WOO-SAH, WOO-SAH. Relax, reflect, chill the **** out!

Post » Fri Apr 29, 2011 11:48 am

I would like to begin this thread by saying i have been a fan of TES since i picked up my first copy of Morrowind. Im relatively new to the forums as a member, but i started coming here as a guest to read and get updatedes in anticipation of Oblivion about six months prior to release. I would say that im moderately familiar with how things work around here and i know and recognize how extremely dedicated some of us are about this game, some of us i must say, are a little too dedicated, and thats what motivated me to start this topic. Now, I am not a psychiatrist or a doctor of mental health, but my human intuition and common sense tell me that some( way more than just a few) of you are what proffesionals would decribe as " Freaking Nut Jobs!!!" What i dont understand, and someone please try to explain, is how an idividual can become so completely and personally attached and defensive about a game. Granted, i will recognize that TES is no ordinary game. Also i do understand just how some people get such great RP value from this game. I personally have never found myself as immersed in any other game ive ever played. This is the game that i dreamt of playing when i wad a child. Now with that out of the way, the disussion i would like to see in this thread is as follows:

Who else thinks that some people take the upcoming release of Skyrim and the things they would like implemented way too personally and seriously to the point that you seriously feel sorry for some of them. And why is it that some think that they literally know whats best and will be actually hurt if certain things ie: "Spears" dont make it in game. Something like this will literally ruin thier lives.... Also, what would you say to them to bring them back to reality?

Personally, my response is: "Dude/Dudette, I am nobody to judge or disrepect you and what you are into, but seriously, take a step back and read some of the stuff you say to people who are new to this forum or started a thread that may have already been posted, or even made a simple opinion that you flamed them for. If those thing you said to them were flames solely to say that your opinion has more weight than joe blow TES player. Please seek help before your brain implodes when u finally realize...if u ever realize that your happiness is revolving around animated entertainment.."

I don't think anyone is saying that "Guys, if Skyrim doesn't turn out exactly as I want it, my life will be over."

I mean, how dare they get excited over an up-coming game in their favorite series? I have yet to read a single post that fits what you're talking about.

If Skyrim doesn't completely rock my life, I'm going to kill myself.

No, I'm not kidding. I'll go ahead and off myself if Skyrim doesn't measure up to what I'd expect it to be.

My life is literally riding on this game, so yeah forgive me if I'm a bit obsessive about every thing that will be implemented.

I think your point about the flammers flaming about how ones opinion is wrong, or that a certain thread has already. Been posted. I mean they have to realize that not everyone is on the forum ALL the time.

People are going to be enthusiastic. People who found things in Oblivion that they didn't care for, especially if they couldn't use mods, are going to be extremely interested in the aspects of the game that they wanted changed in Oblivion.

If there is any flaming, it should be reported.

Other than that, as long as the post isn't breaking any forum rules, or there aren't already multiple threads on the same subject on the first page, people can post what they want.

Even another thread about spear-wielding, beard-wearing, rideable dragons, with pauldrons, pulling carriages.

[For the record, I usually play female characters, so beards aren't important to me, but I do hope that pauldron slots are back. I do use fast travel, but don't mind if others don't want to do that. I don't really want dragon mounts, unless it is mounted as a trophy in my great hall...]

the thing that bugs me about this is that if you go back and use a thread thats old you run the risk of being flamed as a necro its a catch 22

I haven't seen it often, only 2 or three times since this section of the forums has opened, but I do agree with you about people freaking out over every aspect of the game.

However flaming new or ill-informed members is something that happens much more frequently, really people should watch how they treat others, inform them don't blast them.

Make an on topic post that contributes to the topic, and raising a dead thread isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Necroing a thread to say "Me too." is probably going to get it locked.

I'm going to kill myself with an axe to the face, which will be difficult to be sure, if the game doesn't come out exactly as I have envisioned.

There's [censored] and flaming on every game forum, but thankfully, this is actually one of the more mature game forums I've been to. I've seen much worse.

Edit: Why is f a n b o y censored? I never thought that term to be all that offensive.

yea thats the mature reaction to some one bringing back a long dead thread.

it just seems to me that sometimes on here (and countless other forums) that people try to act out an authority or comanding presance, if you will, over others that they generaly cant portray irl.

most of the issues dont seem to me as if they are your idea is stupid but rather more of a your stupid and you have an idea nature. if you know what i mean.

i havent been the object of a flamethrower (so far) so maybe i have a skewed perception.

I.think the op means the people who think their opinion should be the only opinion and like their better than people . I've even seen posted "your opinion is invalid" more than once. But not in any real high numbers.

also " why even discuss this spam thread as its not going to get into the game" even though the majority liked it . I thought discussing things is what the forum was for

That you have no knowledge of psychology isnt a bad thing.
But there are two major factors that account for what you are stating.
Transferrance and sublimation.
Look them up:)

For me personally both factors play into account.
Transferrance because I never played a game like Morrowind before and I transfer my delight at that to every game after, including irrationally attacking anything I see as incongruous to how I perceive perfection.
And sublimation because I have pooled all I feel about gaming in general to my held standard, Morrowind.

What makes me sentient is that I am aware of how my mind plays me.
Is everyone else, I wonder.

I agree. This topic is pretty unnecessary. You have your opinion of the game and others have theirs.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and if expressed politely, and opinion is presented as such, rather than as fact, everyone has a right to post those opinions on this forum. If you think guys are getting a bit crazy now, go to community discussion, read 'Ten years on this forum', things seem calm and sensible compared to some points in the past.
Or try some other forums, the moderators here actually do their jobs, and the discussion here seems intelligent and sensible compared to anywhere else I have looked, rudeness and arrogance seem endemic, and these forums seem to me like almost like an island of tranquility in a sea of insults and bragging.

Don't we all feel like the OP on this subject sometimes? I mean even irl we sometimes think everyone must be stupid, don't we?

When we get these feelings however, we are the ones who should relax.

Don't be so hard on him. You probably wanted to say this yourself at one time or another.

Why should having a female character stop you from having a beard. I use to play a bearded lady mage on ultima online. Good times, people always had a very strong reaction to it.

I don't get it. I read it 3 times, what is the OP really trying to say? All I get from it is we are either wierd because we are so passionate about TES like it was a family member or something and we shouldn't?
