Wish List: Throwable Weapons

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 10:16 pm

So, The most recent game that's been introduced lately is "Dead Island." Say what you will about it, but it has quite a few interesting gimmicks that I'd be interested in seeing in an Elder Scrolls game.

The ability to 'throw' your weapon at an enemy. I know I'm going to hear some arguments that it would be a useless gimmick, and to some degree- you're right. But in the same degree- you could say that there are many useless gimmicks in Skyrim. But we welcome them.

It would be a great perk for Dual wielders, being that you would still atleast have one extra weapon in your hand. It also creates more diverse combat options when taking out enemies, other than your typical 'hack-and-slash' actions that take place.

So, lemme hear it- your thoughts?

Edit: By throwing weapons- I mean the ability to throw your axe, sword, mace, dagger, etc.

i would love to have throwing weapons (throwing knives/hatchets, kunai, throwing stars, darts) in skyrim but i highly doubt any weapon will have the option of being thrown.

what would be a nice set up though would be to have the throwing weapons (knives and such) stackable like arrows. you could then have a main weapon in one hand and the throwing weapon in the other. normally hitting the trigger assigned to the throwing weapon would make you do atacks with it like slashing and hacking. but holding to trigger as to preform a power attack would make you throw it. after thrown the next one (remember i said if they were stackable) would be equipped to that hand. the thrown weapon should also be retrievable like arrows.

Throwing weapons, like axes and knives/daggers, would be really nice. I doubt it would happen but, if you're on the PC, I'm sure some modders will make a nice throwing weapon mod package.

Well, I just don't mean weapons that are ONLY meant for throwing. I'm talking about the sword or axe you hold in your hand[s] to do melee combat.

I agree. That'd be such a satisfying feeling.

As the enemy turns and runs, you let loose your longsword and watch it impale them in the back.

SHURIKENS LIKE MORROWIND

Owait, I would love to tomahawk a bandit in the face with a claymore from 100 yards away

Throwing one handed weapons is cool too...

I think it'd be awesome if there was just a button to throw whatever you had in your hand at the time. Possibly with different animations for 3rd person, but in first person even throwing axes or swords wouldn't be hard to do(I don't think). And the AI could respond to it quickly. It'd be sorta like a shield bash. It's not something to use at every possible moment(the AI would learn to counter you if you used it all the time), but can be devastating if times right. Then that would also open the opportunity to do stuff like, oh I dunno, throw tomatoes as people. Think of the possibilities! You could be in the Dark Brotherhood sent on a contract to kill an actor during his performance. Start booing and then throw the first tomato at him, then the crowd joins in and you use this to your advantage to take him out. How cool would that be?

Throwing your shield like a boomerang could be useful. Shuriken or darts could work as well!

while it would be cool i guess ill be the one to say that would not be a good idea in a real fight... but hay this is a game in a fantasy world so what ever floats your boat... still would like to have my idea though :hubbahubba:

Exactly.

Or say you're taking on two bandits at once, one's closer than the other and you're dual-wielding.
You throw the weapon in your left hand at the one furthest away, having it drive right into his chest
Then you melee combat the closest one.

I'd love to be able to throw my weapon! The bash attack for one-handed weapons should be replaced with this feature!

OT : Throwing weapons would be epic, I would throw my sword at a dragon and miss :D
I approve though.

It is too late in development if it hasn't been implemented yet. Would be interesting, but you shouldn't be able to throw regular weapons. (Longsword, Claymore)

lol, and this brings a good point to the table:

Players who have a weapon + shield have the 'shield-bash' ability.

Dual-Wielders should be able to throw their secondary hand weapon at a nearby enemy for an instant kill or atleast a critical hit.

I'd definitely welcome the ability. It would fit my stealth character well. I'd carry some extra daggers as a bow alternative. Maybe throwing enchanted weapons could produce interesting results. Throw a Silver Dagger of Fire and the fire damage would proc, Fireball substitute for non mages.

5 years and bethesda has not produced anything with regards to new gameplay methods (READ WAYS TO PLAY AND O COMBAT) for Oblivion, Or even Fallout 3. the gameplay is set in stone me thinks, I feel your best bet are modders which will take some time...the first throwable weapon mod was around 3 years into Oblivion and the only real combat enhancement mods came around 4-5th year namely Spookyfx's mods, Hex offs and Deadly reflex.
