Thread title : I wonder how much of a fortune Bethesda would make if they remade Morrowind with the Oblivion game engine., Ahem hem, couggh cough, hint hint.

My answer to that would be "not a great deal." I'd say a lot less than they made from Oblivion.

How about using a better game engine

The Gamebryo engine isn't a bad engine... it turned out nicely in Warhammer Online  but for some reason the Bethesda-version of the engine is horribly optimized. So if you ask me they either need to move on to a different engine or spend more time fine tuning the current engine they have.

why they would not do it(a revamp of that scale):
*its not cost effective
*there is not enough fans who will actually buy the game and or the system if they don't have the system yet(like, i don't have an XBOX360 or PS3 ATM)
*there is not enough positive attitude towards it as seem from this topic

Keep it text only though. I'm not a fan of Bethesda's habit of using 5 expensive and famous voice actors for 1000 NPCs. If they did it with the same money using 1000 random people off the street it would be better for my taste, but I don't see that happening.

While I agree with this, I would have no problem with a modernized Morrowind. I haven't bought it, but I would if it used Oblivion's engine. It's like combining the best aspects of the two games.

Isn't there an OpenMW in work? It's supposedly going to make Morrowind's engine open-sourced.

There are two open source Morrowind remakes in development at the moment. Neither of them is very far in the development process though.

You guys can't be telling me that you wouldn't play and thoroughly enjoy a revamped Morrowind...

I play and enjoy a thoroughly modded MW more than Oblivion.
I'd rather they work on making TES V as good (or better) than MW than waste time revamping an extremely playable game.

I'd rather see Oblivion with the Morrowind game engine.

YEAH! Now that'd be interesting!

Aye. Also, the idea of infinitely respawning ashlander bandits who are all the same level as you and equipped in glass and daedric armour frightens me to death.

I would!!!
The only to things that keep me from playing morrowind are the physics and combat. I just cant get over the fact that if I shoot at someone, my arrow will go INTO him or the wall behind him

Nah. An Arena remake would be better.

That would cover the whole of Tamriel, and as such wouldn't feel as detailed imo.

I will remind everyone that discussion of games being made using assets from Bethesda games, or of mods using the assets of one game in another - be they from Bethesda or not, that are made with the intention of sharing are not up for discussion here.

By all means talk about the theory, possibility and ideas.

nah, morrowind is fine as it is, oblivions flying objects exercises could stay in oblivion, pun intended :P

some stuff from oblivion would be nice, like voice actors, but as someone put it,1000?s of random people from the street would be better than a few elite voices.
the other nice stuff in oblivion is already fixed by modders, toggle sneak etc, actually it is one archer mod that I miss in morrowind, duke patrick have one I use, don?t have that in mw,the rest is done with mwe, mwse and ordinary mods with no connection to oblivion resources. edited for clearity.

Ah, OpenMW and DaggerXL... Hopefully they make it all the way to a full release!

Morrowind modding/playing is far from dead, but with OpenMW released the forums would go BOOM!

It doesn't make any sense imo.

If they should remake anything, it should be Daggerfall. Morrowind already looks perfectly fine, even without mods. Sure, it's very dated, but you can get used to the graphics.

I don't want Bethesda to fall into that cycle of remakes so many other developers fall into. Bethesda would make more money with a brand new game than a re-hashed version of Morrowind.

Besides, Vvardenfell has been completely covered in lava and ash due to the events before The Infernal City. Vvardenfell, and everything in that was in the game Morrowind, is gone. It wouldn't make sense to remake a destroyed island. Bethesda needs to focus on the future of the series.

We're sorry, but we lost the source code to Daggerfall Morrowind while cleaning the offices. It would be impossible to remake the game or port it to new platforms.

I think they would make more money if they used a different engine to the oblivion engine..

Or if they just made a different TES game. Morrowind wasnt the RPG to end all RPG's like some people seem to think, I was largely unimpressed.

I was hoping for a PS2 release of Morrowind.... wishful thinking I know, might have been popular. Not a fortune maker though

The last thing we need is another game using Gamebryo, especially a game that needs no remaking to begin with. New engine, new games please.
