{WIPZ} Fort Sumwhyre

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 8:52 pm

I've been hinting at this for months now, and even though I wasn't planning on starting a project thread until after I completed three things (house mod, models for another person, small dungeon crawl/ armour and weapons mod) I decided that it was time to make this public.

What it is-
a trading fort with many types of things for sale
a small city with NPCs that will offer services
possibly a few small quests

Where is it-
>see below<

What does it have up for sale-
weapons (several have off-hand/shield counterparts):
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/1hlongblade1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/2hlongblade1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/blunt1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/shorblade1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/spears1.jpg
clothing:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/dresses1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/sweaters1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/shirt2.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/shirt1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/misc-clothesarmour1.jpg (black shirts in centre are actually light armour)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/femaleshirts3.jpg (also have male versions)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/femaleshirts2.jpg (also have male versions)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/femaleshirts1.jpg (also have male versions)
miscellaneous:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/delfandimpbusts.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/mask1.jpg (no textures so far)
lanterns:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/lanterns1.jpg

How much progress is done-
Not much really, I'm still in the planning stages
Note: some of the weapons and miscellaneous items that I've made are based on Bethesda's meshes

What do I need-
first and foremost: feedback and ideas
I have several more weapons that I'm planning on making, but need ideas for armour, clothes, and other items

I also want to know about location, I made an island but it will probably conflict with other mods so should I make an ITALE (interior that acts like exterior) instead?

I'll probably eventually need help with scripting, dialogue, and quest making, as well as input on setting values (health, AR, cost, et cetera).

I will be more than happy to take on general help and anyone who wants to join in (NPCs, items for sale, et cetera).

When will this be done-
 Right now I have no idea.........

Why has no one else commented on this?

I think this is an awesome idea! I love the stuff you have so far, especially the dwarven/daedric weapons :)

What exactly are you planning for a theme? Maybe I could give you ideas if I knew what the theme was. Because right now it looks like you have some of everything, which is great!!

Keep up the good work! :goodjob:

This sounds great, swrdphantom  Creating a whole new city for your wares is excellent, a few quests would be the icing on the cake.

As to location, have you seen http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6000? It should help you in picking a location.

So far... there is no theme. For the most part I'm trying to go for realism as far as the weapons are concerned (some are based on weapons that I own), but I wouldn't have too much trouble doing something fanciful (like the forked spear). Speaking of which I need more ideas for spears.

Thanks, I'll use this MMGUM and see if I'm safe... otherwise I'll have to replan. Not that it'll be that hard to change plans. ;)

OK, the area that I was going to use is occupied by several well known mods, so I'm going to forget that location. I'll try to use that cell to NIF converter and see what I can come up with and use an ITALE (interior that acts like exterior).

Got a few more things to show-

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/curvedsword.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/specialspear.jpg (I was thinking about making a sword and axe to match)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/shortspear.jpg (just made, I don't know wether to make it a sword or try to make it fit the spear grip size)

When I first kinda started on this, I worked on a retex of the common interior tileset, but haven't finished it yet.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/room_1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/room_2.jpg
I am going to redo the wood texture, but I'm not sure about the baseboard and ceiling.

I agree with Alaisiagae! Very creative stuff here. It's cool that you are going to retex the common tileset, very good work!

Wow, some good stuff there.
I like the ITALE idea. It will reduce so many conflicts. Have you thought about where you going to place the entrance?

I haven't gotten much more done yet, but here's a slight update-

I started work on an 'Imperial' (Roman) style sewer system for this that I'll also release as a seperate resource.
Pics:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/imp_sewer1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/imp_sewer2.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/imp_sewer4.jpg
I don't have a pic of the end-cap, corner, and sloped pieces yet, and they all still need quite a bit of work.

New weapon:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/khop_1.jpg (I know that there have already been a few others made, but I wanted to make one anyways... need to adjust scale somewhat)

I think that I'm going to boat near Khuul or Ald Velothi that'll have a boatman for travelling to the 'island'.

This isn't an 'update' as much as a question on something that I've came up with-

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/new_weapons_1.jpg

I came across a sketch of a short thrusting spear (actually, several of the swords that I've made/will make are based on sketches from a person that I've found the pictures of while image searching for ideas), then thought that the general shape would look good as a dagger, then the staff idea came to me later. I think that I'll make a shield version of the dagger as well... The textures aren't 'finished' yet either.... :hehe:

The question,.... what should I call this set, and should I try any other weapon options?

They look like Imperial style weapons, and the blue orb within the golden crest appears almost like an eye...how about "The eye of Akatosh".....also, those lanterns and busts have me drooling, are those busts going to be movable?

Or perhaps Sight of the Septims, something along those lines.....idk, I'm pretty horrible at coming up with name ideas for anything...I use my own name for my current character in morrowind.... :lmao:

*bump*

Any new ideas for your Fort Sumwhyre? Will you let modders use the resources in it? Some of those weapon models are really cool, I could see them making a nice replacer or even addition to an existing weapons set. :lightbulb:

For right now, animations are a little bit outside of my talents. That's an interesting idea though.....

 I guess that I'll allow usage on a requested basis, if someone wants to use something (and asks like they should :stare: ) I'll most likely let them.

A few new things to show-

And now a teaser of the most complicated thing that I've ever tried to make :bonk: -

The katana I bought at a Ren Faire, and supposedly it's 'combat ready', but I doubt it because for the claim of being carbon steel it doesn't rust like my real (and much more expensive) swords. The naginata is handmade in China, but it's still a mass produced item.
I know of a company that sells handforged blades (including katana blades, no European longswords though) that you can use to make your own knives or swords and I had thought about getting one and seeing what I could come up with.....

You think so?

All of the parts (except for the floating one) was made from circles that I reshaped and sometimes added more vertices to (by extruding) until I got things to look the way that I wanted them to. I used a background image of the weapon that I'm trying to make (apparently it's from WOW) so I had an idea of where everything was.
The unattached part shows that I missed something. :meh:

Anyways, the previous pic didn't show all of the detail, http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/wilddaggerattemptb.jpg

A looong time to get where I was, and I haven't done much work on it lately, mapping it's going to be a real nightmare. :banghead:

Anyways, a few things to add-

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/moreweapons.jpg (spear made from Bethesda's meshes, and most likely will remain as-is texture wise)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/helms.jpg (made from Bethesda's meshes, but I'll eventually retex them)

The following pictures were originally going to be a seperate mod, but I decided to put it in with this mod instead-

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/crusaderarmour.jpg (currently set up as heavy armour, and the greaves are a 'still in progress/undecided' thing)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/crusaderhelm.jpg (still trying to get it sized right for the races, Bethesda's heads and male Nord heads clip terribly)

 Forgot something, http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/ebonyswords.jpg (middle is original, bottom is my mesh with my textures, and top is my mesh with original textures... kinda)

Lately I've been trying to finish island that I'll convert into a .nif so that I can use it in an interior... although I may have to use multiple interior cells for the outside....

Anyways-

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre1.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre5.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre6.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre8.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre2.jpg (Imperial fort walls are just for reference)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre4.jpg (not sure what I'm going to do with it)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre9.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre3.jpg (I'll put a house with someone who'll have a quest :ninja:)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/Sumwhyre7.jpg (I'll put another house with an occupent, probably won't have a quest though)

I need to do a few more tweaks, including making it easier to get to the top of the mountain without using levetation. :hehe: Then I'll do the cell-to-nif conversion and see how everything works in an interior cell.
There's supposed to be a way to make multiple interior cells flow from one cell to another similar to how the exterior cells do it, but I think it requires a complex script....

That's all for now.

More ideas than productivity.... :banghead:

Anyways, I had an idea last night for a different style of houses to be used in the docks area rather than the usual shacks like I had originally planned.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/dockhouses1.jpg

My plan is to have these houses packed together tightly, literally stacked on top of each other in some places. They'll be like flats for dock workers and sailors (when in dock), and probably have a few surprises. I have plans for a few variations, steps to the upper flats, and shutters (open and closed versions) for the windows. These are currently a rough draft, the scale is about right, I just need to clean up some of the mapping and textures, adjust doorways (or make my own doors..), finalise the design, 'rough' a few things up, and add collision..... then I'll have to redo the docks area again for these. :P

Many, many ideas in my head, not much progress though......

Just some input:
Constructive criticism.

Some of the weapons look great! (The daedric/dwarven inspired ones) but the others, while being good models, don't really match the rest of Morrowind.
The texture's are too soft and bright.
Just from the screenies, they appear to be more like foam swords rather than something you'd hack a cliff racer to bits with. Sharpen the textures and make them darker.

Good luck on your mod! Looks pretty good.
