Women over 30 and Skyrim

I'm 37, and I still enjoy playing the Elder scroll games, Morrowind especially.

There's nothing weird about it at all. I plan on gaming long past 32!

I think it's pretty cool. The Elder Scrolls are meant to be enjoyed by everyone, including women. I play with many women on XBL, and they hold their own against the men every time. I think in 10 years, gaming will be pretty close to a 50/50 split, gender wise.

You're weird. Honestly. :P But all kinds of people have all kind of weirdnesses, so it's okay.

And for the record, 31 woman here, so I should know about being weird. ;) Although I suspect in my case this is merely the french fries on the side of a huge plate of strangeness, but that's another subject.

There's quite a few around these forums, so that's nothing special much. Morrowind lovers going older is all.

Turned 40 this year (female) and have always loved games, rpg's in particular. You guys have to remember the Super Nintendo generation is getting a little bit older (that's me, lol) Games have come along way since then, but that was really the first platform that held mass appeal when I was a teenager. Moved to the PC in my twenties and have had both the PC and Playstation consoles in my home ever since. I think gaming is just a part of our culture now, in any form. Personally I think thats awesome, because I would rather be trying to figure out some puzzle or hack my way to the next dungeon, than to sit on the couch and watch tv. I figure at least I'm using my brain a bit :).

Is there some implication that games become less fun after you get to a certain age? Do movies become less entertaining after you get older?

It becomes less socially acceptable the older you get, but I think that is going to change. This is the era of video games and technology, I think that the generations playing games now will continue to play them for the rest of their lives.

When I was in my mid-twenties most of my female friends went to parties or clubs and drank alcohol at the weekends while I often stayed at home to continue exploring every corner of Morrowind.
I had some friends with whom I was sharing my gaming experiences but they all were male, which wasn't a problem for me of course! I like being among men, they're just much simpler than a crowd of women, haha!

I'm 24 now, and I definitely plan on being as excited in 10 years about TES:VII (or something like that...^^) as I am now about Skyrim! I think it's really cool that there are games like the TES series that appeal not only to young male players, but to men and women of all ages and educational and social backgrounds.

Just do what makes you happy reguardless of age, I am male in my early 50's and I have been a fan of Elder Scrolls since the series began so there is no way I will miss out playing Skyrim....Right now I am playing Morrowind because my regular gaming PC had the Motherboard fry on it and I had to piece together an older Pentium 4 system that just won't let me play the more modern games. So lately its been game like Morrowind, NeverWinter Nights, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, and of course Titan Quest the Immortal Throne.

My Significant Other is a woman over 30. She doesn't just play Elder Scrolls games, she is also a well-known modder. We actually met and fell in love on these forums. ;)

I'm curious. Who is it? (if it's ok to tell)

Its not that there is an implication that getting older stops people playing games,

I think the trouble is most of us remember our parents telling us to "stop playing bloody games and do your homework!"

So as our parents were older we immediately attribute a "Dont tell the oldies" view of things lol

I honestly don't think age really matters when it comes to gaming. This hobby isn't physically demanding. So, the idea of "knowing when to quit" only applies to the fact that you're playing too often.

You're never to old to do what you want to do in your life. Unless of course, being too old prohibits you from doing so.

My wife and I were introduced to TES with Oblivion, but when Todd Howard and the robed people came out during the Video Game Awards, she squealed with delight. She's looking forward to it even more than I am. Oh, the point of all that: she's 33. I believe she said she had a geekgasm.

I think it's great TES can be enjoyed by a diverse crowd. I never understood why gaming was often stereotyped as being something only young boys could enjoy. Music, movies, and books do not have these same limitation imposed...why gaming? Gaming is fun, why can't everyone just have fun!?

As for the factor of age, well you have to remember TES is one of the oldest surviving game franchises out there. It would make sense that the long time fans are a bit older. I think it's due to the fact they Bethesda are great at rebuilding each game as something fresh and new. We all get nostalgic saying "oh I wish X was more like Morrowind, or Y was like Daggerfall" but part of the reason the game has survived this long is by making improvements (sometimes radical) to better the series and bring it to a new generation. It's been my experience that the series is getting more and more popular as times goes on.

I'm a guy and nearly 30 myself but plan to game the rest of my life, it's just a part of my life and nothing will take that away! If you feel the same then more power to ya! :)

Many, many years beyond 30 and super excited about Skyrim. Always played video games--since Pong--and always will. TES is without equal...sure beats quilting !

I think this has to be one of the best threads I have seen. I am glad to see that I am not the only 30 year old who loves this game and I am glad to see that many women have excellent taste in video games as well.

I dont think girl gamers are weird or anything but they sure are rare on online shooters. On playstation home there are alot though. I think playing games a 60+ is strange mainly because it is extremely rare. I plan to play games until i die preferably playing oblivion or skyrim in during my final hours.

I'm a dude over 40 and just like MudCrabFever said, have played games since pong and I'll be playing until the end, especially TES stuff. I know a couple gals in the 30-40 age group that play games (Guild Wars, Morrowind, Oblivion, etc...) It's great you like the Elder Scrolls too. :D

It would be weird, thinking about my parents playing TES. Still, the dad of a friend of my sister is a game fanatic. He has a wii, ps3, 360 and a great pc. If my sister's friend comes over, her dad also comes to talk about games. It would be pretty cool though. I ask my parents if they could help me if I'm stuck with my homework, AND I could ask them about some particular part in a game where I'm stuck and they help me. Or just play something like Halo Reach with your father. That would be fun. :hubbahubba:

fitgal1978, I think it's perfectly normal. Games has taken place into people's lives as a form of entertainment, same as watching TV, sports or any other hobby. how people unwind from the stresses of daily lives is up to them and shouldn't be subject to judgement. If you like gaming, and it makes you like getting up in the morning, then all the power to you, and never let anyone tell you it's childish or abnormal.

I myself am male, 27 and having a baby in April. I forsee a lot of changes in my life, but gaming being a passion of mine, that will not change. I won't let anyone tell me it's for kids, or too childish, or is making me an irresponsible parent, because I game instead of watching tv, and I am entitled to entertainment as much as anybody else.

My 2 cents.
