Women over 30 and Skyrim

In my eyes every year a gamer has over 30 just increases my respect for them.

I dont think girl gamers are weird or anything but they sure are rare on online shooters. On playstation home there are alot though. I think playing games a 60+ is strange mainly because it is extremely rare. I plan to play games until i die preferably playing oblivion or skyrim in during my final hours.

My little sister and I play black ops together, and she's the worst trash-talker I've ever played with. It's pretty hilarious.

I myself am male, 27 and having a baby in April. I forsee a lot of changes in my life, but gaming being a passion of mine, that will not change. I won't let anyone tell me it's for kids, or too childish, or is making me an irresponsible parent, because I game instead of watching tv, and I am entitled to entertainment as much as anybody else.

Congrats!

And I look at it this way: gaming, at its least complex and challenging, is comparable to an interactive movie - it still requires more user input, choice, and engagement than television, which as a pastime is almost universally seen as acceptable for people of all ages. And at its most engaging, gaming can be part of an extremely creative and satisfying hobby; I've learned and improved many computer, art and writing skills as a direct result of playing RPGs.

Gaming is also, in many cases, non-competitive - which means people of all physical and mental abilities, as well as ages and genders, can enjoy and challenge themselves in games on an even footing. And that's a really nice thing.

My mam used to love playing Morrowind! (She was in her thirties at the time too)

She only quit because she said she loved it too much and it was taking up her life. :'D

While I am not female, I will turn 32 this year (two days after the release of Skyrim no less!!) and my video game career is going on 28 years which started with the Commodore 64. I actually see aging as one of the biggest benefits to my gaming because now I have the luxury of being able to afford an awesome gaming setup and all of the perks that go with that. Plus I have lots of vacation time saved up which will start to dwindle upon the release of Skyrim.

I voted that you are one cool mama. My wife will not be looking forward to Skyrim as one of her least favorite things is watching me play games and she has no interest herself. In one way this is good because she won't be trying to cut into my gaming time by stealing the game from me. I think one TES addict in the house is enough.

I'm 29 and I'm playing games since I was 4.

Not on a daily basis because most games today are rubbish, but when some interesting get's announced I'm pretty excited.
Currently playing Morrowind and Knytt stories for a few hours/week and I'm looking forward for Portal2 and off course Skyrim.

Elder Scrolls and the Half-life universe are my favorite franchises... plenty of other good games out there, but can't really get into them as much for some reason.

As one who belongs to the dreadfully ordinary "20-something male" category

I'm also in that "dreadfully ordinary" cathegory. Though I suppose being gay makes me a little more unusual  I'm 22 and will be playing game as long as I still enjoy it, and I don't see the fun going away for many years.

I think you're awesome for doing what you enjoy. You should be proud that you're not just sticking to gender/age stereotypes. I think I remember a woman posting here who mentioned she's in her sixties, so you're not the oldest member here by far. The agething is a little silly, though. Because of the violence in most popular videogames it shouldn't be odd at all that an advlt plays videogames.

And lastly. As Benjamin Franklin once said: "We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing"

hosnestly i dont see how gender or age would factor whether or not you play a video game. i think if video games were not stigmatized as a guy thing for the last 20+ years there would be just as many if not more women than men playing games today.
i work in retail electronics and with game systems like the Wii i see more and more women coming in and buying games, at first for the wii then i see them later buying more hardcoe things like CoD and other games that would be considered guy games. im hoping by the time my daughter gets old enough to comprehend games (she's 8 months) she'll be able to play without thinking it should only be a guy thing.... that and plus i would like a little gaming buddy :D

Well I'm in my 30s and been gaming since I was 5 back in 1984, I'm interested in Skyrim. I'm hoping they'll keep gender choice in since I've gotten to the point where I'm sick to death of male leads and keep hoping for female leads who are made with respect, instead of made just to cater to some male fantasy of how women are expected to be.

I enjoy gaming, more enjoyable than the junk that passes for 'prime time TV' these days. I'm not a parent, nor do I have to worry about sharing the TV and such, so no arguments with the other half, if I botherd with such a thing, over who uses the TV and what games are played.
I'm hoping Skyrim will be enjoyable.

Skyrim might also be a breath of fresh air amongst a market that's being clogged with the same tired shooters.

I'm 74 years old, i will play skyrim (if i will be alive when it's released)

A man tends to live longer when he's got something to do.

My wife is 28, I'm 35 and we have both been avid Bethesda game fanatics since Morrowind. We are both very excited for the next installment.

I voted normal.

As long as there are still games like Diablo, Deus Ex, or Elderscrolls I'll keep playing. But if things get relegated to a sea of Madden/Call of Duty mediocrity(a disturbingly large portion of gaming is just that now) I'll definitely hang up the controller for good.

My 40 year old son thinks it's great I have a hobby to enjoy during my retirement years and loves that I play video games. TES, my favorite, Fallout, his favorite and only gives me a bit of crap about not playing CoD because he says it's good. I'm not into that sort of game though. My grandkids jumped up and down when they saw my name in the credits for Oblivion and they think it makes me one cool grandma.

I automatically dismiss any notion that females don't play video games because gender bias/generalization never works, we are all horses of different tastes.

And last of all, I'm all about what Tom Robbin's wrote in "Still Life With a Woodpecker".

One is never too old to have a happy childhood.~

I don't see how being gay (I'm also) makes us unusual.....despite an obvious preference for male characters :hubbahubba:

And I agree with Benjie :)

I think this has to be one of the best threads I have seen.

I was just going to write the same thing. My favourite thread in this forum so far. Many thanks to fitgal1978 fo starting it.

I've been told so many times that playing video games is a waste of time for anybody but boys in their teens, and that basically as an advlt woman I shoud be ashamed of spending my valuable time on these things. Knowing that I'm not alone with my hobby makes me feel much better. :-)

25/male/still love games.

Whenever I start a family, that will cut into the time I spend playing, but it will be a side hobby.

I'm a woman, 32 years now and I got a profession in law but do this only part-time at the moment. About ten years ago I loved to play RPGs, especially TES: Morrowind including the addons. Later, I tried Oblivion and I was stoked. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to play a lot.

Now, that I hear that Skyrim is going to be released, I feel myself pulled back ten years, getting excited again like as I was ten years younger, lol! :liplick:

I know that nowadays, most of the players are male and I think they're in their 20's or so.
What do you guys think? I'm going to be 33 soon...Is it kinda weird that somebody like me really want to dive into another world like Skyrim again?

Can't wait for this game!

Well then you have quite a few things in common with me! I'm a 32 year old female. I work in a legal profession full-time, not a lawyer myself, but working for attorneys. And I've always loved RPGs. Nothing abnormal about you. Revel in it! Have fun with Skyrim if your busy life allows. I know I will. :foodndrink:
