If you know please share on this thread for the hopefulls who wish to work there!

Get a portfolio together. Show them that you can actually do the work they want. Diplomas won't necessarily get you into the position.

Todd Howard has said a few times that Bethesda takes into consideration your portfolio over any degree you may have. Of course, this is a standard practice in the video game industry, as well as animation and any form of media really. If you walk in with a stunning portfolio and no degree and the only other applicant has a degree but a standard or sub-par portfolio, you're getting the job.

So while a degree certainly isn't necessary to actually get a job, a degree is very helpful in becoming experienced enough to make the portfolio that will get you that job. Not necessary, but very helpful.

I live in NC right now and I live 6 hours and 39 minutes (yeah i map quested it) away from Rockville, MD studios and they need a programmer (http://jobs.zenimax.com/index.php?a=view_job&jobid=19) so considering they still need one in a couple of years I hope i can get it :P

I'm doing a games design degree at the moment, I too have heard that a good portfolio beats a degree, but unless you're unusually skilled at whatever it is you want to do you should probably look at a degree to improve your skills.

I could answer with those same words. So true.

But learning teamwork skills and skills what are required to work on game projects is also important. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrum_%28development%29 method is quite good, we have been using that about year on our projects.

Personally, while a job at Bethesda would be very awesome, I am not much of a designer. Although something like Network Engineer/Computer Technician would be an awesome position.

Edit-Also I find it sort of funny that one of the requirements for being a network administrator at Zenimax is this.

Ability to lift 75 lbs

I'm doing a bachelor in game design at the moment, and everything we do will be added to our portfolios, basically we're allowed to keep anything we make at uni as our own to help us get jobs later on, which is nice.

EDIT: We'll be using Scrum next year as well.

Maybe sometimes part of your job is to lug big servers and racks & whatever else to another room or office. :whistling:
