All the characters look a bit shady if you ask me. It may be that they've just developed them like that.

I'm considering going for a aristocratic looking Altmer at this rate!

All Mer look similar. in every game, you can point out the similarities. they meant to do this. In OB, dark elves face shape looks similar to all the other Mer.

This.

Lol.

The Ripten Bosmer has light/grey skin (colored red from ambient lighting). Dunmer sometimes has grey skin. It's not the same exactly, but it's a little close.

However, skin color is just one thing. There are many other things to consider. Like... red eyes, Dunmer cheekbones, Dunmer narrowed eyes, tattoo which Dunmer usually have in face, Dunmer hairstyle.

In short, if it wasn't confirmed that the Ripten Bosmer was a Bosmer and not a Dunmer, a lot of people would have thought it was a Dunmer, which was actually the case. TONS of people thought it was a Dunmer, and the journalist himself thought so as well, despite it being a Bosmer.

Lol.

There is absolutely no way the lighting could take grey skin and make it look that fleshy colored. It's not even close.

All elves have similar facial features except for orcs, and it's been confirmed for a while that there would be facial tattoos (with no mention of racial limitations). I don't see why a mohawk should be limited to dark elves. The eyes look like the dark, large iris, reddish chestnut color that http://www.gamebanshee.com/morrowind/races/woodelffemale.jpg had in http://www.indolents.com/morrowind/chapter2/1-revengeoffargoth.png. They're taking a step back from Oblivion's terrible art style and improving on morrowind's.

Tons of people have never calibrated their monitor before. The journalist needs to have his eyes checked. Maybe if people thought the facial tattoo was the actual skin tone, and the rest of the skin was some sort of bleach tattoo. But then it would look like a redguard-mer.

In all fairness, most races looked ridiculous and annoying in Oblivion...

Fair enough.

Pocahontas parody because they vaguely resemble native Americans (which I think is what you mean)?

No.

snip

You can keep say that to yourself, but I, the journalist who played the game more than you've seen Skyrim totally, and tons of other people still think that the "Ripten Bosmer" looks a lot like a Dunmer

I personally don't mind it, as I think it's awesome that the Bosmer looks like my favourite race - Dunmer. Thus, I now perhaps have two favourite races!

You realize Europeans and the rest of the world were just as tribal as Native Americans at one point right? It wasn't until the low tech culture and high tech culture clashes with Africans and the Middle Easterns through which Italian and Greek city states rose and harshly(read:violently) brought "civilization" to Western Europeans that we get the current caucasian people.

So no it wouldn't be a pocahontas parody as then everyone would be making fun of themselves.

People need to check their eyes and monitors...

Dunmer are gray-blue. GRAYISH BLUE.
NOT BROWN!

Funny thing is, this isn't the first time they've claimed Dunmer on something with slightly darker skin color...

Sure

Bosmer are woodland dwellers, not ashland-dwellers or island-dwellers. Valenwood is the wildest of the provinces and one of the least developed, I'd imagine that sunlight doesn't even touch the forest floor in most places. They're coppery skinned to meld in the shadows, along with having mated with humans in the distant past. You also have to remember that wood elves share a lot with Amazonian tribes in their concepts; both having tan to dark copper skin, both practice ritual cannibalism, lives in the forests etc.

It also bears to be repeated that this is all based on how you perceive and create your character. If these Bosmer are too dark to you, make them paler.

As bad as this thread is, It's going to be nothing in comparison to the ImperialvsBrentonvsNord comparisons...

Plus that Redguard pic is really a Nord in full body paint.

I agree. Bosmer males are probably comparable to my short height of 5' 4" and that Bosmer just looks like he would kick my ass, snap my arms, and rip off my head with absolutely no problems regarding my own futile attempts to fight back... and I'm not an incredibly weak, skin-and-bones person. My build is more normal. I'm not incredibly weak, but I'm not a body-builder. Having arms as thick as that Bosmer's would be incredibly annoying. I don't think movement would be something my arms would be capable of.

But aren't bosmer more burly than other elves? All that time eating meat(and each other), pulling bowstrings, climbing trees, and swinging vines would give them some killer arms.

Those arms just look impossible... unless Bosmer are now much taller than they were in the past, they're on steroids, or they've of an anatomy a bit more alien to a human's than I thought.

Well, Bosmer should have more of a "ripped" muscle definition than other elven races, but not as well built like a human race. The Bosmer in exhibit A just looks ridiculous.

I think we're seeing a small carryover from Oblivion's problems with races. Various races share one body type, but only differ in height. The result are "fat little Bosmer/santa elves", as people put it. They don't get thinner or less muscular to accommodate shorter height, so they look disproportionately weird.

I think they're just stocky or something. Bosmer( at least the men) have always been short and built. In the book http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:A_Dance_in_Fire#Chapter_3, one Bosmer is described having the arms of a horse or ox. Another is described to be very short. Too be fair, they're not human; and they can become monsters if their home is threatened.

I think another thing to factor in is how all of these characters look similar for a reason, Beth doesn't want to give to much away.
