Women over 30 and Skyrim

Post » Sat Nov 20, 2010 7:32 pm

i never trust any one over the internet and dont care for proof that u are a 32 year old woman but i do find it a bit strange that a women over 30 is playing elder scrolls but hey it is one addicting game

Being over twice her age I have no idea why it would seem strange to you. What do you think is a normal past time for a lady over 30? I need to know quick before I die and waste anymore time with gaming. :P

 Why do I suddenly feel like yelling at you all to get the heck off my lawn?

I'm more than a dozen years over 32, and chances are good that I have just as many if not more rpg type games than the "kids" here. I loved Morrowind, and although I had some issues with Oblivion, overall I really liked it, and I'm still playing both. I'm looking forward to Skyrim.

I find it stranger for people to not play games of some kind, actually. Not everyone is going to have the patience for TES style games, though. I'm just hoping that my rpg type games aren't going to all go the way of DA2/hot-rod samurai/voiced pc/push a button and something awesome happens route.

My dad's 45 and we play Xbox 360 online :)
I don't think age has anything to do with it. And the fact that your a female I think is good. I think there needs to be more female gamers. Too many male gamers think that gaming is only for guys... Why? If we enjoy killing creatures, exploring distant lands, and levelling up, why can't girls?

Now... Recruit others into the world of the Elder Scrolls! :D

When I see a woman over 30 who wants to play Skyrim I think "I hope it's a good game," because I am that over 30 woman. Over 40 at that. I grew up with computer games and often miss the good old days, but Bethesda has been producing great games for years and still is. Why would I not be looking forward to Skyrim?

For those who think I'm weird - let me weird you out some more. I've spent most of my career as a computer programmer and Linux administrator, and I recently gave in to my long standing urge to get into game programming. I'm still getting up to speed right now learning OpenGL (Microsoft can follow Bender's Imperative), but I'm having a blast.

I do wish there were fewer young gamers, actually. Why? Because Bethesda censors its games for the teenagers and it bugs me. It's not just Bethesda, of course. Things I had been accustomed to in games of the 80's and early 90's went away in the 00's when gaming went mainstream and stopped being marketed to advlts. I'm afraid to mention anything specific because there's a thread still n the front page that just got locked because a moderator thought a verboten topic might come up.

My boyfriend might object. ;)

Well I guess it was foolish of me to think a woman like that would be free

And seriously, I'm surprised this thread even exists, I thought in this day and age something like gender or number of calendars you went through doesn't matter if you're doing something you enjoy.

TES is a series for mature players, Morrowind in particular. Not because of the content, but because of the depth and the resulting difficulty of playing.

I'm with you. Internet fistbump, or whatever is in nowadays.

Doesn't seem strange or out of place to me. One of my friends fits into the category herself, whilst I fail to meet one of the criteria. You get to guess which one.

No, it's not weird, it's very very cool. Myself I'm a 36 year old doctor and I'm an Elder Scrolls fanatic. Oblivion (and Skyrim) is in my mind every day.

There's nothing weird about a woman in her thirties playing a videogame. My other half is in her thirties and plays games every now and then (shes 33 and I'm 26)

Exactly. That's what keeps me coming back to it. I hope that Skyrim has the depth that Morrowind had. Oblivion had an OK story but Morrowind is the example I pull out any time someone asks me what I'm looking for in a game. (That and Ultima 7: The Black Gate from 1992, which was my favorite game until I found Morrowind.)

Morrowind had a sense of moral ambiguity that I really appreciated. Yes, there was an overwhelming evil threat to be defeated, but they more you learned about the supposed good guys the the more their shine turned dull, and as you learned about Dagoth Ur's history you came to realize that he wasn't entirely to blame for his current condition. But as in real life, the injustices of the past often become irrelevant in the face of stopping injustice in the present. On top of this, Morrowind had interesting political, religious, and economic stories to tell about the Dunmer. It all combined to make Vvardenfell feel real in a way that few game worlds ever do.

1/3 of games are wemon over 18, that outnumber the guys under 18 that plays games and most video gamers are in their 30's and have been playing for 12 years
That's interesting, because I'm a guy, 28, works in medical field, and I've been playing TES games since 1995, about 16 years, roughly.

Well said, Moriel.

Hi, welcome to the forums! http://www.uesp.net/wiki/General:Fishy_Stick!

I'm a guy and I like video games. I started with Oblivion and play Morrowind occasionally. I almost finished the main quest, but we just got our computer repaired, and I lost the data, so I haven't been playing as much.

Women older than 30 and playing video games... I never knew they existed. But age and gender don't matter. It's the games you play that do matter.

Actually I just wanted to add that I think games will take over eventually from Movies, I mean why would you want to just sit and watch a Movie when you could actually take part in it? It just makes sense that eventually we will move on to a more interactive form of entertainment then just sitting and watching a story unfold. That is the biggest complaint I have about games that don't allow the player to do everything and the developer makes it all so simple that it becomes almost as bad as just watching a Movie. Instead developers should strive to give the player as much control as they possibly can, which will make the experience more immersive and much more satisfying.

Nah,it's not weird.

Being more than 30 doesn't mean you can't play video games, and being a girl doesn't affect that either.

Our parents or grandparents still do things they did when they where young.
Perhaps they didn't had video games back then, but they had pinball machines and they could play things like cards, golf or soccer.
Lot's of those grown up people do these activities even today at their 50s and 60s and 70s.

We (that includes me and you) are people that grown up with video games, and it's normal to want to still do things we liked before.
What you did at your childhood will be something that you will always remember and want to do again. :)

To speak the truth, what seems to me rare,is that a female plays games like RPGs and is not restricted to cityville and wii sports.

I try to convince my sister to play 'serious' games, like RPGs or FPSs but she won't do even if I pay her.

I'm a woman, 32 years now and I got a profession in law but do this only part-time at the moment. About ten years ago I loved to play RPGs, especially TES: Morrowind including the addons. Later, I tried Oblivion and I was stoked. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to play a lot.

Now, that I hear that Skyrim is going to be released, I feel myself pulled back ten years, getting excited again like as I was ten years younger, lol! :liplick:

I know that nowadays, most of the players are male and I think they're in their 20's or so.
What do you guys think? I'm going to be 33 soon...Is it kinda weird that somebody like me really want to dive into another world like Skyrim again?

Can't wait for this game!

Can you please talk to my wife!?

I'm 31 and she hates that I play video games. She's huge into Twilight, Vamire Diaries, etc. and I tried to tell her that you get to "be" a vampire in TES. But it did no good.
