Wish list: Voice slider

Post » Sat Sep 24, 2011 3:48 am

So, watching the 3rd gameplay video, I noticed at the very end our hero Shouts "Dovahkiin!" as he absorbs the dragon's soul.
I'm not gonna argue or complain about it being in the game, I've been able to roll with the punches so far but...

Does anyone else wish they could customize the tone of their character's voice?

Personally, I'd like my character's voice to be just a bit deeper. More natural for a large Nord warrior.

I want to sound like Michael Jackson, and anything less than that ability shall break imurshun!11!!

But in all seriousness a voice slider would be cool, although I doubt we will get one.

I think Pete tweeted about the voice in the game was just a placeholder, and that him screaming "Dovahkiin" was scripted into the game and not likely going to happen.

But seeing as how the most you'll hear out of your character is grunts and occassional words being shouted in Dovah... I could live without a voice slider. But to each his/her own. ^_^

Your suggestion reminds me of The Sims' voice slider. Kind of like that?

Not too sure. I haven't played too much of The Sims.

But basically the slider would control the tone from: Countertenor/Tenor/Baritone/Brass

I don't think my character should talk beyond the dragon shouts. I like it that way.

All the same- would you want your character to squeak the dragon shouts or roar those shouts?

Not saying that either option would be lesser than the other.

Actually Bethesda's policy is to never give the character a voice. Technically they broke it with this 'shout' mechanic

That's pretty much what it did. The slider's spectrum actually went in the direction of your list.

The way I see it: we're gonna hear our voices via dragon shout, he would be able to customize what we hear.

Seems terribly complicated, how would you be able to shift the pitch of a sound file or a set of sound files while in game?I don't think Skyrim comes shipped with an in-game version of Audacity. The only way I can think of that this would work is if you had separate files for each different pitch and voice, and you'd basically be doubling or tripling the size of the player's voice files, which would take up a lot of unnecessary space.

I'm curious about how certain races are gonna sound a la Dovahkiin shouts.

Mainly female PC's i.e., Bosmers, Altmers, etc ...

They literally have hundreds of voices in skyrim for NPCs. I'm sure giving 10 more customizable options wouldn't hurt.

I was very worried when I heard it too! But like a few posts above me says, Pete confirmed that the voice is just a place holder and they sound "Much better in game" So no worries

But I'm saying, what if someone wanted a tenor voice for their elf or a baritone/brass voice for their Orc/Nord/Redguard?

I'm okay with the fact that there won't be a voice slider in the game. Not complaining that there won't be... but it's still on the wish list.

Thx for reminding me. Every race, even female, gets to shout. I wonder how they sound.
