Worried about a FO3 like world?

Not all Canadians hate snow and Canada is not the only northerly country to be associated with snow. A lot of us only hate having to clear the snow out of our parking spots. :P Plus a lot of picturesque landscapes can be found in Canada too.

See, I thought Oblivion was boring when compared to Morrowind (in terms of scenery), but it was okay. So long as V is as varied as Oblivion I will be content. I would certainly like to see more variety, though.

Also, even in snowy wastes there can be variety. Think back to Bloodmoon. There really was some pretty significant variation in climate, flora, and terrain, and I would like to think that they could top that in 2011.

Bethesda are not fools. Just because they made both Fallout 3 and the Elder Scrolls does not mean that they don't keep those games seperate from one another. They know that Elder Scrolls and Fallout are two different franchises and to worry that Skyrim will be in the style of Fallout 3 in terms of environment (especially when ES has been out longer) is foolish.

So, no, Skyrim will not be a big snow-covered wasteland like Fallout 3. A quick glance at a colored map of Skyrim reveals there is forest and other varied environments in addition to snow. Relax.

Do you think that Skyrim will be a boring wasteland of snow and rock?

Skyrim is not an icy wasteland with just snow and rock.

I liked oblivion for its variation in scenery.

To be honest: it all looked the same to me. Some of it had icy peaks, but other than that there was hardly any variation in the scenery. Pretty yes, varied no.

Will Skyrim fall short in keeping our eyes happy?

Probably not.

I, for one, hope the scenery is boring. I hope they devote most of development time to M'aiq The Liar's dialog.

Regardless of the lore, Bethesda will make Skyrim look how they want it to look (OB should have tought us that). Talking about Skyrim's foliage or lack thereof is pointless until we see some screens.

I'm a little worried that we may get a sparse landscape, especially since it would be easier on the consoles' memory limitations. A bleak landscape = easier to make what's there look good. Some might prefer that, but I honestly want the world to be as lush as possible.

Moreover, when it comes to Fallout world similarities, I REALLY hope we don't get as many invisible walls. The invisible walls in downtown DC and all around New Vegas were infuriating, and did a lot to destroy those otherwise immersive worlds. All those mountians better not mean regions that are only accessible through caves or passes, similar to how you have to constantly use the metros to get around downtown DC. Those kind of game spaces are the polar opposite of fun.

Even Arctic regions thaw in the summer. Even far northern regions have forests. I'm not worried.

God, I hope not. Oblivion was a snorefest after a while when it came to scenery. Morrowind on the other hand was pretty sixy at the time when it came to variation.

But if FO3 and Oblivion are any indication you are going to have a few variations in outdoor terrain and lots of identical caves :P

But that tree. It would be one awesome tree. Totally a final boss area.

The tree is the boss. And once you kill it it bursts into snow, then the whole game is white, but your free to explore! But, there's nothing out there.

I'm glad to see the responses. I worded my post in a way to troll a bit because that's usually how you get actual discussion on forums.
I live in Calgary and our winters svck. I'm not totally worried that Skyrim will look like a barren wasteland, I believe it will be like Northern British Colombia.

unfortunately I never got into morrowind because I hadn't heard about it till months before Oblivion so that's only how long I had played it.
Sure Oblivion was not as varied in landscape but my biggest gripe with these games is color pallet. Oblivion had that wonderful fantasy color pallet that I like.

Sorry for trolling.

I want SNOW, ROCK, ICE, FOREST, NO TREES ABOVE TREE LINE ON MOUNTAINS, FEWER TREES AS YOU GET FURTHER NORTH, AND ICE ON THE OCEAN TO THE NORTH

Why would it be like Fallout 3? Are there nukes in Skyrim?

Anyway, IMO Fallout 3 landscape was amazing, it was pretty unique, varied and with lots of interesting stuff. It wasn't just a wasteland.
You had, the central part a normal wasteland. Down southwest it was very flat. Southeast it had the DC ruins. Northwest it had a lot of moutains and it was less brown and green and more blue-ish and grey.

I loved the detail in it.

To my understanding the coastal north of Skyrim isn't the coldest part (probably due to ocean currents).

Clearly you haven't played any of the previous Elder Scrolls games if you thought that Oblivion even came close to having a variation in scenery. No offense like, I'm just saying, that's all.

And I'm actually quite worried not because it's all going to be just snow, but also because Skyrim itself is quite small compared to the other provinces.

Naa I am sure there will be more then just snow, snow, snow. Maybe Seasons, I live in Michigan. Snow is all over now, but I imagine there will be some sort of change in scenery. Even Alaska has seasons .

If you look at this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:TamrielMap.jpg You can see that most Skyrim is alligned with the North of Morrowind. Meaning that the Climate will probably be rather similar. Not for sure but just an idea.

I fixed it for you. Clearly you haven't played Arena or Daggerfall if you think they had settings more akin to Morrowind's. Oblivion's definitely had more diversity those Arena's and Daggerfall's.

So... Beth is modeling Skyrim based on Norway?

Fallout 3's world felt more full of content to me. Everywhere I turned there was something and that something was usually of quality. My favorite element of TES is the exploration though, I want my long trecks through the wilderness without running into things. I want the next city to seem a distance away and this feel like a province. F3 felt like on city block with a few vacant lots to me. F3 was orginally almost twice the size. I hope Bethesda goes back to the large vast maps akin to Oblivion. I know we have had bigger but I felt that was the sweet spot.
