DT... Words cannot express my dissatisfaction.

Post » Mon Dec 01, 2008 6:19 pm

I hate the DT system. Anyone with a decant armor rating (as an NPC) is nearly invincible;
but when they shoot at me - I die very quickly, even with 10 END and 20 DT.

Best example is I was testing weapons at camp golf (save & load) vs NCR rangers w/black armor.
I brought a sniper rifle, mysterious magnum, knock, knock, and assault carbine.
- I also brought .308 JSP, .44 SWC, and 5MM AP.
- - All are useless. None would penetrate the armor.
- - - 3-4 mags to the face before they die.

The only effective weapon I used was the knock knock w/power attacks - WHY does an AXE do more DAM than a .308 RIFE? HMMMM?!
My other character used a riot shotgun w/shotgun surgeon & slugs. Only moderately effective.

My new idea is to make a new Vegas viking. 10 STR, 10 END, Sub-dermal armor, toughness X2, Phoenix implant, Power Armor;
Knock Knock/Oh Baby & Riot Shotgun (slugs & shotgun Surgeon).

Eric the Red is back.

AP rounds + ratslayer, + 10 luck, and critical perks + 80 in guns + [hidden] status + veteran ranger = me with a new armour and AM rifle.

Playing Very Hard right? It isnt DT, VH ruins any semblence of realism, all enemies become bullet sponges.

Thats the only thing VH in any game does. This should be expected when doing it in New vegas too.

Honestly, DT seems alright with me.

Nothing is messed up that I noticed, It takes two rounds to the face with some weapons on Hard for me, so maybe it's just VH.

It's crap, it shouldn't make the PC weaker. There should be 2 difficulty sliders, one for PC weapon power and NPC weapon power.

Yep it was on Normal. I have no problems with most enemies. Just Very heavily armored enemies.
I wish DT would cap at 15- so AP rounds would actually penetrate armor.
Not just have heavily armored opponents laugh in your face when you pump a full mag of AP rounds into them.

Well, it is heavy armor for a reason.

Yes, a sneak critical will do the job - and I have played sneaky builds before, and they work quite well.
But try that outside of sneak mode, and see how many bullets a ranger can soak.

I may just have to build an assassin again - my last one cleared out the entire BOS compound using a silenced 12.7 mm pistol.
Single shot to the head killed BOS paladins.

Whats funny is, when I killed them and picked up their armor- It was in such terrible condition there is no way they would have been able to absorb that much DAM/-DT from my bullets.
The game must have granted them a higher DT than what their armor actually does.
The armor/ helmet combined only had 14 DT it was in such bad condition, and they still soaked all my DAM from JSP or AP.

That's weird. I use a mod that removes the "20% of damage goes trough in any case" property of DT and haven't encountered any difficult enemies. Though there was a time when i unloaded a full minigun clip to a man in power armor, who just stood there unscathed with "Srsly? :dry: " look on his face :lmao: LMG with AP ammo took him down easily, however.

So thoughts? Who would be a better build?
Eric the Red, or Ezio Auditore?

I dont like NPCs having unnatural DT, the PC doesnt unless he takes Toughness, Maybe the Rangers have that perk and implants

I might have to get 70 medicine and take the living anatomy perk, just to see their HP/DT.
And find out if the game is cheating.

Agreed. I was pumping repair, survival, and melee for the perks. That's what I get for neglecting my Guns skill.
