Not that much information has been released reguarding the flesh of the story, but it seems to me that TES has a tendancy to either start you off as a prisoner or captive or under someone's authority to explain your presence where you are. Been that way since arena, I would be interested in something new, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The answer is yes, you begin the game as a prisoner, again. Not to say you necessarily start in 'jail' though.

Todd also commented on this in the Q&A being both tradition and making the player think to himself in the lines of: "if im the good guy supposed to save the kingdom, why am i in prison" so that the player can make his or her own little intro to the surcumstances regarding his imprisonment.

Plus it's the perfect excuse as to why you don't have anything but the clothes on your back.

I don't have a problem starting in prison. What I do have is the problem in Oblivion of being an Imperial who knows nothing about Cyrodiil, and, very likely, in Skyrim a Nord who knows nothing about Skyrim. I mean even if you were born elsewhere you'd have grandma's stories or something. In Morrowind it was clear why you were unfamiliar with the area--you were told you had been put in prison and transported to Vaardenfell, so you wouldn't know anything about the culture even if you were a Dunmer, plus it was clear you were an orphan.

I'd just some, brief, explanation of why you're ignorant of your surroundings, or perhaps a perk of "area knowledge" for Nords.

I'll live if I don't get it, you understand, but it would be nice.

No. In a complete twist of events that Bethesda has recently taken, we'll begin as a prison guard this time :D

Starting out as a prisoner is a great way to start a game. It's also good roleplaying wise because it also allows you to develop your character's backstory with you only needing to add how you got in Jail to your backstory. Since it looks like you'll be executed this time around crimes in roleplaying will have to be more creative.

I don't mind it,although it is is strange how they want your head, but will let us go.. However not a bad start point, interesting to see how we get out of it,and like has been said,it helps with back story:

Did my guy kill a noble, preformed magical experiments on animals? And that can refelct on how you play,if he killed and arogent noble,he might have a tendecy to kill those who are rude to him.

And that's why I'm not calling for change... ;)

I don't think it was officially confirmed, but I remember Todd Howard discussing it in past games in a recent interview, calling it a tradition since TES: Arena, so I'd be willing to bet that we WILL start in prison, or as a prisoner rather.

If I remember correctly, the only installment in the main series in which you don't start off as a prisoner would be TES II: Daggerfall. But in TES I, III, & IV, you definately do.

Good Morning Kids,

A couple of days ago someone posted a picture of a prisoner being transported (on foot) through a snowy tundra.

It would be great if the opening was similar to Conan the Barbarians opening. Depending on the slave task you choose to do, it will naturally get you stated off in the direction you wish to proceed (magicka, warrior or stealth). Near the end of this a Dragon attacks a town, which ignites your abailities to speak their language - wilst defeating this minor dragon using some sort of dragon shout you did not know you had (small cutscene - have the grey beards hear of this prisoner's task and this is when they call to you) You are set free becuase of your deed and begin to play the game with your already attributed (choosen) path.

Just a thought! :spotted owl:
