If you have done woodcutting yourself, you know how.

In the game the wood you are supposed to cut will magically appear infinite, a la Fable I guess.

Like in Fable, you don't cut down trees. Only logs appear. Infinite.

I'm guessing log cutting works as a side quest. The mill owner might tell you he's short on help and can provide you information pertaining to something else if you help him. Just a guess though.

I think the jobs were originally added in to make the NPCs more lifelike, and Bethesda decided to give the option to the PC to do the jobs just to add some variety.

To be honest, if they can't do something like woodcutting right (i.e. allowing the player to walk up to a tree or a piece of wood and chop at it in real-time with no changes in camera angle) then they should of just left it out altogther. Making a Fable-esque mini-game out of it just makes the gameworld feel that little bit less believeable.

I am going to do it all. I think early on in the game it will help earn some extra money.

As I said, it's mainly to add things for NPCs to do so they don't just stand around accomplishing nothing like in Morrowind.

I'm absolutely fine with that. But if they're going to allow the player to perform such tasks, they shouldn't make a mini-game out of it. Not in this kind of game.

Not at all. It's a fun little diversion that adds more flavor to the world. Not every single mechanic needs to be revolutionary. Thanks Beth for putting it in.

It works that you need an axe, a log, and start chopping untill dawn, then go home, eat your wife's dinner, sleep, and do it again and again and again untill you become very rich, buy all Skyrim, defeat Alduin and bam.

And then you put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars.
