I wonder if they are going to release Daggerfall as a free download.

They released Arena at the 10th anniversary. It been over 10 years since Daggerfall was released.

Or I wonder if they will wait to release it until just before they announce TES V, maybe to garner attention.

They won't, because releasing Daggerfall would just make the subequent Elder Scrolls games look like dross by comparison. :biglaugh:

LOL. I don't think that Beth would have anything to lose by rereleasing Daggerfall, it would probably help peeps realize how much better Morowind and Oblivion is.

Daggerfall was the largest and most elaborate game in the franchise.

I've got this nagging feeling that I played Daggerfall once as a kid...or at least a demo.
Help me out here.
I'm remembering an old school RPG, first person, and the Character creation process was elaborate. At one point you had to answer questions about what you would do in certain situations. I remember one like:
You are walking back from school and 3 boys stop you and tell you to give them candy. Do you:
A ) Give them the candy
B ) Run away
C ) Tell them "Sure" throw the candy up in the air and punch the leader of the boys in the face

And your answers had an effect on your personality, skills etc etc. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Daggerfall maybe?

a lot of people ask this, but the answer is unlikely to change.

Beth has no plans to re-release the old games. If you want DF you need to buy off ebay/amazon etc.

That line of questioning sounds like Morrowind.

Definitly wasnt morrowind. this was old school, old school like cardboard 2D graphics. Similar to some of the old Arena or Daggerfall gameplay videos I've seen on youtube.
Maybe I'll start a topic with the above description and see if anyone recognizes it. Its really been nagging at me!

Actually, it is both from Morrowind and Daggerfall. (And maybe Arena too? Can't remember...)

So I believe you did play Daggerfall, yes.

Yeah, it was one of the moral questions from Morrowind. It was -

7. While in town, the baker gives you a sweetroll. Delighted, you take it into an allyway to enjoy, only to be intercepted by a gang of three other kids your age. The leader demands the sweetroll, or else he and his friends will beat you and take it.

Act like you are going to give him the sweetroll, but at the last minute throw it in the air, hoping that they'll pay attention to it for you to get a shot in on the leader?
Give him the sweetroll now without argument, knowing that later this afternoon you will have all your friends with you and can come and take whatever he owes you?
Drop the sweetroll and step on it, then get ready for the fight?

Bethesda have said they have no plans to release Daggerfall for free.

It WAS one of the moral questions from Morrowind, but those questions were recycled from Daggerfall.

So yeah, you played the Daggerfall demo as a kid.

Daggerfall is rated M. If that does not appeal to you, you are encouraged to keep silence unless you can give a substantive reason why it would have played better or sold better at a different rating.

Okay, thanks. I'll stop looking forward to it then. :)

BTW, what was it rated M for?

Disturbing content, cartoon nudity. The usual reasons for an M rating.

pixelated nudity at it's worse. Duke Nukem was worse, anyone can draw the nudity in Daggerfall, like a child's drawing.
As for disturbing content, we live in a world full of disturbing people and disturbing events. Anyone with knowledge of history could tell you the horrific events that occured in China during WWII.

Definitely NOT considering it. does NOT appeal to me at all.

On what grounds, I wonder. Frankly, I can't imagine it being dismissed out of hand by anyone who liked MW or OB. It's no more disturbing than Dagoth-Ur jumping around like a capuchin monkey, and nudity-wise you won't see anything nature didn't give us (granting that a seducer's wings are "natural" only with a broad definition of the word).

Well, there's quite a lot of heads lying around, and in some dungeons there are piles of naked corpses.

Mmm... http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/Jormungandr83/DFIMG/DFGore.gif.

Although, if I had to make a guess, I'd say it's by far the nudity that is balking our friend here rather than the violence. People are just like that. Blood and gore OK, tasteful nudity bad.

truth be told, the nudity in daggerfall was more tacky than tasteful. not as bad as battlespire though, it seemed as though the dev team added nudity because they were obsessed with T&A rather than to add to atmosphere. Afterall, the men in the game were no where near as 'exotic' or suggestive. at least the nudity was mostly contained.

gore was really common in computer games of that era. it really shouldn't be of no surprise.

Well, at least it was in appropriate places, at least. Dancers in temples, prosttutes in tavernrooms, etc.
