WIPz] Animated Morrowind

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:30 pm

The Drummer is great - can you get him to do 2 drums - in the entertainers esp if you can drum up to 3 at once the crowd goes wild :)

Enjoyed the tavern eating animation - though wonder if you could slow down the eating bit he starts by taking two big bits and I'm not sure he had enough time to swallow - just looked a little fast that's all - I have a tavern mod I'm working on and would really like to end up using this one - is it possible to get another where the sitting person has a goblet in their hand or a fork and talking to their companion?

The smith was great I really grinned when i saw him wipe his brow :)

Fishing was smooth - can it come with a non-whistling version?

The broom lady made a clean sweep - I noticed you used a message box for her dialogue which was actually really cool - can you still talk normal dialogue with her though?

You asked about other animation ideas:

In the tavern having the barkeeper or a wench wipe the tables or bar maybe clean a glass

A Guard wiping his sword down (it's always raining and I imagine they need to keep their baldes from rusting or likely they just killed someone for resisting arrest)

Having some shoppers would be good - people who are picking things up and examining them - shops always feel so lifeless to me in the game

Hope you do a release soon :)

Are you going to make a conventional praying animation ? I don't know if I'll be able to play Morrowind without this mod upon it's release.

I got an idea. How about the farmers? It would be better to see them doing something that just standing there watching. Also if you are going to animate them, ( you don't need to if you don't want it ) don't forget those slaves in some plantations.

Farmers would definately be top of my list. Raking the mud, picking berries into a basket, planting seeds etc. The dreamer animations are terrifying, great job!

Yep, /signed! Farmers would be great, you could have a whole set of animations for them, as you describe it. And the dreamer animation is very cool, I second that too.

Slave Animations would be nice to. you could do a skooma addict. I would imagine it as someone Hunched over abit as if trying to hide somthing, and looking around nervously and when you walk up he says "Who are you!? What do you want? Its My Skooma!" or somthing in a crazed tone/voice.

How about a bunch of people sitting around a campfire, cooking fish and or some other things. Somebody warming his hands etc. There are lots of camps around Vvardenfell but not anyone really camping. 'course they would attack you soon thereafter but it add lots I think.

Also for people in quests waiting for others or looking for others, maybe they could be given something?

Lol, that naked Nord that is completely paralyzed might need something.

Not really an animation thing, but it'd be kind of cool if you set an Ashlander to follow around a Guar in sneak mode with his bow out so it looks like he's stalking his prey.

I am sure AA will make a RELz thread when the animations are ready (so the short answer is no :) ).

Alright still looks great i can see that you are getting better with each ones. I would reccomend going back to a few of the ones that look like pupets. I love the blacksmith the most.

YES, just a sitting on the ground animation will fit better in outdoor cell than indoor cell.

Really, it would be so useful if somebody could make some decent looking sitting pants, similar to the regulars but more realistic in looks. One with the legs crossed, one with them spread apart, and one with them cross-legged for sitting on the ground would be terrific.

I forgot where I heard it, but I think somebody said that there was a sitting animation somewhere that the NPC would proceed to do normal idle movements with the upper body while seating, which I personally think would be just what is needed. I think the only problem was the NPC would only stay seated after a certain period of time.

Yep, that was me. The sit anims are made by Qarl. The problem was twofold - a, you need to make a chair with no collision (which isnt so hard to do), but b, make the sit animation only play once, then let the idles loop themselves randomly. Unfortunately, I never got the scripting side of b down to make it work properly. Im sure someone who knows the aiwander command better could make it work though.

I would like to discuss one related general problem that I am facing with such animations (animated poses). Long time ago I have made several sitting animations for released and not released mods (removed collision from sit meshes, probably, repositioning of the "Bounding box"/root bone could be a better solution):

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/AxelIP/ScreenShot306.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/AxelIP/ScreenShot308.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/AxelIP/ScreenShot120.jpg

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/AxelIP/ScreenShot115.jpg

Unfortunately, I have failed to find a good solution for transition animations.

The theory how they should work in the game can be found here (check explanations for Loop Start/Stop):

http://www.preik.net/morrowind/animationgroups.html

Hence, "IdleX: Start" (first frame of the original "Idle" standing pose for the smooth transitions with other NPC animation sequences), then transition itself (sitting down on e.g. chair); "IdleX: Loop Start" (first frame of the sitting loop, e.g. drinking tea); "IdleX: Loop Stop" (last frame of the sitting loop that in a simplified looping version is identical to the first frame of the loop); then transition (standing up); and finaly "IdleX: Stop" (last frame is also the first frame of "Idle" standing pose).

However, this does not work with either "AIWonder" scripting function or via settings of AIWander package in the TESCS: in the game animation is circled not within a loop (IdleX: Loop Start/Stop), but performs complete IdleX: Start/Stop sequence (NPC always jumps up).

So, I see two compromise solutions: 1. very long "IdleX: Loop Start/Stop" sequence, not just one circle (this could be OK for certain short animations e.g. picking something from the ground); 2. no transitions (without first frame of the "Idle", etc.), this can be OK in case there is no interactions with particular NPC (e.g. he is simply sitting somewhere in the background or you can hide transitions somehow, e.g. my sitting Witch-Queen disappears like BM werewolf).

Probably, there are better solutions, I am not an expert scripter.
Please, share your ideas.

added to my list of aniamtions :)
There are a lot of slaves and farmer around, and it would be nice to have them doing something

I intend to do more animations for taverns.

Fishing was smooth - can it come with a non-whistling version?

when I'll release them, each Npc will be scripted. The fishman will whistle only sometimes and will not stay there all day. Sometimes you may find him walking around

The broom lady made a clean sweep - I noticed you used a message box for her dialogue which was actually really cool - can you still talk normal dialogue with her though?

They are normal Npcs, just with an animation file added to them Consider them like the dancing girls of Suran. (The message box is an option of Morrowind.)

You asked about other animation ideas:

In the tavern having the barkeeper or a wench wipe the tables or bar maybe clean a glass

That is feasable

the command LoopGroup, loops the animations the times you specified.... however, it doesn't end how it should but at the end of the last LoopStop, the animations stops immediatly and comes back to Idle.

Say we work on the praying animation of the Ash Ghoul ( Idle4 )and we use in a script the command

LoopGroup Idle4, 10

The idle4 will start, will execute 10 times the LoopStart/LoopStop, but suddenly, at the end of the 10? LoopStop, the Ash Ghoul will stand up, returning to his Idle.

except of it, the solutions are what you said, or longer animations or aniamtions without transiction.

video 10: Lette has Swamp Fever

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I35a7_1XHhI

Lette is a female Redguard who suffers the Swamp Fever. You, as member of the Temple, are sent to cure her, but she didn't look ill, so I made a short easy animation and sound for her.
I scripted her so that she will play this animation often (60%) until she gets cured

Simple, yet cool :3 Some caughing(spelled right?..) NPC near temples and imperial altars could brighten up some scenes - after all, there are blight storms on Morrowind, many people would have pretty similar deseases.

As I have mentioned LoopGroup and PlayGroup functions for NPCs are not working properly for me (upper body is "paralyzed"). Only AIWonder works. This is a well-known and badly understood bug that is observed in some MW installations (+T and/or BM).

The reading animations are pretty damn good, they just adds a lot of atmosphere.

Some suggestions / helpful criticism,

Is it possible to Granny Varis stop, do cleaning animation for three seconds, move a little, do cleaning animation for three seconds, move ... etc? That might help.

Is the whistling constant? (That might get annoying)

Video 08 - sounds might be over the top. Especially for that race.

If I might suggest, you know the crazy woman that you meet in the Main Quest? She hears voices or something like that, I forgot. But, maybe, making her look crazy would be nice(twitching?). She also has a naked khajiit next to her, it was always weird to see someone naked not look ashamed (covering, looking down on the floor maybe?).

Although, what would be awesome (more than the above suggestion), would be slave working animations. Although they would have to stop working if the player character choses to free them.

Anyway, WANT.
