Witcher 2

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:15 pm

OK, I get this email from Witcher 2 Boards about the release date of the game (6 Months from now) and how you can get it from GOG if you want. I have not been following the early news of this game, as I don't want spoilers or too much information. I will get it and play it anyway, so why learn too much? That's just me though.

The other Witcher thread was getting old, so I started this one.

Anyway, just thought you folks would like to know. :)

Here is the earlier thread on this

That was a marketing stunt. They're still around.

Definitely gonna get it. Hopefully will get either the CE or premium.

I've been meaning to try The Witcher since the sequel looks promising. How well optimized is it?

You have to pre order the digital version on GOG, if you pre order it anywhere else you miss out on a lot of stuff.

If your from Europe you even get 16$ (or something around that) too spend on GOG because of the differences of euro and dollars. :twirl:

I'm not preordering from GOG because I want the collectors edition, not the digital version.

I would have thought that having a new game up for pre-order would go against the entire theory behind GoG.

Typically it would, but since the developers of The Witcher, and GoG are owned by the same parent company it makes sense why they would do it.

Plus if you get it from GOG.com, no DRM. I preordered from them. :celebration:

Fun fact - I pre-ordered the $130 Collector's Edition without knowing what the game was about. I just saw the presentation video on the homepage and decided to get it just because of the awesome stuff in the CE :celebration:

My guess, not very well. I had a brand new laptop at the time I played it (My current one for school and the little gaming I actually do on PC) with an i7 CPU, 1GB GPU memory and 8GB RAM. The game ran like [censored], I had to leave it on fairly low settings to have even decent performance. However, the game was so engaging and so fun to play that I didn't really care. That game used the Aurora engine, which is very limited though.

The Witcher 2 uses a brand new enginge developed in house so I imagine it'll run much better.

Still though, even if the first Witcher does run like crap (And it could simply be that my laptops GPU is too weak, it is a laptop after all) it's well worth playing.

The game ran great for me on a E6750, 7800, 1GB RAM. I would imagine your Lappie's video card is not up to the task, or, all the background apps that laptops want to load at boot. For some reason, people who make laptops think your machine needs to have 500 MB of programs running at start up.

I would like to order through GOG (given that more of the money goes to the developer that way as it's their sister company) but the price for the disk version is £9 less on Amazon, even taking into account the free stuff on GOG for UK/EU folks, that's kind of a no-brainer. Why are digital download prices fixed so that they are higher? It's bonkers!

I will definitely be getting the game though, I'm dead excited about it!

Usually I'd buy the Collector's Edition in a heartbeat, but the fact that the GOG version doesn't have any drm makes it very tempting. Decisions, decisions...

Chances are the disc copies don't either. A CD key probably, maybe at worst a disc-check (though I doubt it), but it's unlikely to be anything intrusive.

If that is all I'll probably go for the Collector's Edition on disc. We'll see though, The Witcher requires online registration for my EE download to work, which is giving me problems because I used to have it installed on a different pc, so now my key is in use 'by someone else'. Customer service isn't helping much either. I'll have to start bothering them again this week so I can prepare properly for Part 2 ^_^

Who else is looking forward to this game?

I just saw this amazing youtube video - apparently an internal video from a year ago with crappy temp voiceovers (but excellent improvement in graphics and animations from TW1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JciyoGmnGyo&hd=1

Definitely planning to pre-order this one. I would prefer to order all games from one online distributor (Steam), but since CD Projekt owns GOG they might offer some sort of special deal too sweet to pass up.

A new interview with senior producer Tomasz Gop has been published today on nVidia's website (nVidia interviews people?)
