Worried about the dialogue system

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:49 am

I recall that in Fallout 3, I could have decent conversations with NPCs. For example, asking about the BoS chapter in the Citadel and getting background about it. Sure, it was not the best written but it was a great feature.

However, those responses had more than 4 possible responses and I'm worried that we wouldn't be able to ask NPCs about their backgrounds like in Fallout 3.

Easy. One of the four options is 'Can I ask you about...?' which lead to four options to ask about.

+1

Bioware does this. There are people who seem to insist that it has less dialogue options than the lists but I'm pretty sure that's factually inaccurate. There's no reason the circle can't have just as many/more options for every conversation. I was expecting people to [censored] about paraphrasing actually.

That would be great, because otherwise I would miss conversations like in Fallout 3. :)

There shouldn't be any reason for the new system to restrict options, they could just use nested menus as has been mentioned. I'm more concerned about not knowing exactly what my character will say until he says it.

At least in Fallout 3 I could avoid dialogue options I found stupid or jarring, now it's going to be a constant game of russian roulette :cryvaultboy:

True, Still it will leave 3 options+ ask more on the front then 4 below and your only way to find that the others are is to click on more so this will not simplify things, you probably need an back option too. limiting you to 6 totally. Now many merchants are also quest givers so trade takes one, perhaps other services too.

I kind of like how its in New Vegas who I play now, note that they sometimes have more than 8 options so many you get an scrollbar even if running an UI mod. Noticed this after the dialogue discussion here, this was an simple side quest, you had some ways to resolve quest then details about quest.

One bonus is that asked questions is marked. And this is not only New Vegas, both Fallout 3 and Skyrim has lots of NPC with plenty of dialogue options, note that you could move around in skyrim too, however I think you was locked then the menu comes up.

Now an better system would be to have an another button as an alt button this would give you 8 options who would be enough, in the few options where its to lite you can ad an ask about.

Hopefully something like this is in but don't show up unless relevant.

In short the dialogue system is my primary fear in Fallout 4. Either limited or clunky and probably clunky as hell playing on pc.

freom my own experience from the masseffect trillogie and the wircher 3 i got very bery annoyed after a while

not only are the cutscenes a real pain in the ass , it is that your character tends to go on and on about things you do not even want him to say or in a complete different tone you imagined it

not even mentioning i very much hated the voice in both game and already very much dislike the voice they used here

the mod that turns this off will be the most populair mod ever

And the fact that nested dialogue options are clunky means the developers will likely avoid using it too much, which would mean fewer dialogue options.

But the presence of a voiced protagonist alone already restricts the amount of dialogue options they can include.

While I agree, I think it's gonna take a lot of Modding and hard work to fix this properly. So much so that I don't see realistically this being fixed by mods.
