With our powers combined - Destroy BoS

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 5:48 am

Hello!

I've completed the main quest with my first character quite along time ago now with the minuteman ending. I've been semi-allied with the brotherhood considering I'm a member but haven't progressed far in the BoS questline, but now when the settlements and the minutemen have grown i wish to see them to be the only true power in the commonwealth. So, I was very happy when I read there's a minuteman quest that can be started after the main questline is done called with our powers combined. The goal is to destroy the prydwen and the BoS.

However, to trigger this quest you first need to make the BoS hostile towards you. There's obvious ways of doing this ofcourse, like just walking into the prydwen and shooting poeple or shooting down their vertbirds. But it doesn't feel so satisfactory or logical for me. So my question is if there's any other way of making the brotherhood of steel hostile without just starting shooting them for now reason. Like a BoS quest or regular quest that have decisions that can make the brotherhood hostile (keep in mind this is after the main quest is completed)?

Yeah, lists of people are complaining about there not being a diplomatic ending where you could get all factions working together.

Part of me wishes there was an ending where you could destroy all the factions.

The answer to your question is: Probably, most likely, no. I've done that quest and the way I pissed off the BOS was by shooting Maxson in his smug jaw. To my knowledge there isn't a quest where the BOS and MM are at odds. In fact, none of the other factions have beef with the MM unless the SS makes it so.

Heh, yea no option to go full renegade. I guess the minutemen is suppose to be that 'independent' ending. Would work if it wasn't for preston, would be better if you could have formed a faction completely on your own terms.

Yea, I'm in no rush to declare war on the brotherhood, so I'll hold off. I mostly use the character to build settlements. Kinda wished there was one of brotherhoods own quests (or the one involving Danse) that would force you to make a decision. Oh well... I guess I have to just pretend..

My advice would be to complete "Mass Fusion" while doing an undercover route for the Railroad. You can blow your cover after that quest and then Dez will send you to the Minutemen. After you defeat the Institute Preston should talk to you about the BoS since you made them hostile in "Mass Fusion".

If you've already passed that point, I don't think there's a way beyond what you mentioned.

HAH! Seriously? Never going to happen. For starters, the BoS and the Institute are the antithesis of each other. No way is the Brotherhood going to allow the Institute to continue, even if you somehow managed to convince the Institute to leave the Brotherhood alone. The RR is too busy playing the noble freedom fighter to listen, though they might be convinced on the grounds that it's just plain too risky for them to directly confront either one. I kinda doubt they'd get down from the soap box long enough to realize that though. You could probably convince the Institute to leave them alone as a minor annoyance, but the BoS would consider synths too great a threat to just be let loose like that. Which is probably the reason the "new elder" content was cut.

Actually, no. The BoS and the Institute are not antithesis of each other. Maxson's BoS and the Institute are antithesis of each other. We have Father Elijah in New Vegas that searched for technology to defeat the NCR, then we have the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel. The Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel is willing to have Ghouls, Super Mutants, Deathclaws, and Humanoid Robots within its ranks. The Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel would be very accepting of having Synths in their ranks as long as they can follow orders. The Brotherhood wants to control technology so it doesn't go out of control and destroy civilization or force humans to become abominations like Ghouls and Super Mutants.

Destroying the Institute just causes more problems due to its technology spreading like a virus. After all, you have highly advanced Coursers that have inside knowledge of what the Institute is working on and most of it is not friendly like radiation resistant crops. Having the Brotherhood take over the Institute so they can control what research the Institute conducts would be the optimal Brotherhood ending, but that won't happen as long as Maxson is in power.

The problem is that the only non-sociopathic leader in Fallout 4 is Preston. There is no chance of a diplomatic solution with those sociopaths in power. Replace Maxson with Danse, Desdemona with Deacon or even Dr. Carrington, and Father with the Sole Survivor or Madison Li and a diplomatic ending can be reached.

As far as defeating the Brotherhood with the Minutemen, I suggest killing Maxson to grab his coat. Unfortunately his Gatling Laser is not available through the Minutemen unless you do the Railroad mission to destroy the Brotherhood and go to the Prydwen first instead of the Police Station.

Why not use the whole quote? It makes sense then. As it stands now both my quote and your reply make it sound like I am asking for a peaceful resolution, which I wasn't, but thanks for putting words in my mouth.

I want to be able to make the BoS hostile by stealing Maxson's coat.
