I wish VATS would highlight corpses instead of allies

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 7:54 pm

I wish I could tell you how many hours I've spent trying to locate the corpses of my slain enemies. So frustrating. I've even had trouble finding supermutants at times, depending on the amount of clutter on the ground, and you'd think given their size, they'd be rather easy to see. Wouldn't it be great to highlight corpses in VATS, the same way we can highlight mines? There's really no need (that I can think of) to highlight allies... why not highlight corpses instead? It would make a great perk in the Perception line.

Throw a molintov, the corpse burns higher and for a longer time than the rest of the ground.

The only time I worry about losing my kill is when the kill occurs on a slope, and the dead body may roll down the hill to some unpredictable distance and location, making the ensuing search difficult, especially at night. If the dead body rolls down to a nearby pond or sea and becomes hidden underwater, it's even harder to find. Also, if the dead body is in shallow water, you may not even be able to activate the body to get the loot, because you may only be able to activate to drink the water instead. I'm all for a bit of a challenge, and the higher level you get, the less you sweat about losing some loot, so I'm not too bothered by all this.

use them on enimies you absolutely know you won't be able to find without it before they hit the ground to mark them.

I killed a super mutant on a steep slope with deep water at the bottom. Spent like ten RL minutes searching for him. While I was doing that, another supermutant came by, and I killed him in the same spot. I was able to follow the second one to the first one, as the current carried them along for quite a ways. I had been searching nowhere near where the first body was...

The other day, I spotted a pack of mangy dogs nosing around a car on the road in the distance. I detest game dogs so, of course, this group had to go. Being the oh-so-clever one, I figured I'd do the deed from a distance. I lobbed a grenade into the car and BOOM! Dogbits flying in every which direction. The upshot, unfortunately, was that I couldn't find any of those bits.

No mutt chops for me, haha.

Things I do to find the dead bodies, using the console:

-tcl: you can fly up into the sky and search for the bodies from above

-tg: toggles the grass so corpses hidden in the grass are now visible

-set gamehour to xx, where xx is the hour - this is to set the game hour to daylight if it's nighttime, making dead bodies way easier to spot (if it's foggy or rainy you can default to normal weather using command 'fw 0000015e' without the quotes)

I once killed a Yao Guay at level 10, running like half the map to not get killed, smacking him with my melee char once in a while till he dropped dead; as I was about to loot his body, a second bear came an chased me across the map....I then spent like 10 minutes to find the first bear corpse.

I wish they would just glow for a few minutes after you kill them...I rarely use vats, but I could see that being a little problematic switching around all the targets, especially if there are still enemies near by that get highlighted as well..

Should have given it to Mama Murphy.

And I agree with OP. A perk would be nice, perhaps glow in a different colour.

All of that plus the Bloody Mess perk makes the search real... interesting.

I use http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4380/?Works fine for me. Of course, it won't help people on console for now. It does however, require at least level 1 scrapper perk.
