i am worried

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:19 pm

first I think this is going to be a great game , for what i ve seen and heared , i am sure this game will beat every other game in the genre of open world rpgs this year

except for one thing

the voiced protagonist

i know many of you have reservations but are willing to go along with this new feature

i do not , i am almost certain , from past experience it will break the game for me and i will predict that many of you will eventually dislike or even hate that feature even when now you are saying you are undeccided and willing to have a go with it

it breaks immersion and in the end even kills it , just imagine truing to play this emotionless psychotic maniac but when he speaks you hear this what i call the' stereotypical white american homeboy hero type ' and where is the replaybility in this all do you really want to replay this game with the same character voice ,no matter what character type you want to play

you get tired of it pretty fast

or

the dialogue cutscenes , after 5 hours they get annoying , after 10 hours they become so frustrating and after 15 hours you probably get so angry about these cutscenes that you stop playing, and not even going to mention that you will get annoyed after choosing a dialogue option you character getslocked in a dialogue that goes on for several line saying things you do not want him to say or in a tone you do not want him to, it is what killed the witcher for me and it will probably be the same here

and why the sudden change ? to tell a better story like Todd howard says ? no it doesn t tell the story better , to give a better immersion , ? no ilike i mentioned

does bethesda care ? no by the tme you find out you dislike it you already boughtr the game and played it for several hours

I don't mind that voiced protagonist, it's the dialogue wheel that I'm afraid of.

The voiced protagonist isn't really a problem for me. Don't get me wrong, I get (and enjoy) the element of vocal freedom a mute character provides, but I also play games where all dialogue is voiced without issue. It doesn't affect my role-play, and it doesn't detract from the fun.

Fact of the matter is that people have been asking for a voiced protagonist in Bethesda games for years and years. It's about time they gave it a go. I can almost guarantee you that one of the first mods to hit the scene will be one to remove the voicing from your character if it really bothers you that much. At this point I'd rather they gave it a go and failed than simply stagnate.

Im used to ME and the Wticher series. No issue at all with a voiced protagonist. As with past Fallout games Im used to having limited choices to respond to dialogue so no issue there either.

Damn Im looking forward to this. Not even 4 months of 'I am worried' topics is gonna even dent that.

I'm coming round to the fact my character has a voice now, I don't think it will be that bad.

that is one of the things that worries me

they do need to copy other succesfull game concepts , they have proven that in the past

And when Todd says their team got there inspiration from GTA V that raises more questions not worried that this is a GTA clone just worried about the uniquness of games , overall , if every game starts using the same concepts then why should i buy this or that game

There are mechanics that work well, and others that don't. Now I understand, and completely agree with not wanting every game to be a clone with a different skin but taking inspiration from other successful games isn't always a bad thing; why redesign the wheel?

For me it's about bringing the right mechanics together with correct IP. While Fallout didn't start as a 3D open world FPS/RPG hybrid it certainly seems to be a natural progression, and one I personally like (I understand why some people don't though). I've always enjoyed both genre's and found one or the other lacking certain elements. These new generation Fallout's are the closest anyone has ever come to creating the perfect synergy for me. And if another game has stellar world-design or shooter mechanics why wouldn't you try and use it when designing your own game?

The trick is maintaining enough that still makes your IP unique; lore, stories, or other mechanics. Fallout 4 does this well from what I've seen so far. The world is massive with an attention to detail only matched by GTA or The Witcher, but it's still unique because nothing else is like Fallout's post apocalyptic 50's alternative future. The crafting systems have been overhauled, something that's not unique to Fallout, but the way it works and it's options look impressive and really fit into the whole thing. The list goes on.

Sorry... I want to listen to dialogues. And not to monologues by the NPCs.

None of us have played a Bethesda game like this with a voiced PC so I'm looking forward to something different. It's about time they changed up their formula to be honest, keep it fresh :)

this isn't about reading or listening for me this is about immersion and the abillity to go where ever you want to do whatever you want and to breate a character who ever you want , within the game limits

by using a voiced protagonist they basicly in my opinion took away the third pillar of what a true open world immersive RPG sjould be

try to imagine you want to play a character that lloks and behave as a black gansta/ pimp ( no disrepct nor stereotyping ), then where is your immersion when the only thing you hear is some white american educated male voice , because that is how he sounds like

and how many thimes do you want to replay the game when no matter what character type/ build you make you have this same voice

open world rpg games should be a immersive challenge and not some interactive movie where you can shoot things in it

Am I imagining a slight change in voice on the video when the male protagonist says something like "can I just slide on in here?" during the creation scene? Is it possible the tone or sound of the voice can be adjusted?

Based on experience in other games, I won't mind it, but rather appreciate having something fill that awkward silence.

One thing I don't understand tho... Seemingly lots of people are not necessarily in favour of this feature or just straight up hate it.

If I were bethesda, I'd make it optional, no mods needed.

PS: Though I actually hope that people give the voice character a chance. It might be better than you thought for some playthroughs and just mentally ignorable in others, which has been my experience in other games. :) If people still hate it... then fair enough, then we're just different.

I am looking forward to the new feature. I think that it will work fine for the first play through.

What I am concerned about is the next time I play the same gender. If the voice is the same yet my role play is different then i will absolutely hate it.

I really hope that Beth does give us options to disable it. They seem to think that all gamers fall into the one character 40 hour play through. And we are far from it.

I expect you could go into audio options and lower the voice slider, then turn on subtitles.

Of course, you would hear no spoken dialogue though.

The main thing I wonder is will there still be dialogue options for being a smart ass, sarcastic, menacing, evil? If that is there, I have no problem with it. If it isn't... so much for playing an evil character or a wise ass.

The VAs said in some interview there are 8 character personalities you can choose in the dialog or something like that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRFzF-TN7oc

- The voice actors briefly mentioned that there will be about 8 different types of character personalities based on dialog (good guy, cocky, evil, selfish, etc)

Well as long as it is consistent then I really don't have a problem with a voiced character.

I can live with the voice, I just don't like they way they've done the dialogue wheel. Lots of games have gone that route, but I firmly believe Deus Ex is the only series that does it right, for one simple reason; they show you EXACTLY what the character is going to say, not just a 2-4 word summary. Even Alpha Protocol's method of using a word or two that describes the tone or manner was better than the summaries.

You should watch American Psycho. It'll cure you of the idea that psychopaths with no regard for human life need be necessarily emotionless.
