Wood Chopping. Am I missing something?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:41 pm

lol your not chopping wood you are splitting it. For those who don't know chunk of wood vertical= splitting, chunk of wood horrizontal=chopping. On the pc i just give my self gold for running the mill with console commands, same with using the grinding stone for grain.

I've never chopped wood. I've used the big saw that splits the logs though. Funnily enough, NPCs are always chopping wood when i go to do it, or i can't find an axe anywhere nearby. I don't really think it's necessary at all, i've made plenty of money without it.

OMG, this is pathetic: I'm chopping wood in the game on a new character without visuals. :o I've got the TV on the, well, TV and I'm on here on the computer monitor. I going by sound vial surround speakers and muscle memory for 'aiming' at the chopping block.

The saw mill is for role playing.

Thats it... Not that hard to explain.

Now if anybody can tell me the reasons for the mills I will be happy,
Yes I saw the manual operated ones as a personal Easter egg.
I thought sure it was for making bone meal or powdered mammoth tusk. No such luck. The mill owner would probably be ticked if I mixed various bone parts in the grain mill too.

Actually chopping (splitting) wood is quite profitable. When my character doesn't want to travel in the dark she'll stop at a mill and work till the owner gets up. Makes about 1500 - 1800 a night. Since you could buy a decent house in four days, that equates to about 50,000 usd a day in our current economy.

It does the animation 3 times (so 6 pieces of firewood) then it cancels it.
Use a follower to cut wood for you. They'll do it 'til you stop them.

Faendal splits three (3) logs, same as me. How do you automate him?

If you are watching the animation, you are doing it wrong.

You tell your follower to chop the wood, then you walk away and come back later to collect the profits.

He splits 3 logs and quits. I can't stand over him supervising him all day!

"Is that it?"

Yeah, what he said.

wow...who actually came up with the term *spamming* , it sounds very american.

When used in context to describe posts like yours Yes, it was an American who coined the term. The joke the term refrences though, comes from the Brits! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(electronic)#Etymology

If you use the Arrowsmith mod, you need firewood to craft arrows.

Spoiler
is there any special use for the Woodcutters best friend axe, or something, laying around next to a body and some logs in the woods somewhere, forgot where, only stumbled on it once.
Not really related, only used a chopping block once, when i just started made like a three hits, and dropped the wood again, weighed to much and went on. sometimes i hear if your looking for work, go chop some wood or the likes, but i remember the weight/value of wood and go like, i make more from selling jewelry and other loot, can cary more of those, some other time perhaps. Wich basicly means never.
But now i hear people here talking bout 3k+ in a few minutes? is that wood chopping really that lucrative?

Not from experience. A 'few' minutes might be somewhere around the area of 3, in which you'd probably make about 450 gold or so.

useful if you have just started... you are busy doing something else and you can press "activate" every time your guy chops 3 blocks

I did this once while reading & facebooking for a good while... made enough cash to buy armour to start out with... but ultimately its just immersive money making (that's how all the other npc's live... hard work for little pay) you don't mind risking your life and killing bandit's and worse... making FAR more gold...

kinda makes sense, rewarded for courage... but as your safe in your armchair pressing buttons to swing a sword and block a blow that wouldn't hurt you if it landed anyway.... kinda defeats the object of having a "safe money maker"

Probably more to do with your character dying because s/he is weak rather than actual physical harm. :P
