Okay, so if you're living under a rock someone on reddit who 'might' work at MIT posted this.
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/yexpi/fallout_4_will_take_place_in_boston/
"The rumors are true, Fallout 4 will take place in Boston. In case you haven't heard, Bethesda has recently been scoping out and researching Boston. They also have a strong connection to MIT. I may or may not be an MIT employee. But that's really all I can say for fear of losing my job.
I am telling you it will take place in Boston. Whether you believe me or not, how do you feel about a Fallout Boston?"
So that's pretty vague, but how do we know this could even be a possibility? One big fat reason. Zimmer from FO3.
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Zimmer
MIT is the Institute that Zimmer was talking about in the Commonwealth. There's also mention of Boston at other parts of the game, but The Commonwealth was thought to be an expansion DLC around the time FO3 released. Now this could be coincidental, but there's been a lot of rumors and with Bethesda at MIT that should take notice.
What does this mean? Well according to Zimmer and following the lore The Institute is even more advance than the old world was. Zimmer openly despises and thinks Rivet cities lab is a "chemistry set" and not "real science". Another possibility is that MIT is actually a micro city hub in the Boston area. The Replicated Man (the quest tag associated with Zimmer) is heavily inspired by Blade Runner. It's not beyond the realm that MIT could be like New Vegas. Even sharing a lot of design motifs with Blade Runner like city. Zimmer also points out that the rest of the Common Wealth is much like the wasteland. If you look at parts of old industry in Boston, it's mostly ruin right now.
Boston also has a lot of Iconic locations like...
Fenway park
The Prudential Center
The Mall
The Boston Commons
The South End
Little Italy
The Market Place
Financial District
Speaking of Fenway Park, how neat would it be if Red Sox fans were baseball themed Raiders who socked their socks in blood. Just an idea.
Oh and if you're wondering about music, well doing some research the only song I can find that relates to Boston that is around the era of most Fallout music is this.

Take it or leave it. It looks like we'll be going to Boston in a few years.
