I wish there was more hardcoe leveling in skyrim.. Who will

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 2:09 pm

and you are missing the point. with level scaling in most cases you did get stronger but it actually became more difficult to survive. how does that make sense? i'm stronger but now i can't survive? it's backwards. as you level up and become stronger it should become easier to survive.

... and then you will have people complaining of how ridiculous and game-breaking is to be invincible towards the end, as the game gets easier and easier.

Whats the reason with leveling up if you dont become stronger and stronger? Thats why we level! To become stronger then the enemy!

I'm sorry, but that's just dumb. The difficulty of playing is NOT a measurement of progression. Ideally, the player should find new challenges all the time.

Which Oblivion's system accomplished beautifully. Oh, and what's the point in levelling? Oh, I duno, how about getting better weapons, better armour, becoming more powerful, being allowed to do many more quests, fighting stronger opponents, dominating NPCs etc. etc. ?

Seriously, there are too many morrowind sympathisers in this forum..

You can't do any more quests. All quests can be completed at level one, without difficulty. You get stronger weapons and armour, but the strength gained is negated by the strength gained by the enemies, same for the being more powerful. What is the point in getting max power if you still have to try just as hard to kill mountain lions? I get stronger to BEAT more powerful enemies, not to have the opportunity to fight them.

That has a simple solution. Create enemies in more rewarding areas and certain circumstances that are really hard to kill so that you still have to try hard at max level. Then the purpose of levelling is so you can go and beat them with effort to get that great reward and not be utterly obliviated easily.

damit. They removed item-levelling and toned down the creature level scaling. It is so pathetic, the system worked great in Oblivion!

At all times you had decent opponents (with them becoming more dangerous than you after a while, if you didn't specialize in a few skills) and you had so much freedom! Damn..

Why remove it? come on, were it the annoying morrowind fans who did it? :(

Also will we be able to ride dragons?

Obvious troll is obvious.

Let me just state for the record that my original response was more of me playing devil's advocate based on what I see posted on other threads. Personally, either way would fine with me. So, in the spirit of arguing because I am bored at work with nothing to do the rest of the week :) , the basic premise would be the same: you level up to fight a "tougher" opponent, ok, but how much more "tougher" than the enemy on the previous level is the new enemy going to be in relation to the previous level? Seems like a wash to me.

And I guess, I am a bit biased towards becoming stronger than everyone else as my character levels up, simply because fighting becomes highly repetitive as the game progresses, so mid-game on, I am usually much more interested in the story than the fighting, so the sooner I'm done with fighting to keep on with the story, the better.

Fallout 3 already showed that Bethesda has recognized the problem with Oblivion's level scaling and have tried (succesfully) to come up with a better solution.
Then again, FO3's system is much like MW's system, except the enemies were tougher at higher levels by nature.

It's a shame, really, because there could have been some interesting discussion from this, but since almost every post seems to be questioning the motives of the OP there seems little point in continuing the thread.

Morrowind came out, and when people leveled up they complained that their enemies weren't tough enough.
Oblivion came out, and when people leveled up they complained that their enemies leveled with them.
Fallout 3 came out, and people complained that there was a level cap.
Fallout: New Vegas came out, and people complained that some of the enemies were too tough for them at low levels.

There are pros and cons with every levelling system, but hopefully Skyrim will strike a balance that will please the majority of players.

It would be fun to ride a dragon, but I haven't heard about any dragon-mounts in the game.

Since that about covers any meaningful discussion, and the rest of the thread has descended into insults (calling someone a 'troll' is flaming), I'm going to lock this now.
