Won't be purchasing TES V?

Yes, let's all bash the company that rescued the franchise from being forever lost to history. (sarcasm intended)

They could have made their own post apocalyptic title and it would have wound up just the same, they don't need to plaster on the title of a franchise they never made and yet failed to retain fidelity to.

I got the name because I joined after the game was announced, so part of it was excitement. No, I'm not going to judge the game before I play it like everyone else seems to do, but I will once I play it. If I like it, awesome! If I don't, thats really disappointing.

I can't have a name based on a game announcement? Now a forum name matters?

Nope. Standard rules. Sorry.

In all seriousness though, it's very easy to detect faults with a game before it's released. I'm a mod at the Eidos site for Deus Ex, and let me tell you, the original fans of the game know it's going to be a pathetic joke when it's released based upon the information they have. They don't need to play it to know it'll be bad. Just like you don't need to get hit by a truck to know it hurts - you can infer that based upon the information we have. Hell, I said I wasn't going to like the changes made in Oblivion, but everyone told me to wait for the game, wait until I played it, so I kept an open mind... Played it... And realized people were completely wrong, and I still hated the changes.

If there is someone I view as "whiny teens", it's the people that goes "Waaah, Oblivion wasn't Morrowind 2!". I don't care what you buy or don't buy, but that kind of rant is something I stopped taking seriously a long time ago. I am not a teen, I loved both Morrowind and Oblivion, and I can't wait to get my hands on Skyrim. You go and sulk if you want.

Sorry Tabris, we don't want Morrowind 2, we want something other than an FPS with RPG-Characteristics and Shiny Effects. Oh and cliche questlines. Sorry, you see we think lore and plot are more important than Rule of Cool.

...And then people would be saying that it's just a ripoff of Fallout.

No because then only Fallout fans would know what Fallout was. Fallout 3 wasn't Fallout... It was a post-nuclear RPG, but not Fallout.

Criticizing a game is one thing, bashing it with a sense of black/white attitude ("Morrowind is the greatest RPG that ever graced mankind, Oblivion is a dung of bile not worth the case it came in") is just whining and ranting. Too bad if you only saw rule of cool and shiny effects in Oblivion - I found much more in the game myself.

And why should devoted fans be left with disappointment when they could just as easily have complete relish in the fact the game is amazing? Oblivion would have no doubt blown me away in the early days, but after you play it a few tines you clue into the fact that there are a lot of problems with the game, problems that could have just as easily been a whole lot better.

To be honest, I never followed the development of Oblivion, in retrospect, watching the Oblivion development videos would have really alarmed me had I been a Morrowind fan at the time. Hearing some of the things Todd says in interviews scares the crap out of me sometimes. Oblivion had many logical improvements to it, but and equal number of disappointments to be brought along with it.

Game developers are not gods, they are capable of making bad decisions, many of Oblivion's features and quirks are testament to that. If you are out of touch with the fans, nobody is going to be there to tell you you're going to [censored] up.

The age of the gamer is not so relevant, for example I'm smarter than my father hands down.

I hear that type of argument about New Vegas as well, and that was developed by some of the same people that did the originals, What's your point?

First of all, not all of us are teenagers...

I am.
To the OP: I love Morrowind to death, but I still respect that Oblivion had its better parts. I don't hate Oblivion, I like Morrowind more. I found (and still find) Morrowind just as (if not, more) accessable than Oblivion. And I will play Skyrim for what it is, and enjoy it. I will not stop playing Morrowind of course. But just respect each game for what it is.
So a teenager can pick up any Elder Scrolls game (I'm even playing DAGGERFALL) and enjoy it.

I wish I could agree with you, but I'm afraid your outlook is a naive one. I would love to respect and enjoy each game for what it is but, when a simply fan like myself can envision multiple ways in which the game could be better, then there is a problem.

No, but it does make the argument less vague, for example. I didn't hate Oblivion. As a game, it was great. Compared with Morrowind? It was a step backwards, in this one's opinion.

And why should devoted fans be left with disappointment when they could just as easily have complete relish in the fact the game is amazing?

Yeah, that was something that happened to me pending the release of Oblivion. I would see one cool feature, followed by multiple points I disliked, and everyone would tell me "just wait for the game, it's Bethesda, you'll love it". Sure enough, game shipped. Disappointment hit relatively quickly.

I would buy this game if they never released any trailer, game screen shots or gameplay vids. I wanna get the collectors edition, which I hope comes with a regular video game case so I can put it on my shelf next to my other regular game cases.

Yeah, I'm not an idiot. I realize they are not gods and they make mistakes. But from what I have heard about this game, and NOT basing my opinion on the other games in the series, in other words taking it for a new game in the series, I see that the changes are mostly good IMO. I will judge the game more once I have played it, but I'm not going to pointlessly post my opinion so I can hear "Stop praising bethesda"; or if I were to bash the game "Don't judge it yet"

I'd rather just keep my opinion to myself.

I thought New Vegas was a huge improvement, I've logged.. 433 hours on it, thats a crap-load of time because I really enjoyed it.

While it was a huge improvement it still has many of the rudimentary flaws that Fallout 3 had, and wasn't quite a true Fallout game, but was lore-friendly at least. Thankful, unlike Fallout 3, it didn't try to deign itself as a true sequel.

I believe in second chances, but It's evident that most people agree that a lot of stuff implemented in oblivion was garbage (*cough* strict level scaling). it's not far off to assume there might be large faults in Skyrim too. Regardless what Im saying is that I'll still love the crap out of Skyrim even if it is flawed, but I'd like it if were as least flawed as possible. I loved Oblivion, but I would have loved it even more if it didn't have so many glaring gameplay issues, what irks me is so many of them were so utterly stupid, I can't fathom why many of them would have been included (or likewise, certain features removed).

No reason to settle for a so-so product when you can just as easily have an amazing product.

What the lol can one be doing 1000 hours in Oblivion? I played 200+ hours on one single char and I thought I did all that could be done there. Also, while I respect your opinion about Oblivion and Fallout (and you're not the only one, the unofficial Fallout forums were boiling when Fallout 3 came out) I don't quite get it why you need to let Bethesda know that you won't be buying their game. That's redundant, they already know some people buy and some people don't buy it.

Bethesda's fan base is much larger than the ones active in this forum. We who write here are actually in the minority. So if Bethesda had made a Morrowind-like game, they might have made the majority of the people on this forum happy, but it might not have sold as much. The fact is that Oblivion and Fallout 3 was enormously popular and sold a lot of copies. Thus when Bethesda listen to their fans, the ones active here are in the minority of the fans.

I would go hungry for days before I gave up TES V.

My daughter and I drove by the building today - I could almost feel the magic being created. :celebration:

I'll be there at midnight to get my copies (4).

Wow, I would have been tempted to storm the place, hold Todd hostage and demand to see all gameplay content to date :D

Disclaimer - any unbalanced fans, please note this is not a suggestion in any way...thank you.

Not as big of a problem as you may think. Nothing is perfect, including Elder Scrolls. Hindsight is 20/20, they say.. sometimes you dojn't realize something is bad until it's too late. Sometimes you may think you have a good idea, but until you see it in action don't realized something went wrong (things can sometimes come up when real people are actively playing; QA can't catch everything). Last minute troubles can cause you to cut out or tone down what you were really going for.

It is not naive to enjoy each game in the series separately, for what they are. That is how it's supposed to be. If two games are not different enough to enjoy separately, they are not different enough to be two separate games.

I'm pretty much the same actually. I am very Morrowind biased. I respect and love a game for a while then remember how great that game was and go back and play it.

I'd hate to break it to you bud, but whether they read the forums or not is irrelevent. Nothing anyone says or does here will have any impact on the game. That's why most games end up passionately dispised by the original community, after the devellopers don't listen and go off doing some stupid thing or another when the community screamed not to. Our opinions here mean nothing. What means something at the end of the day is if you pony up for the game when it's released.

You're looking for logic in a place where there is none. Besides, I logged probably more than that in my Morrowind files, and perhaps three quarters than in my Oblivion files. Mods take a lot of bug-discovery, which takes a lot of time.

I agree, but this is the best place for Bethesda to listen to their fans, despite being the minority. We get heard, I just don't think other people realize it.
