I wish there was more hardcoe leveling in skyrim.. Who will

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 9:38 am

damit. They removed item-levelling and toned down the creature level scaling. It is so pathetic, the system worked great in Oblivion! At all times you had decent opponents (with them becoming more dangerous than you after a while, if you didn't specialize in a few skills) and you had so much freedom! Damn..

Why remove it? come on, were it the annoying morrowind fans who did it? :(

Also will we be able to ride dragons?

I actually trust the devs to a great extent. You make the mods. You're obligated now.

I like these improvements they are making. Probably fixed the biggest issue I had with Oblivion as far as gameplay goes.

Easily for me. What's the point in levelling if enemies are just harder to defeat? What's the point in doing quests at low levels if you'll be stuck with a weak weapon and never have a challenge? Then again, it's not like there's a point to levelling anyway, so we'll just take the weak weapon and have it stay weak while we stay weak and the enemies stay weak.

Haha. What? If, IF you are not kidding then... Damn.

If anything Skyrim's leveling is going to be more hardcoe than Oblivion's. Having Oblivion's level scaling would mean you'd be able to kill dragons at level 1.

And it would be harder to kill them after levelling.

As long as everyones armor doesn't improve with leveling I'll be happy.

Yeah at some point Oblivion just starts punishing you for leveling up by making the creatures stronger (mostly by giving them stupid amounts of health so you're just hacking away at them forever) faster than you get stronger, unless you 'level efficiently'.

Some people like their games to get harder the further they play instead of easier. So in that regard I can understand OPs opinion. Personally I think Skyrim will be an improvement.

The entire leveling system in Oblivion needed to be redone. You can trust Bethesda Game Studios to be very critical of their own games, even if we as the community didn't find it to be a huge problem, they would still see it in need of fixing. This is the one team of devs I trust with being smart on development.

One glance at the most popular Oblivion mods show that we do.

Fallout 3 already showed that Bethesda has recognized the problem with Oblivion's level scaling and have tried (succesfully) to come up with a better solution.

I'm sorry, but that's just dumb. The difficulty of playing is NOT a measurement of progression. Ideally, the player should find new challenges all the time.

Which Oblivion's system accomplished beautifully. Oh, and what's the point in levelling? Oh, I duno, how about getting better weapons, better armour, becoming more powerful, being allowed to do many more quests, fighting stronger opponents, dominating NPCs etc. etc. ?

Seriously, there are too many morrowind sympathisers in this forum..

I hated Morrowind but I can still see how terrible Oblivion's leveling system was.

I just hope they don't have quest rewards levelled like in OB. It is stupid how there are different 'versions' of items i.e. levels. They fixed this in FO3, so I am going to assume they did in Skyrim.

so what you are saying is that those better weapons and better armor didn't exist before you leveled up??? and because i leveled up now all of a sudden there are minataurs running all over the place??? where were they before i leveled up???

and you are missing the point. with level scaling in most cases you did get stronger but it actually became more difficult to survive. how does that make sense? i'm stronger but now i can't survive? it's backwards. as you level up and become stronger it should become easier to survive. and all armor and all weapons should be in the game right from the get go. if not it's unrealistic. don't get me wrong, you shouldn't be able to wear/use all of it but it should be there.

While some form of level scaling or increasing difficulty to match increasing power is needed....

Which Oblivion's system accomplished beautifully.

...Oblivion's level scaling is almost universally regarded as spectacularly terrible.
