Worried about Interplay developing...Don't

Post » Sun Jul 26, 2009 9:13 am

I have seen a lot of people who only played FO3 or NV worrying about gamesas messing with Fallout story. Well I'm here to say don't worry. Here's a little history lesson for you. gamesas started this whole franchise in the 80's with a little known game called Wastelands. It was a wonderful game for the Apple IIc. They have developed a great story back then and they have continued to progress the story. A few things may have changed through the years but the story is essentially the same. There will be more story changes to come (That's just the nature of developing games for different play styles e.g. MMO's). I'm sure the graphics will be up to par with what you have come to expect from FO3 and NV and the story will have a flow and feel of advancing the Fallout Franchise. There will obviously be major obstacles to overcome turning a complex single player game to a MMO however if Blizzard could turn WoW, (a RTS), into a RPG they I firmly believe that gamesas can turn a RGP into a MMORPG. Remember the game isn't even in Alpha testing yet much less Closed or Open Beta. Lets please keep only constructive ideas about what you want to see in the game on the forums. They are hard enough to browse with out having to sift through all the worrying and complaining about how "it's not gonna be like FO3 or NV". Thank you that is all. You may now put your Pip-Boy away.

Aah, I can't wait for them to actually release some real game info (not looking for images but rather what kind of gamestyle it will be :P).

But anyway, good thing you said this because it feels like many who come here thinks that fallout online will inherit many things from f3/NV. Image

I've honestly told so many people about this game only to have them tell me their opinions on Bethesda developing an MMO, yeah, really hurts.

I personally think that it will be as much of a mix of all the fallout's as there can be without infringing on "Intellectual property rights". The play style will not be what anyone is used to with fallout games though being as they have to port it to a MMO style with most things done server side (To deter hacking as much as possible). Nevertheless I believe it will be an amazing game.

I'm actually very happy about the fact that gamesas is going to develop Fallout Online. Nowadays many MMORPG's are beeing released and there are many games that don't last for a long time or even get cancelled. I really trust in gamesas because it's a "traditional company". Fallout Online is going to be awesome. I hope it's going to be an online game which will last for a long time.

Best regards from Germany.

My worry is that it goes the way of Van Buren.

Any Game Studio can turn a masterstroke into something banol.

Case in hand:
Image

Don't get me wrong, I was always a svcker for a redemption/saving her from living Hell eventually. (And thus also ticking the last box to her being a tragic hero) But alas more than could be chewed was bitten off.
EDIT: Ok ok, maybe not banol. Just not as good. Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

Dont worry my friend nobody is saved yet.Do you honestly believe she will remain human for long?

Back on topic:I have my fears about the lore myself.Every time i look at warcraft 3 i feel a small pain with the derection it took. And now it has become worse in wow. However those are not the same ppl who developed the first games. In fallouts case since there are still many ppl of the original staff in the developement of the MMO whatever retcons will happen we can hope to be minimal. -Duke:I am looking for some alien toilet to bag my bricks, whose first?

gamesas is awesome. They make fun games. They made fallout 1 and 2. I think almost anyone who has played ALL fallout games knows the best came from gamesas. (Avelonne made NV awesome... but its still no Fallout 2) I think if anybody is worried about gamesas developing FOOL they have never played any Old fallout games, pobably never played ANY gamesas game....

Most people don't realize what it takes to produce any MMO. Millions of dollars and a dedicated team of developers, coders and story art along with musical elements. When STO came out, it was an utter disapoinment, as a former beta testor I made over 200 suggestions and filed countless bug reports and many of them were ignored. I just happen to be a 45 year old with years of experience and even worked on the Quantum Link project as a external testor and system guide.

The major problem with development is resources. Companies budget a set amount of capitol into a project, and the major issue is overruns which many venture capitol people are not prepaired to enter into adding the extra cash. But in the high stakes MMO market there is not much room for error. gamesas has been around since the C-64 and they know what they are doing, but beta testors are a dime a dozen now, and many don't borther working with the testors. In the old days, many of us worked in trouble shoot.

Too bloody right, I've played many MMO Beta's *AoC cough cough, and I faithfully filled bug reports and glitches, Even down to spelling error's in quests. I think one got fixed... I mean, cmon.. Its not that hard to spell in the first place but not taking 10seconds to open the quest and edit a word.. Serially?!!

I hope the I get into the Closed Beta and it lasts @ least a Month! I'd love to help make this game better!

Back to topic;

WoW wasnt a RTS, War3 was ;) all good!

I'm not scared that gamesas are developing, Im a little worried about Masthead tho.. I like the grapics of Earthrise but Im concerned how a Fallout game would work on such a system.. But I will have faith in gamesass Judgement. If they brought them aboard, I think they trust them enough to do a good job.

Oh and Chris if your reading this Please, oh god please, Impliment Strafing Character Animations!! Looks Dodgey otherwise ;)

What can be hard on the other hand is reading through 3000 bugreports ;) and a spellingerror ain't a high priority.

Too true bikkebakke, too many times have I reported bug problems both currently on produced games and betas (such as the newer WoW one, not a fan) to not have them fixed. I have a relatively new computer model, but all mmos I have played crash within the first three minutes. As long as gamesas can pay attention to the gamebreakers... I think we'll be aight in a wasteland full of death. Edit: gamesas is hella cool Well I guess we're just a couple of problem solvers

Yes but isnt that the whole point of Beta? It's not the only thing either, We figured out how to Duplicate items on Conan as well during beta, but it didnt get fixed until retail! 1.5months in I believe. That was just an example.

Are you Cerial?! no im Kellogs!

It's certainly the point of beta, thankfully I expect gamesas to pull far ahead of Funcom in regards to fixing things, reported or not reported.
