A World of Pain would be excellent if balanced better

I love what A World of Pain adds in the areas of new places to explore - in fact, it feels the way FO:NV should have been - a lot of epic quests but also with lots of LARGE places to explore - it fixes this issue nicely.

Unfortunately, it adds so much loot and high end guns at much to early a place in the game that it ruins all balance (and this is with low loot version).

I also believe it adds zombies to the Strip?!?!?! But am not sure it is this mod.

I'm probably going to uninstall b/c I prefer long-running games where the mods feels seamless with the rest of the world.

But I had to post, b/c this mod is so close to being EPIC!

I messaged the creator - but I realize they probably have no desire to rebalance it or change it, and that is totally understandable given the amount of work they already did....

But I couldn't resist posting this in the slim hopes it might generate enough interest to lead the modder to offer a better balanced version for 'purists'

I understand and partially agree with your point. I had a LMG before reaching Nipton :D

Still, i think that if i can survive the fight, i've earned those weapons. And just having the weapon isn't enough, you need to keep it fixed and fed with ammo, a LMG uses common ammo, but is very difficult to find spare parts for, and expensive to have Old Lady Gibson fix it :D

Actually, I think the low loot version is still going revisions, though it just doesn't seem like it. You can tell right at the bottom of the description, under one of the FAQ's:

Q: Why are there so many skill books?
A: The extra skill books up for grabs were interntional in order to initaite a quicker start to the game. I don't like feeling like I have to go through the same motions every time I play the game so a lot of extra stuff is there (skill books especially) so you can get out of Goodsprings earlier. There should be 2 of every book (max +8 skill) apart from repair where I think there are 3 (max +12).
A smaller total bouns than the FO3 Bobbleheads and mostly better defended.
Also skill books were incredebly rare in New Vegas where they could account for neraly half of your gained stats in FO3.
I should point out there are no skill books yet in The Underground sectors and will be significantly less of them as you travel north. This may seem a little counter-intiuative but I have arranged them like this for two reasons. First for a quicker start and second becuase I wanted those areas to be the most difficult in the game.
The current low loot version has one less skill book, though due to requests the next one will only feature about half the current amount of total skillbooks.
EDIT: There are now a few of the rarer skill books knocking around in The Underground. I noticed there were more of some than others in total and now it should be more balanced.

So yeah, it's definitely not as "Low Loot" as it should be, but it'll get there eventually. Based on how test updates are going, I would go as far as to say that it'll be a month or so at max before it gets updated. I'm sure that your PM to him won't go unnoticed and I'm sure he feels the same way.

People have different tastes. Me - I personally like the high loot variant. I just collect / hoard the new items though and when I installed AWOP, my character was pretty much already set for her weapon load-out, so it was really all about the challenge of the new areas. Trust me, I got lost in the Underground for 2 hours first time around haha.

I haven't updated to Test Update 4 myself but I think I may, just so I have more areas.

i have to disagree with the "rewards match the difficulty" aspect of the this argument. in several locations you can get very overpowered gear, at least for low lvls, with minimum risk.

for example, in the infested NCR bunker all you fight are rad scorpions and you can get NCR ranger power armor and an anti-material rifle (with around 50 rounds of ammo). while yes, you do have to fight a boss scorpion to get to the NCR ranger with the armor and rifle, that fight is easily won with dynamite and a caravan shotgun.

Playing with mods like XFO gives ranged combat such an advantage over melee that loot of that quality, being guarded only by creatures, might as well be laying out in the open unguarded. Personally, i just don't grab the stuff added by AWOP that i feel is OP; however, some risk/reward rebalancing would be nice. maybe if i really felt i "earned" those OP items i would use them and not feel like i am cheating.

Totally agree, removed the mod for the same reason. Fresh out of goodsprings I found the best "non power armor" armor, brush gun, lmg, hunting shotgun, etc.

A reward after a tough dungeon should still be awarded, but more like a weapon mod for .357 magnum in goodspring area, or a low tier weapon in good condition, something like that :jammasterjay:

This is a problem that a lot of mods face- giving the player unbalanced items. Of the 'big' quest / content mods: Identity Crisis and War Never Changes stand out. I've yet to play through Tales from the Burning Sands or New Vegas Bounties, but I'm hoping they keep the custom guns balanced.

Alternatively, it's another reason why WMX is so good- to counterbalance the upgrade-able unique weapons, their default stats are lowered. Already amazing weapons tend to have lower weight / increased durability mods to keep them from being too overpowered.

weapons from New Vegas Bounties (if i remember correctly) are pretty well balanced. especially if you use WMX, since they can't be all modded out.

also, you have to kill them to get the gun. which is my only problem with some places in AWOP, since you pick up epic weapons, for that lvl, off corpses guarded by creatures.

I love AWOP, and all it's additions to the game... I just don't use it's weapons  .

overpowered weapons is hardly a reason for uninstalling it IMO.
