"Work" Topic Missing?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:39 pm

Due to a mod, the "work" topic while taling to NPCs is missing. This means I cannot complete missions like Gateway Haunting or Larrius Varro Tells a Story. I'd show you my load order, but I don't know how. Can anyone help?

First, try this. Open the console and type AddTopic "work"
(see if that allows the Topic to function, just in case)

To get your Load Order, open Wrye Mash and go to the Saves tab.
Highlight your Save file, then right-click the File header in the bottom right box. Select "Copy List"
Then Paste in a word doc, or here.

Mlox also can make a copy for you.

If you don't have Mash or Mlox, you can find your mods listed at the bottom of your Morrowind.ini file (although just in alphabetical order)

Hmm, until someone can point a particular mod, you can make your own little investigation in a while. For example, open *all* your .esp's (but not .esm's) at the same time in MWEDIT. Then find the topic "work" and check which NPC uses it. Then make a regular file search for that NPC's name in .esp's, and you'll very likely get a short list of candidates - maybe even a single file immediately.

(You can exclude all LGNPC mods from your list - they are safe in this regard.)

The "work" topic never works (heh heh) in my game either. I can't imagine how it would effect the topic, but the only mod you and I have in common is LCV scheduler.

Anyway, if you add the topic in the console as Pluto suggested, the toipic still will likely not work or be highlighted in the greeting portion of the NPC dialogue box. It will be listed down there near the bottom of the topics, and it should work from there. Or at least, that's how it comes out for me.

I seem to remember that when a mod deletes a dialogue topic from the game there's an error message on first load. Try starting a new game (just to the first bit, no need to actually save it) and see if any message pops up about something deleting the topic.

it's a bloodmoon.esm 'bug'.

bloodmoon adds the topic 'some work' which screws up those other topics, since the sentence that introduces the 'work' topic happens to have it worded in the sentence as 'some work' in vanilla morrowind. i think the MPP fixed it by rewording the vanilla morrowind sentences to just say 'work' instead of 'some work', but it looks like the MPP is no longer around. :shrugs:

it's one of those engine bugs that modders just have to work around. looks like the devs didn't get it right either.

The MPP can still be found http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:UMP

(not sure why it was removed from PES)
