World Sauna Championship

Oh wait, he's *link removed*
What the [censored] is wrong with people?
Can anyone explain to me how this seemed like a good idea to get in a room for an extended period of time that boiled the skin off of your body at 230 degrees F?

I am not funny...

Edit: What the hell? Stupid forum censors...

But yeah, that's [censored]. I don't see exactly how someone could kill themselves in a sauna in front of an entire audience without someone realizing that something was wrong.

The stupidity. At what point did the man notice his flesh burning off and think, 'if I just stick it out a little longer..'. :shakehead:

I have a hunch that the link will get removed due to the images... Anyway, that's just dumb as hell. I'm sorry the guy is dead, but seriously.

Yeah, no kidding. That's what I'm saying. Was there no point where he said..."Maybe I shouldn't be slowly cooking my body and dying from it?"
Apparently not.

I'm not an expert on burns or anything, but isn't it a good idea to not being put your hands all over the guy who has burns covering his body? Look at the second picture...

And the Darwin Award goes too...

Warning rant ahead
Spoiler
But seriously What the [censored] people? How the hell does this seem like a good idea? You could slow roast a pig at that temperature. Why would you sit there while you're skin is peeling off. How stupid can a person be to do that? What was the prize for this anyway? I mean damn I've heard some pretty stupid things before but just wow.

end rant.

Same here. Betrayer, you may want to copy the article in the OP so that people can still read it.

And not to mention, what kind of competition is this? Let's see who can withstand incredibly hot temperatures longer. Yeah. Great idea.

That's true if the person is alive, but he's dead.

Not true.

Both of the events finalists -- Russia's Vladimir Ladyzhensky and Finland's Timo Kaukonen -- were rushed to the hospital after collapsing during the competition, in which contestants are made to endure temperatures of 230 degrees Fahrenheit (110 degrees Celsius) for as long as they can. Ladyzhensky later died.

Unless they rolled him out onto the floor again to take some pictures after he died, then this is before he was even treated at the hospital.

They're pretty smart actually. That is a great way to BBQ a human for your cult's yearly picnic while at the same time not arrousing suspicion!

Especially the paramedics <_<

But yeah, agreed. I just want to confirm that I should never, ever get burnt in Finland.

Obviously they started the actual BBQ after he went to the "hospital."

They should just Rochambeau each other next time. It's painful, just as stupid as a "sauna contest", and yet nobody will die.

I'm from Finland and I go sauna almost every day during holidays.
And I've been in 100 celsius sauna, which really is not that bad. But I prefer 80 degress...

Rare accident indeed.

Do you think it might have been the amount of steam they were generating from throwing too much water on the rocks?

Well... if you keep your head almost above the stones while steam goes off... Steam travels to ceiling first where it starts to fall back down, and thats the time when you usually feel the increased heat.
Maybe, I can't say. The size of the sauna, amough of water thrown to stones, actual heat (thermometer might have been broken).
