[List] Wizard Island support

Post » Mon Oct 25, 2010 5:29 am

Hey there,

Well this is an odd list if i do say so myself! Essentially this is a mod list for a mod. I recently downloaded Wizard Island and i remebered it conflicted with the Golden Dragon. Knowing there was a patch for this, i did a seach on PES and a wealth of patches/addons/fixes cam up for wizard island! I had seen many times on here various threads about wizard island and i thought - How about a mod list and a support thread for wizard island?

So this thread is two fold. firstly it will list all avalible patchs/fixes/addon's for the mod as well as (hopfully) being a support thread, where people who are playing/have played wizard island can come in and talk about the mod.

======================================================

So with out further yapping from me here is the list:

Main

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=636
Wizard Island - What this list is all about! WI is a large landmass mod, with an awsome back story and many quests. Includes new armor, weapons and creatures! Vist http://wizards-islands.planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/wi.htmfor more detailed information. Also an online readme ishttp://www.wizards-islands.planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/Wizards_Islands_Install.txt
There is also an online map of the island which http://www.wizards-islands.planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/Wizards_Islands_SotFB_WebMap2.jpg

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2945
Fixes some minor errors and spelling mistakes, as well as adding a number of new additions such as the ice harpy. Release notes for the Patch http://wizards-islands.planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/Wizards%20Islands%20-%20Update%20v1.05%20-%20ReadMe.txt

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5876
This is a translation of the mod into Itallian, for well - Itallian people.

Unofficial Fixes/Addon's

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3249
This plugin fixes certain areas in the Wizards Islands mod, like the BloodLords Quarters and the Cult Area. These run horribly slow on some systems (sometimes <1 FPS). The fix changes the way the scripts responsible for these slowdowns work. This puts FPS back to normal rates. See readme for details.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3429
Another FPS and performance enhancing mod. Essentially this one changes the snow to the bloodmoon snow increasing performance. Well worth the download. Also has some other minor changes.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2959
This mod is a little tweak that makes the Permafrost Armor more rewarding for the trouble you had to go to get it. The changes include a more befitting name, upgraded enchantments, artifact-worthy value, and better quality for the armor.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6428
Ever get lost playing a mod or need a little help? This mod adds the Wizards' Islands walkthru as an ingame book. The Book can be found in Fargoth's house on the bed.

Compatibility

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=283
This is a replacement ESM file for Wizards' Islands. It renames a few items so that it is compatible with Balmora Expansion. Only use if you use Balmora Exapnded and Wizard Island

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3012
Moved the landmass so that it no longer conflicts with anything (that includes WI). Requires The Golden Dragon http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3009

http://abot.silgrad.com/guppy/file/Wizards_Islands_patch_abot.zip
This mod makes WI compatible with NOM. Now you dont have to take your own food and water. It also fixes some scripts to read better, minor changes but makes it flow better. :D NOTE: this mod is no longer surported by the Author.

Wizard Islands will conflict with anything that takes up the same game space as it does, so its important to check compatibility. Here are some usful links which show landmass mods, and provide you of an idea of what conflicts with WI:

http://www.mwmythicmods.com/MAPoMODSbyCyronaut.jpg - this shows most landmass mods and the gamespace they take up

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg282/MrKWMonk/Map-nonlorestuff.jpg - This map shows clearly where wizard island's is and the game space it takes up. Use it as refrence with the MapOmods to pick out any conflicts. It also shows the locations of other landmass mods that are compatible with WI

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg282/MrKWMonk/Map-lorishwithnotes.jpg - This mod is similar to MapOMods but adds in more recent mods. It shows the locations of TR maps 1+2 as well as silgrad tower. Use it with MapOMods to reduce conflicts.

Thanks to Mr KWMonk for the Map of Lands 1+2 showing conflicts :)

Misc

Captain Zaltan was a memeber of the Wizard Island's team. This companion mod was suposed to be included in an expansion for Wizard Island's, however the expansion was never released. Xaptain Zaltan then released the companion mod as a seprate mod. While not entirly WI, it has WI roots and so deserves a mention here. Please http://captainzaltan.googlepages.com/captainzaltan%27smorrowindpage for more information, screenshots, other projects and Wizard Island Wallpapers

Good job, Midgetalien. Some of these are essential. The Bloodmoon snow patch is a life saver.

I have played it.
It's a pretty epic mod, I played through it twice just to see everything. It has a few bugs, but nothing too annoying.
Hmmm... I almost feel like playing through it again, now. :)

The walkthrough is nice, but sometimes it was too vague, and other times it had spoilers. I'd recommend only using it if absolutely necessary.

I know! I am surprised there havnt been more mods made to fix the bugs or add new content to it.

I am just at the first island, i.e just fresh of the ship wreck, loving every minute of it!

If I ever got through graphically updating Veldion I would have done the same with WI eventually, the plan was to update older great mods so that they too look akin to the updates MW get. However I grew to bored with working on it, so it will probably not continue with it. All I have done so far however is released on PES =) (That is for Veldion tho)

yeah it does need a graphic update! lol. pity you cant get texture replacers to work with it.

I was also thinking - there isnt a NOM addon anywhere either. Also a MCA addon would be swell, as well as a LGNPC type project...... and.......well many more ideas lol

nevermind found the problem - i registered the BSA while still in game. starting morrowind up again fixed the probelm.

I also took a look at hte mod in the CS and came across the Durzog armor. Theres two types, and i want to compare them in game but i get an error with one of them.

Something about a hash map error. Anyone know what this means?

Yeah, been playing it, not finished yet. Awesome stuff. I can't believe I never played it sooner.

I forgot to register the BSA too. Was kind of funny to be in a ghost ship with no wood to support my gravity. I just fell into the water from mid air.

I actually uninstalled WI after I completed it once, so I could try different mods that would unfortunately conflict with it. I did enjoy the storyline, though, despite the grammatical errors.

Its a shame the project's dead. I would've loved to try out the sequel mod.

It does and I did use it, but there's still things that were missed.

You guys can. =X The last time I worked on dialogue in a mod, I ended up erasing all dialogue topics for an entire race.

I stay out of dialogue now.

Yeah, this mod received far less praise than it deserved.

I'm not a spelling nazi, so I think I saw only one thus far. Not bad at all.

My only real gripes with the dialogue in the mod was the lack of discussion topics for NPCs, and how the journal entries looked so... different from other journal entries due to the occasional lack of capitalization and such.

I'd do something about it on my own if it weren't for the fact I don't know what I'm doing when editing dialogue.

The journal capital thing would be easy to fix. As for the lack of topics, thats not really a bug, but more of an oversight from the creators. Perhaps someone might be willing to flesh out the topics abit - i'd do that but dialogue isnt my strong suit. I could fix spelling ect.. and other things though.

Here is what can be found by http://search.yacoby.net/?name=%2BWizards+%2BIslands&author=&description=&game=MW. I think Zennorius' one is essential.
Hmm, I remember when I played it I made a http://abot.silgrad.com/guppy/file/Wizards_Islands_patch_abot.zip mainly to have NOM food... not supported though, so don't ask if something does not work!

Poor Vance is the only one without a vote :( Not much love for gothic vampires here I see.

I think it's a shame, that the patches and stuff are all add-on's intead of having been merged into Wizard Island (provided they are good enough). Things like the spelling correction, the FPS-optimization and probably others seems like definate improvements, which a played always would be want, so it would definately make lives easier for the players.
I know that mentioning something like that is like walking into a minefield though, and I don't know if any original WI modders are still present to do or just allow someone else to do it, but it would be good.

I haven't played a lot of WI myself yet (mostly because I become bored with my characters or something gets corrupted before I'm ready for high-level mods like this), but it is part of my current game and I have fought a yellow diamond named Christo... is Tel Branora (I need to look at the bsa-rigister thing too it seems).

I seem to remember a compatibility patch between WI and TR being made. I'm not sure, if it actually was finished though.
