WIPz more realistic environment, video included

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 5:17 am

I decided to take my current project to the next level recently, as it started simply as an addon to 'Ultimate Galleon' by MadMax. Now I'm creating a landmass west of morrowind where I can test my other ideas, such as the ones you'll see in the following video. If you watch the video, make sure you read the description. I'll post it below the embedded video as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tujmtMrGwcY

"This is a test of a few weather effects I'm working on. Notice in the beginning, it's night time outside, and it's dark in the house I enter when I turn off the lights. Then when I sleep, sunlight ... "

So what do you all think? I know there is a lot to work around if I ever decided to make these effects an addition to the landmass of morrowind, but I'm just wondering if it would be even worth it to try.

That's pretty awesome, it definitely would make interiors feel more connected to the outside world.

Any reason why it's in this forum though?

You posted a 1:23 video which consists of 1:22 of a solid black screen with a disembodied torch light and a few flashes of purplish things that resembled tombstones. At the end there was about a 1 second flash of a visable scene with a city and ship. Couldn't really tell much of anything from the 1 second of viewable image. When making video always start them during the games daylight hours. For interiors it's a good idea to use a constant effect night eyes. The only time it's appropriate to post night shots would be to show off lighting effects. But that requires there to be lights to have an effect.

It is a video about lighting effects, so it's meant to be dark.
And I could see it fine, no 'solid black screen', so either you're just being overly harsh, or you need to turn up the brightness on your monitor. You seem to make comments like this on several videos and screenshots which not many other people have problems with, so maybe you do need to turn up the brightness on your monitor. I'm not trying to be rude, it's just that the video looks fine to me and it seems like your comment was a little over the top.

OT: the lighting coming from the window looks very natural, though shouldn't this be in the morrowind mods forum? If you're wondering if it would be worth it trying to add this to morrowind, then I would say that although it would be a great mod, you should only do it if you're are prepared to put a lot of work into it, and realise it'll probably take a lot of time away from your other project.

It looks alright if you watch it in high quality and fullscreen.

EDIT: Oh and yeah you should see about getting this moved to the mods forum.

Well you're right turning the brightness and contrast up to max sot that all the blacks look grey and the light colors all blend into a uniform white does make the video a tad more viewable. The lightening flashes are a very good effect. But having seen it I can't stand to leave my monitor adjusted like this.

Great work! The only thing that's sort of bugging me is that the interior lighting flashes are blue, they should be a more white colour.

Other than that, I'm really stunned, I'd love to see this ingame.

Woah.

Though I have to agree with SWG on lightning color, but it looks brilliant.

Wonderful. Can't wait for this to be available. Now all those night-time indoor assassination attempts by the Dark Brotherhood and the one by House Dagoth might actually be frightening.

 Fantastic zich! This takes interior lighting mods to the next level - most definitely worth doing! :cookie:

Wow thanks for the positive comments. So I guess this means I'll get right to work making this thing into a plugin, BUT... before I make this thing, I want to make sure I have all weather possibilities covered. Rain and thunderstorms are done. I could make wind sounds for when there's a blight/ash storm.. Any other weather I'm forgetting about?

Also in order to make the fireplaces interactable, I would have to change out every fireplace and log in the game, as well as every chimney smoke. Wouldn't this be considered a messy plugin? Cuz people with game saves might experience double fireplaces?
