(WIPZ/BETA) Minstrels of Cyrodiil (WIPZ/BETA)

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:30 pm

Bump to just keep alive on forum..

Possibly in the future I will finish working on this or intergrating them into Travellers themselves..But I am busy with other projects at this time.

But certainly by now you have installed a multi core processor in yourself as well as your computer.

If this was only true, I have multi core processor, but not the multicore brain to work on everything at once..LOL..

like I said I will finish this up one of these days..

I don't know if this has already been discussed, but I think it would be a great idea for you and Duke Patrick to collaborate. Check this mod out: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17016. I have not personally tried it, but it looks awesome. However I believe he only has the option to sing one song. I thought it would be great if you could also play an instrument, or dance, etc...

what say you?

Wow how did I miss this. I am glad someone bumped the thread!

@Corepc: Have you ever thought of incorporating some of this into Tamriel Travelers? It would make the bards a little more bard-y I think. :)

I have had that plan for a very long time to do it, but just never have sat down to do it and intergrate into Travellers to see how it would work..

On the surface it would not be the hard,

but, underneath, it is whole different story with how the idle animation work, and having them in right order, etc..

plus getting the music playing script to work, with an already exisiting script that is very picky about things..etc..

I don't know what kind of music you guys are looking for but your more than welcome to use my acoustic stuff. You can have a listen at www.myspace.com/borderlinechaos. Ignore the one where I sing (Horribly) which is called Fall For Me. They are all original works by me, Rain and Missed Opportunities are both acoustic only (no vocals).

Edit: If you don't like those songs I'd be happy to do some other guitar stuff for the mod...maybe something a little more tavern...esque. I've been noodling with some kind of celtic sounding stuff if that's what your more interested in. Although if you ask me (Which I know you aren't :P) I think a couple random choices for songs some really upbeat dancing songs and some kind of moody atmospheric songs could bring a little diversity. I don't really see people dancing and stuff at the Inn of Ill Omen :P.

I should clarify, by dancing music I mean upbeat acoustic stuff, like you might hear in a irish bar. Minus the fiddles....(I don't have a fiddle). Not like, dance beats like techno :D. I really only put acoustic music on that webpage these days...and techno or pop would just ruin the atmoshphere in Oblivion :P. (I play metal too but I don't think that would mesh well either)

Been testing the beta and have seen no bug so far, except the fact that from time to time, the minstrels quit their playing lute animation and keep walking in the streets (and the music is still playing), but after talking to them, they resume playing again.

BTW, the name Bart Bardus made me laugh, quite appropriate for a bard...

Thank you so much for this mod! Even if it's far from being finished, I'm already loving it.

If I could give a few ideas for the future:
- travelling bards and dancers going from an inn to an other (well upper class inn) and maybe a permanent band in the most important inn/hostels, like the tiber septim hotel.
- creation of a theatre (I'm dreaming...), maybe some noble in the IC or elsewhere would want to be a protector of artists.
- possibility to hire a bard that would play where you tell him to play (for instance, like in the dinner room of my castle). Maybe you could create a sort of mark that the player could place where he wants?
- Jugglers with the bards etc...

Thank you for the hard work!

Great work! I am glad someone has started this.

I was thinking of making Minstrel clothes and intruments, maybe some troubadour, jester type things as well.

I am a Maya modellor and animator. Is there anything I can do to help?

Thanks for replying. I feel better knowing it hasn't disappeared forever. I had some interest in working on a mod like this, then I found it had already been done. heh. Imagine that. :P

Awesome to hear that it's not dead. I had been waiting for an update to this mod for a while but had just about given up hope. I always thought live music was something sorely missing from the Taverns of Cyrodiil.

I was working on a mod like this for Morrowind many moons ago. I had the scripting basics figured out, but due to a lack of NPC animations for playing a lute or mandolin I couldn't make it the way I wanted to and kinda gave up on the concept. The best I ever saw was one that just used some animated static 'minstrels' to play songs, so I just modified the scripts for that one to fix a few bugs and to play a randomized song list, and allow the player to make song requests etc. and just used that in my (MW) game. I looked around for a mod like this for Oblivion and it looked like a couple including this one were in the works. Sadly, none have ever been finished yet.

Good luck with finishing this!
