yeah its definitely a selling point... thats in-disputable.
and gameplay IS important, but lets be real here, honestly the whole FPS genre is going stale. the actual gameplay in brink wont be that new, itll be the same thing. im not saying the gameplay wont be good, cause it will, but the gameplay itself wont be special.

i would have to agree with the OP. it is surprisingly low...

as a selling point youd think theyd include more, if it wasnt a selling point then it wouldnt matter, but this is dissapointing.

i like friends my sentiments exaclty

think about this: even if there where 30 choices per clothing piece, there are only 8 or so archetypes for what your face looks like, 6 or so skin tones (all not very different) so count on seeing yourself only in different clothing A LOT. not only that, but also count on seeing yourself in very, very similer clothing.

That's around 27 million.

True - but I just had to insert a punch line because I have kept my cool with all this whiners.
Everyone gets the same level of customization, but do you see other people whine. No.
It's being contented. But humans seem to want more.

To the OP there are 12 different jackets for security, there are also different options for shirts, and if you decide to not wear either different styles for tattoos. Assuming they would keep each one with around 12 different options that would mean about 36 different types of torso wear. The hat and hairstyles also has about 18 different options.

There are a GREAT amount of options for a FPS, maybe it isn't on par with the customization options in an MMO like City of Heroes, but the amount in this game is definitely not weak.

what brink has/had on COD:

-customization: seems half assed.
-team play: do you really expect team play with the ability for lights to run all over the place? with the team split up in different speeds, team play will be minimal.
-smart button: great BUT, read the above. they will contradict one another.

i hate cod, but dont expect brink to take down cod.

after watching the most recent vids of customization i am now thoroughly distressed as to the extremely limited amount of options available. there was about 9 options for headgear? that is weak and about 12 options for torso wear? come on for customization being a HUGE selling point they must have more than this. i am starting to regret my pre-order.....

Not sure if serious...

you could call me a whiner, or you could call me someone who is being realistic. i understand how much selection bias this forum has, as its a brink forum, but im trying to keep a balance.
i know your all high off hype, but calm yourselves, youll probably be back on another forum yelling at some "whiner" after you got bored of brink in a few weeks.

36 is a lot for an FPS. Compared to APB, on the other hand...

Games always offer things, Black Ops offered customization but did anyone scream "LIMITED!"
This isn't an MMO or a game based on the looks of your character.

The main selling point of this game is SMART and teamwork. But then again that is the selling point for me, if you think the customization is a selling point, well sorry that it did not deliver what you wanted. May 18 - APB releases as a free to play, go over there and make your awesome character.
BTW; even some MMOs have very limited customization.

go on brink official page.
go to features.
there are 5 things listed, one over view, one system requirments, and then there are the 3 gimmicks.
-customization (listed first.)
-team play
-smart button

black ops wasnt based on customization, it was based on an already established community that trusted the developers to make the game they wanted, a cookie cutter FPS.
i have contributed to the forums, more than you. typing a hype-based comment isnt contributing to anything but hype, im just weighing the game deciding weather i should pre-order or not, and im not what one would call rich, so i have limited money to spend.

There's this thing called "renting." A lot of people do it to "try before they buy." You should look into it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but your weighing this game on customization? (I'm not saying pre order, because if you don't pre order it why would you go buy the game?)

Keep in mind that though there will be limited choices (and when I say limited choices i mean enough to start to still be varied enough to stand out from other FPS's) to begin with, through leveling and completing the challenges you will unlock an incredible amount of gear to throw on your guy. I think the one thing that was a slight bother was that I won't be able to choose my body type till later levels. As far as gearing up ur character, don't you fret, check out the homepage and take a look at the "character customization" segment http://www.brinkthegame.com/features/customization/

I think we're gonna be ok peoples

I think its important to realize that the cuztomization in Brink is all pre-rendered. This means there wont be as many options as other games, but all of it is going to look good.

The different "tints" for each clothing selection are also more than simple color swaps. They are new skins, using the same basic shape. So its not just choosing between blue and green and gray. Its choosing between the blue default, green highlights, or gray digital camo etc.

So, there are 12 jackets, each with 8-10 different skins. That's around 100 jackets. Same with the other areas. And they aren't stats-based; so you can actually expect to see diversity.

o ok. they just put a whole tab devoted to it on the games homepage.

Well then look at the [censored] tab and you'll see how many combinations there are.
