Wood Elf - Height issue

Post » Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:58 pm

I chose Wood Elf because I wanted to go down the sneak/Archer route - I didn't realise they are about 5'0 and you are constantly being looked down upon.

I chose "no" it doesn't bother me at all. It's part of the character.

But if you want to look down your nose (literally and figuratively) at all the other playable races then Altmer is the way to go!

Not at all - I have a lot of serious issues regarding the way Beth has been addressing races, and visuals / physicals are not among them.

They look the most unique but I find it slightly hard playing something so un-human like.

It doesn't bother me at all, even though I do notice it all the time. I'm really short in real life, so I'm used to it. :P

Nope. Cranky, picky bastard that I am, character height in a game doesn't come anywhere near bothering me.

I can't exactly relate to it, being average height myself (5 '8. More like a Breton?) It begins to bother me after a while, but not enough to stop playing or anything.

My first playthrough was with an Imperial (they're I'd say about average height too, I'd say. 5 '10 or so) so things looked okay. Only when I made wood elf, and nord characters did I realize that the whole world changes...

I still don't understand why the Male Bosmer is shorter then the female Bosmer. I don't mind that the Bosmers are Midgets as that can be handy at times.

yes, wonder if it's a bug, the female have standard height or close to, usually the ladies are smaller. Anyway height difference is pretty minor.

Just for the record I am of average height myself in real life (About 5,9) and the only part the wood elf height bothers me is when you are talking to an NPC.

Seeing that female Bosmer have a height of 1.0, which is to say average, I never noticed any issue.

On the other hand playing an Altmer and being seven feet tall drove me nuts, to the point of modding the game to be shorter.

I don't mind the shortness and wouldn't want it to be changed at all. It's part of the race and it's partly what makes Bosmer unique. I wouldn't want to remove the Altmer's height either.

I would be severely upset if they made male Bosmer taller. that the point of them. I love being extremely short, fast and nimble.

Im a taller dude 6ft 3 and yeah I dont like to play as smaller races. Its just odd. However I do find that if your an archer the Bosmer have the advantage of being able to line up on small creatures faster.

My first thought is that the female Bosmer had to evolve larger than the male to protect the young, given the predisposition toward cannibalism amongst the tree-folk. But that theory flies out the window when you consider that the sixes start with equal strength, and the male has more endurance.

Maybe they were just made shorter to increase the annoyance factor of Maglir, Glarthir, and the Annoying Fan.

I voted no, btw.

Playing an Altmer was a weird experience, and I have to say I didn't like being that tall. :P I mean, the way you have to look down to activate stuff and talk to NPCs is just... odd. Especially after playing almost solely Wood Elves and some modded races that are also quite short. It feels weird being the tallest person in almost any room. That honestly bothered me more than the Wood Elf shortness, though not to the point of not playing anymore.

... maybe because I'm like 5'2 in real life, but still!

I love the fact that they're short.

While I always got the impression Bethesda had the wood elves as something of joke characters, they're my favourite elven race. They have some very obvious strengths (speed archery), and are also fun to play with. The game world somehow underestimates them all the time. It's why, I think, ones like the Ungolim are extra cool.

Yeah wood elves are awesome when it comes to stealth type characters, so I find the shortness to fit right in. It makes me feel legitimately sneaky being 5'5" in the shadows and silent as all get-out!!

It also makes me feel more comfortable picking the pockets of rich altmer, thinking; "HAHA! they'll nevarr see me down heere!!" :P

This. My character is a she-Bosmer, but I have tweaked her height down to 0.9 so it matches that of her Bosmeri brothers.

She's not short. Everyone else is simply tall.

We actually quite like having to hop up onto rocks to see any distance in the tall grass. :P

I don't use bosmer, but not for that reason. At the moment, I'm playing as an ainmhe which are as small as bosmer.
Doesn't bother me or her. Her enemies all know that being small is even better if your a dual wielding whirlwind of death.

I like the height differences, it makes it so much cooler when my little Breton beats the life out of an ogre =D

The Bosmer are cannibals, thanks to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Green_Pact. It prevents them from eating any vegetable, or using wood or any other vegetable matter. One of Beth's more silly ideas for a forest people.

I didn't know that about Bosmers. The cannibalism thing actually makes them a little cooler in my books. Not that I'm a cannibal, or endorse cannibalism myself... :whistling:

Nah, my character is an Argonian, and the only other character I had was Kajit (sp?). In fact, I was only Kajit for a while and I kept interacting with Argonians and thinking "man, these guys are awesome...I totally should've been argonian!", so that's exactly what I did. I definitely lean more toward the "creature" races much more than the humanoids, and most elves are too human for me (though dark elves are pretty cool).

That said, I don't think I'd have any trouble playing a shorter race even though I'm personally 6'4".
