Witcher 3 vs Skyrim

Post » Thu Jun 25, 2015 3:26 pm

I recently played the witcher 3 and its my second rpg after skyrim. I'm still having trouble finding out which is my favorite. Skyrim is awesome but I enjoyed the witcher's combat better only because you can dodge roll. It reminds me of Assassin creed and Skyrim put together maybe it's my second favorite.

As you have enjoyed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt more, i suggest you - to leave that thread to rest, and take a look at this thread:

I don't see what the two games have in common. It's like trying to compare cheese to root beer.

If only we could take game for what they are instead of comparing them with other games that have nothing alike.

But this is the internet is it's not happening. ;)

I looked at plenty of you tube play to see if I'd like to 'convert' from Skyrim (heresy). I would not!

The Witcher world looks superbly rich in detail with huge numbers of busy npcs in places.....great. A fantastic place to roam and explore. However, then comes the action bit.....not so good.

I like my games to feel realistic, but have you noticed how Geralt moves in combat. He is blisteringly super quick. Now make whatever far fetched excuses you like for his super human prowess, but it just doesn't look right. The guy can forward roll faster than I can blink and then there's the sword play. He blade goes swish, swish so fast with no apparent effort he may as well be swinging a drinking straw. This is not a new fad in games either it goes back at least to Devil May Cry ( to name merely one of many). Geralt also has a totally unreal speed blur lagging after his blade.....utterly ridiculous. Even the very best real life Japanese Master of Katana sword play could not generate a ghost image 'whoosh' trailing his weapon swing.

Skyrim's combat has weight behind it. Weapon swings take time to a realistic degree and heavy weapons take a bit longer, again realistic. Both npcs and player char move at a rate consistant with a human, or humanoid, weight, strength and timing. Maybe not perfect,. But far better than Geralt's ludicrous 'superman' moves.

To me, the 'moves' we see in Witcher are pure comic book and a constant reminder that this game is merely a pretty toy!

Remember that Geralt is a witcher - mutated warrior. In books he could be so fast in combat that he blurred, so you know. The game sticks to the lore.

Ah! The old cheese vs root beer debate. Good times.;)

But seriously I have not played The Witcher 3 but have played the previous 2 up too chapter 2, and can say Morrowind and Skyrim are better. At least in those games my character's don't sound dull and boring.

Well, I didn't know anything about Witcher books, and full marks for them adhering to their own lore, but Imo, for myself, 'super speed' looks silly in almost any game of this type. He might be a mutant, or have 'magical abilities' to move quick, or an amulet of mass lessness. It doesn't matter. I can't get into a game world where I'm constantly reminded that it's a game by comic book whizzy moves. Jus' sayin'

I see no reason why a spellsword wouldn't be able to do the same in the TES universe. It just hasn't been shown in gameplay.

One is a story focused RPG and the other is more along the lines of a sandbox RPG. Both focus on different things in what defines them. I find it best to appreciate them both for what they strive to do as their own kind of RPGs and leave it at that. No need to determine which is better when they're so different.
