Woodcutting And Labour

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 12:44 am

So Judging on the fact that everyone needs a little cash, and that not everyone can do an indiana jones on some dungeon to gain wealth, there are some production activities.
smithing, Alchemy and Enchanting are all official skills, but what about woodcutting, how do you do that?
so bassically just post things that you could do for coin, or theories on how the four confirmed activities will happen!

for example: you may get a job in a tavern as a bard, perhaps you will have to buy an instrument to do the job, and a "Guitar Hero" like minigame pops up and you get cash depending on how welll you do..

Guitar hero minigame makes me think fable 3 jobs. No thank you. However I'm not a big fan of minigames so I may be a bit bias.

I should imagine we will be able to cut down certain trees, most probably near cities. They will most probably respawn over time though otherwise the player could wipe out all the trees in the game O_O

hmmm.... I see your point but if not a minigame, then it will essentialyy become travveleing to a work place, putting your console/computer on sleep, going a way and coming back to a massive fortune, no point really.

Woodcutting is probably about obtaining wood for smithing and less about making money.

And you know making staffs that you can later enchant.

Maybe wood for paper as well? Cause then you can enchant scrolls to use spells on the fly instead of having to equip them?

It would be nice to be able to cut (and even burn) some trees I think, it could be more realistic.
But only if they respawn or new trees would grow up there in some time.

Ima going to build myself a cottage in the middle of the woods.... maybe near a stream. Ima gonna cut me down some good ol logs to help do it :P

It would be cool if you could make a house using woodcutting although it probably won’t be in the game. Besides, those pesky dragons might burn it down again :(

wow the paper thing is actually a pretty good idea, maybe you could have grimoires as well as scrolls ( they'de be a large container of spells, the scrolls would be the pages though

maybe you could get contracts from a lumber yard.... ( like a guild)
e.g. you must collect 20 sacred grove saplings for an alchemist, after clearing the grove of a spriggan nest...

Scrolls and Grimoires would have to have charges though or they'd be pointless thanks to soul gems, yet they'd probably be once a day to prevent them from compeletely taking over using real magic.

Personally, I think woodcutting will work somewhat like alchemy. You cut the trees and the "inventory" of the tree is opened and you can collect the wood. The tree model stays the same and will restock after a while. Same with ore veins. The only difference between Skyrim and Oblivion is that you will now finally see an actual animation for it, and not just an instant "open container" silliness.

Hope you're right though, that'd be a much cooler feature.

No minigames. They are from the deadra. Remove the minigame aspect of them and thank you I'll take that job as a blacksmith.

I'd be fine with minigames, that's how they did jobs in Fable 2 and it worked fine. If they don't do it that way they'd have to make you get essentially NOTHING from it because it'd be too easy

no minigames please... I really hope everything takes place in real time. If I want to go woodcutting, I'm expecting to equip an axe and chop some wood by hacking it, it's that simple

the "minigame" i'd really want to see in skyrim would be....a good old fashioned tavern brawl, a npc insults someone (or you do it yourself) they break into a fight and it soon escalates into a bar brawl where everyone in the tavern starts fighting each other (except kids and old women or maids, they hide or get out of the tavern)
the fighting only depletes stamina, once depleted the character will pass out.

objective: be the last one standing
reward: minor fame gain among the villagers

Spare time? What Spare time?

I plan on killing goblins and hoarding phat l00t.

If I have spare time, the game developers aren't doing something right.

.....you need something to burn in order to smith anything. Coal hasn't been all that present in TES before, so you'd use wood. You chop timber, take it to the furnace, start a fire, heat it up using the billows until you've got an intensely hot blaze, then melt the metal. I don't see why you thought he was talking about making a weapon with smithing tools out of wood.....

Guys that plan on killing non-stop, remember players like myself would like to make money doing stuff like chopping wood. Not all players are wanting to do nothing but kill, some actually want to emmerse themselves in this world.
