Worried about a FO3 like world?

Do you think that Skyrim will be a boring wasteland of snow and rock?
I liked oblivion for its variation in scenery. Will Skyrim fall short in keeping our eyes happy?

The TES world was not hit by a nuclear apocalypse so I think it is safe to say that there will be no wasteland.

EDIT: I meant to say that there will be tons of appropriate vegetation and weather effects. Just because there will be snow in the hills does not mean the valleys will be barren.

Yup. I forsee Beth taking the easy route and covering everything with dull white snow, with only a few places that have a fun to explore enviroment.

Boring? Hardly.

Skyrim map, based on lore collected by the Tamriel Rebuilt team...

http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/?image=g/maps/map_mw_sk_east.jpg&p=modding_data/maps

You see three main types of land, hilly forests, open glaciers, and icy wastes.

That might not sound like much varety, but remember that this is Bethesda, they turned Cyrrodil froma "Jungle" to a "Forest."

There's many possibilities.

Vvardenfell was originally purely ashlands and Cyrodiil was originally all jungle. Go play their related games and tell me what you see.

Personally I'm not worried at all... I thought Fallout 3's world was better than Oblivion's to be honest. Despite the fact that it was necessarily a wasteland, they managed to make it fairly interesting and detailed, and it was really worth exploring. Oblivion's world felt more monotonous to me despite being more lush and inviting on the outside. Bethesda is very good at making game worlds and they know where they need to make improvements. I have faith that they will deliver a fantastic world with Skyrim.

I can't wait for them to start showing screenshots, not because of eagerness to see the game, but just so that we don't have 50 "I don't like snow/have no imagination" posts every day anymore.

I'm not saying Skyrim -should- be all snow and rock, but I have a feeling it will be, don't rage at me for being pragmatic.

Just as a heads up in the regards that Skyrim isn't all snowy tundra with reasons that
A). Skyrim isn't all snow and ice and there could always be rectons to the lore which is not really needed because given that-
B ) Lore wise in the war of (1.) Bend'r-Mahk where the Nords waged war on the Red Guards land Hammerfel which is desert even in the northern areas which the red guards are still trying to reclaim the terratory there meaning that Skyrim should have in some places lands comparable to that of a arid landscape. In the same war the Nords also took over some of High Rock's lands which is generally fertile with a mild climate from the Britons increasing Skyrims own territory.

Afterall its not like all of Skyrim is all snow given as we all know that Nords being the conquering berserking vikings that we know and love has been expanding their territory for years. So yes Skyrim won't just be all snow and ice given that lore wise that is not the case further more the designers can always do what they have done for Cyrodiil and adjust the climate conditions there and do make changes as needed to make a interesting game. Pretty much what they done with Morrowind which lore wise was all ashlands when instead the terran was made more varied to avoid a boring landscape.

No, I'm sure the whole map isn't going to just be mass snow.

Yea Bethesda knows what they are doing. Hey who are we to say its just Skyrim the game is probably alot bigger then we think! We very well cant go out a limb and say it wont be since we dont have any gameplay to suggest otherwise.

There is quite a variety of arctic and sub-arctic environments. In addition to open tundra, taiga, forests, and mountains you have frozen estuaries and deltas, perhaps sprinkled with a few pingos; moorland with palsas; hot springs and similar environs; glaciers and related terrain (tarns, cirques, moraines, etc.); the list keeps going on.

Will Bethesda incorporate all of this? Probably not, as much as I'd like to see some pingos they're probably not in the game, but I can't imagine it will all be frozen rocks and trees.

It will be an entire dimension of snow. All the land is snow. There is no sky, only more snow, and you visit people made of snow in their snow houses who forge you a sword made of snow so you can run off and fight snowmonsters.

When you beat the game, they mail you a box of snow as a reward.

It wont be all snow. Bethesda isnt stupid. They know that all snow is not what people are looking for. Even in Skyrim.

How can they mail you a box of snow? Since the box is made out of snow, it will just melt, and then your snow will not be in a box anymore!

The only quest in the game will be a 5000-hour ordeal to find where that white powder has been randomly placed in the snow dimension.

If anything we will see something close to the environment of Solsheim

But we all know Bethesda, anything could happen.

I'm just sick of cold and snow because it's winter in Minnesota. But I'm sure once summer comes around I'll be wishing it was cold and snowy and the idea wont seem so bad :P But, I highly doubt it will ALL be snow, but most of it probably will be, if not super deep snow it will at least be dustings and just overall gray-ish overcast which is depressing for someone who gets winter depression (myself). Adding seasons to the game could avoid this but if they havent already done that it may be too late. But I heard someone around here was going to get an early copy of the Feb game informer or something like that which has Skyrim as the cover story, we will see then.

I'd say I had more fun exploring Fallout 3's wasteland, since there was always something to explore. Oblivion only had forest with boring ruins and caves. If they create even more detailed world than FO3's I'll be happy.

I will snow off this game to my friends, then tell them to snow away while I hunker down in my snowhouse and play the snow game where I snow the snow snow.

I doubt it will look anything like Fallout 3, plus it is known that a large amount of the environment will not be snow covered. Plus on the new engine I bet it will give the look of game something new.
(PS: I am Canadian and I love the snow! )
