Wip - Playable Ninja-bunny-race

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2010 1:40 pm

This is an idea I came up a long time ago, when my modeling and animation skills weren't really good enough yet to make it real. I wanted to create a playable Ninja-Bunny race like "Usagi Yojimbo". This will be absolutely not lorefriendly and that's why I love this idea sooo much!!!

Today I made the model for the head and began animating it. I will make custom armor for the bunny, based on better beasts Khajiit body and custom weapons like katanas. Please consider this a a fun-mod, so please no lore discussions this time, I'm totally tired of this!!! :)

I was worried that this was going to be anime/furry-styled, but then I how realistic the rabbit's head looked and all my worries were washed away! This looks fricken hilarious!
Oh, how's progress on the Daedric Minions going btw?

Thx mate, I first have to learn making quests, before I can continue on "Daedric Minions". Modeling the different minions is no problem, I can make a bunch of those heads in one day if I need to!!! :)

Thx mate, I first have to learn making quests, before I can continue on "Daedric Minions".

You mean basic quests? "journal (Quest ID) (Quest Stage)" Simple ^_^

Unless you're talking uber complicated stuff, in which case I'll shush and sit in the corner. :sadvaultboy:

But yeah, those bunny models are awesome. You gonna try a different body? It seems everyone just creates custom heads, and hardly does anything to vanilla body meshes apart from retexturing.

Please make a vampire version so that my dream of having a hoard of vampire bunnies comes true. Also make them really tall and make a long black suit and top hat for them. Also if there is any voice acting give them a british accent.

I like it! Man you have so many WIPs to follow now TDW!

Are the ears going to be animated? It would be nice to see them move about :)

@ RellacFTW: Yes, just simple quests for the beginning!!! I was so concentrated on practicing 3D modelling all the time, that I never really got the chance to learn dialogues and quests. But a befriended modder will give me some lessons this weekend!!! :)

Can't say, if I'll make a new body. Wouldn't be that big problem, but none of the existing clothing and armor would be fitting anymore and most likely there'll be a lot of clipping issues during animation. I had planed to retexture a Khajiit body and give it a new tail.

@guenthar: I won't make single playable vampire-version, but as even a bunny can be bitten by a vampire ingame, I'll have to make a vampire head anyway!!!

@Melchior: I had planned to animate the ears, but I must check how it can be synchronized with the idles. The idle for facial expression is just about 40 frames long IIRC. Enough for mouth opening and eye blinking, but I guess not enough time for a smooth movement of the ears. I also have to decide, wether I'll make the ears a part of the head itself or let it belong to the hair mesh. At the moment I vote for the first option, cause I want the bunny to wear different kinds of hats and helmets, with the ears still visible.

Haha this is hilarious! Awesome work though. I half came in here expecting to see Max from Sam and Max. I would totally play the game as Max.

Here we go, first alpha version of the head animation is done. I took over the same timing like a male Khajiit head, so "talk" and "blink" animation of bunny as NPC should be fine. I will make further idles for the ears for "running", "jumping" and sneaking... :)

Here's a small video from inside Blender. I placed a Khajiit head next to the bunny head for comparison!!! The animation still needs some fine tweaking, but as soon as I have textured the head, I'll first go for some ingame testing.

Animated model with base texture, have to customize it now in photoshop. Originally I planned to make this a ninja bunny, but as I took a closer look at it in nifskope and stared into that eyes I just thought to myself:

"OMG, you guy look sooo damn stupid, sure you can handle a katana or similar??? Maybe I should better give him a particle emitting pipe in his mouth, dress him in a pyjama and hand him some kinda bunny-newspaper, what you think?!

I think ninja-ness wold still suit the randomness of this character. Just because he is a ninja, it doesn't mean he has to be good at it!!!

-clip-

I could see giving him a whole carrot with the greens dangling out instead of a pipe.

Ninja pajamas! And I'm sure a ninja would know how to turn a newspaper into a weapon of death... :toughninja:

I have overworked the mouth region agin and lifted the teeth a bit up, so that you can't see that much of the gum as Dragon32 suggested and it does look much more decent now. !!! :) I will release two different versions of the head, one for use as NPC, with complete mouth animation for talking idle and a second one for the playable race itself with a smoother animation of the mouth and some sniffing movement of the nose.

I always disliked when my game character did that mouth movement like a fish. I can see no need in having that kinda animation for the player anyway!!!
