Wisp Mothers .... OMG !

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 4:46 pm

Was wondering around just a few mins ago enjoying the amazing view from the south watchtower when I noticed 3 balls of light, I thaught they looked cute until they started to attack, few swings and they were gone but then all of a sudden WHAM my health go's to practically nothing... then I spot the Wisp Mother... my question to you guys is how the hell do you beat her? I tried on Expert and barely took any health off her while dying each time? I get that she fires ice shards at you and that is where most of the damage is done, but even avoiding them while hard I still find myself dying alot along with my flame atronach and my companion :(

Whats the deal? Why is she so tough I haven't had any problems beating most other creatures so far, btw I am level 11 and a Wood Elf Ranger who I thaught was pretty good with a bow.... apparently not :(

Thanks!

Can't help you I'm afraid mate - I read a book about them and I've been dreading running into one ever since. :(

God help me when it happens.

But if you haven't read the book, one theory is to kill the wisps first (maybe with stealth archery?) and the wispmother is greatly diminished. Maybe that will help you.

I don't know about anyone else, but I fought her as a basic dps race- I tossed as much continuous damage as I could as fast as I could, and popped a health potion too.

On my Argonian hist skin helped a lot to keep my health up. But I also switched out my shield, which is what a usually use, for another sword and just did as much dps as I could. I probably used a Warrior potion as well.

I seen her once.

I thought the wisp was pretty and then it came over to me and I had to kill it.

After that the wisp mother tried floating away while I shot it with arrows and it didn't really do anything.... except die.

Thanks anyhow :) Yeah I kill her kids but she is still way too powerful for me, my Orchish arrows don't seem to even touch her and if you get in close, instant death so if I can't beat her from range or up close where does that leave me? Force shout pushes her backwards but since she is sorta floating she doesn't fall off the cliff :( Maybe I should just scream and run the other direction? I really don't have to go down to Novice difficulty :(

I ran into one on my lvl 18 Nord Sorcerer type character (heavy armor, one handed, destruction). It was a tough fight for Lydia and I but we prevailed.

Has anyone tried a detect life spell to see it? I'm guessing there are not many expert characters in Alteration yet (including my character).

I don't know how a melee character would deal with the Wisp Mother. With my mage I summoned a critter to distract the wisps while I killed the Mother with firebolts. PS after you kill the wisps and get the mother down in health a bit, she starts spawning shades that melee you and explode the same way the wisps do. I'm not sure a melee character could survive, without having tons of HP and/or healing potions.

The first time I saw one I was level 12 or so. After 3 reloads, I realized she was way too powerful for me current abilities and just ran away. Just fought a different one at level 21 and was able to kill her (although I was also being peppered by Falmer archers at the same time...)

I use sword and board for everything, except stuff that it does no good to block;
then I whip out my dagger in my left hand.

For the whisp mother:
Hit her with fire breath, then DPS the hell out of her with Sword and Dagger.
Worked for me...didn't even need a potion.

Off topic... I was trying to find a good monster killer build, went through several characters and settled on sword and board.
Slow time when enemy power attacks is the best feat ever. Makes snow trolls killable...(Damn mages have it easy with their fireballs)

I like being able to walk through the woods and not get owned.

Wisps typically don't take physical damage. You'll need weapons that do fire/ice/shock/health leaching/etc... Basically need to kill em with magic.

The shades are mostly just for show, they'll go down in a hit or two. Just a distraction.

I too was entranced by those adorable little wisps flying around and tried to pet one. Then mommie shows up and WHAM! Barely made it out alive.

Yeah you are right, I just managed to kill her and I had to do it with magic they don't seem to mind physical damage much, I fired up my noob fireball in the left and lightning in the right while summoning fire antronachs, while not great at magic it was the only way I could find to kill her! She's tough, I wish I read about her first!

Btw the view from up there is amazing, that Aururas or whatever you call it.. effect with the swirling colors in the sky is incredible, probably the most beautiful effect I have seen in any game! Then you have the wind swirling the snowdrifts off the peaks... wow., the attention to detail in Skyrim has me constantly staring in wonder...

The whisp mother fell to my blades and the little whisps disappeared when I killed the mother.
