That is all I can think of at the moment. I did not add any creatures because this isnt really a main focus, for me atleast, we need the environment first. Any sort of architecture or living quarters can
perhaps be discussed later when the environment is closer to complete as well.

I think for the time being our attention should be on the environment and nothing else.

Though the references are really nice, I don't think this all can be done in reasonable time. At first you need really good textures of foilage, single leaves, moss, ivy and so on. Next you have to cut out those structures manually to get a clean alpha texture. Then you will have to build single custom meshes to carry those textures as billboards. You have to test and tweak them until they look right ingame. Not even mentioning the tree meshes at all.

Why not take good ressorces and give them a personal touch. We could make a small tree tile set, which would give us several possibilities to vary. We can add custom plants nonetheless. My fear is, that this project will tire, when we spend too much time on details, instead of getting a solid basis done first. I didn't plan to make this a 3 years project. :(

The foliage should absolutely not be billboards. Alot of the foliage can use the same models or models that are slightly altered. Extracting the images is probably the most time consuming part but isn't that much work really. As for tweaking and such, all that really needs doing is getting the size correct. Once you have the size of one object correct then you use that to correctly size anything else.

Again I am going to mention cgtextures.com, seriously if you haven't, go look there. They have tons of plant images with single leaves and easily editable images of leaves and that sort of stuff.

We can create plenty of plants in a couple of weeks even if we only spend a few hours each day. Not everything needs to be animated or have fancy glow maps or other effects.

Love the list =) That's a beginning of something solid to work towards.

Today I saw pretty much a one man effort doing a tremendous thing that already looks very much like Pandora(along with particles and other really cool stuff), or the other way around. And TBH it's simply a matter of dedication. I said before I don't really care, I want to do some stuff, and I'll do what I feel like.

Can't say that list is particularly big. Being a base/speed modeller I can see most of the modelling/uvmapping of many of the above mentioned references only taking an hour or so, texturing would take longer because I'm generally bad at it. Another thing that would take long is tweaking it all to MW's desires.

Only thing I'm saying is that if things started to move a long with some dedicated workers (not me that is). I think it would do fine! One thing that is needed is a leader or some people who make the decisions, even if it's small this project needs somebody who will keep it all together. I have an affinity to get people on board my projects to help me but usually I'm not that good a leader because I lack the time and I'm bad with the necessary management skills needed, so if I didn't make that clear, count me out :P

The reason I write is because I care about the project. I would love to see it done so I'm supporting the little I can.

Cheers! And good luck.

EDIT: A typical mw character is 128Units tall. This makes it easy to scale things if you just put down a box that is 128 units tall.

Well the list might look longer due to the fact that i added reference images, however it is only 9 items although the foliage section could be counted as several.

Anyway.....

Large trees, We probably really only need about 4 or 5 unique models.

Small/Medium, probably about the same amount as large trees.

Tree Stumps, we could probably get away with 3 or so

Rocks, I am thinking we might need a few in a few different styles, but rocks are relatively easy to make.

Rack Stairway, can possibly be made up with rocks created in the rocks section, the way in which i would make the stone stairs would make it quite module which means we would only need a possibly a couple sets

Foliage, for basic plants we could probably get away with perhaps 10 variations, the more unique types of plants probably about the same amount (10)

Moss and vine type stuff, this would only require maybe 3 variations of hanging moss and maybe a few for a more viney type look.

EDIT: Wanted to note that we can always add more junk later if wee think it is necessary or wanted.

Ok, I will start working on that old trees then. Making some single tiles like tree-bridges, hollowed out roots, view posts and stuff like that. Can somebody else take care for the foilage, cause I'm no expert at this. I'm thinking of thick less seethrough clusters of leaves, that are single objects and can be placed and scaled after free imagination along the tree tops.

PS: I also think a leader or at least someone who coordinates the work would be a practical thing. As I myself am not a patient and diplomatic person, I'd suggest to vote for someone else though!!! :)

Meanwhile...I just made some new tree mesh, which will be part of a small tileset and I want to show you what I'm planning to do with it:

Normally trees just stand around look nice and cost a lot of fps!!! I want to change that for this project and make our trees multi-functional, in order to become a real playground for the player. In the picture you see a simple tree with some rootwork, which has grown right around a couple of rocks. Whole thing took me about an hour. This simple mesh has various possibilities for the player to explore:

Well, I'll finish up that original list of scripts (got most of them done at this point, with just little things to tweak depending on what they're applied to and all), and any other things can be posted.

Who should I send scripts to? I'm thinking the world-builder(s), since they can apply it to the objects. That or you can send the finished ESP to me and I'll add the scripts. Or I can add the scripts to objects and send that to... I don't even know. How will that be handled (merging)?
Also, what kind of prefix will be used for this? All the scripts have pandora_ at the moment.

Diplomacy is highly overrated. You need someone that knows how to use a whip. :biglaugh:

If there's gonna be whips... :hubbahubba:

Do you want script text or compiled/ingame scripts?
I can put them in an ESP (need to, just to make sure there aren't any bugs I haven't caught yet), or I can send you the raw texts so you can compile them yourself. I don't know which is easier (if either).

Oh, well you can make a esp then I'd say!!! I'll just need to upload them with my esp then!!! ;)

You can name the scripts with your shortform infront like pk_script_01

As I already said, I wouldn't like to have the same models we use for this unique mod standing around in Vvardenfall!!! But maybe I'll make some small tileset one day for community usage or even better I show you guys how to model it with blender yourself!!! ;)

Hello everybody. :)

I have decided to go ahead and DL some tropical leaf textures from CGtextures and I have extracted them and saved them into PSD's. I have uploaded them to 4shared however I will not be posting a publicly accessible link due to the terms of use restrictions. CGtextures is a free to use website however it is not permissible to redistribute unedited versions of their images.

If you wish to use the extracted files send me a note and I will send over a link in confidence that you will use them as intended.

I did this because extracting images can be a very tedious process especially for people who don't have a tablet.

There are 19 files (19 different leaves) in the set. Here is a collage of all of the leaves I have extracted: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Trop_Leaf_collage.jpg

Saw the movie today. The extremely unsubtle (like bash you over the head with a club unsubtle) political message annoyed me, but the CG was incredible. I left the theater regretting to return to dull, bland, boring real life. :P Can't wait to see how this turns out, and it's looking good so far. :D

Hello again.

This time i come with some junk to show. :o

This is just some sort of ground plant, nothing to fancy I suppose. :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/TropicalPlant01.png

Next up is something that should hopefully help a bit to flesh out the environment.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/Fern01.png

And last but not least, something that should be a dominant feature, the first of the large tree's.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/AnOldFriend/LargeTree01.png

Perhaps the tree doesnt look so large but you dont have anything to compare it with so what do you know? :stare:

Tree is probably quite obviously still a WIP. The textures are also still considered WIP. I have 3 different bark textures that I think might work well and the other textures might get some color changes and junk. Expect a lot of moss and probably some plants and junk growing on the tree... oh and certainly some leaves of course :)

Also, the tree is sitting at 2546 quads at the moment and will probably be a fare bit more by the end, however these trees are meant to be quite large taking up a lot of space so I think the poly count will be good for this particular series of assets. :goodjob:

Critiques are encouraged. :)

@AOF: I like the new stuff, good work!!! ;) If you got some time left, could you make long vines, but with some of the leaves you showcased some posts before. I'd like to have some of them hanging down into the depth from floating rocks, acompanied by some moss. This will emphasize the feeling of depth a lot ingame, because of all that vertical lining!!! :)

I'm currently working on more treestumps and rootwork and lateron some glowmapped mushrooms and smaller plants for decorating issue!!!

PS: Interesting to see that there'll be an Oblivion version too, curious to see what way of design they will go!!! :)

EDIT: Got a small script request again, no need to hurry!!! :)

I just had an idea for a little script based quest. I will make some carnivorous plants, which the player can feed with certain food. First the plant looks crippled and starving (mesh A), if player feeds the plant with item ID_food_01, crippled plant mesh A gets exchanged with a new mesh B which is a bit more colorful and better looking. We can make lets say 2-3 single meshes to visualize progress of recovering. When the last necessary piece of food was given to the plant, mesh will be exchanged last time by an animated version, that opens its bloom plus some animated texture or particle effect or even sound.

Now as return the plant, which is a container, gives some magic seed to the player (healing, strengthen...). After some time plant returns to crippled status again and player will have to collect new food in order to get further seeds in return.

Maybe plant could carry a simple message box too, to make it more obvious what kind of food is needed!!! ;)

What you think?! ;)

Essentially the tree will be its own relatively small ecosystem with plant life growing around and on it. As such I have definite plans for hanging moss and vines so i am sure it wouldn't be to difficult to create separate models from those which are able to be placed independently. :)

I shall see how far along I get today on the tree. :goodjob:
