My Worries (and hopes)

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 1:49 pm

I am very pleased with these answers, I was expecting flaming and the old "Search before you post noob".

As I add-on to the Treyarch comment, that is really true. I feel bad when the EAxis of evil (EA and Activision) takes another soul. CoD after three is just re-skins of the same game. Till Brink is out... Bfbc2 and Starcraft for me ;)

Not all of us are like that :P

Yeah more of the same old junk like cod gets very old very fast and its nice to see something coming that developers thought outside the box for :D

A flamethrower for CQC? [censored]. You'll be dead/on your ass before you can burn them most of the time.

My only worry is game-length. I worry it may be too short for someone who plays only single-player (like how Battlefield/other shooters do).

However, I hope this is offset by the fact that there are different objectives for different classes and two factions and the unpredictable AI. ^_^

I think SplashDamage is pretty determined to make sure that the game is concentrated on teamwork (which I love!) and making the classes balanced as possible. Oh, and SMART, too! :)

BRINK is a pretty big step forward in FPS gaming. COD, well, it's always gonna be a step back. BRINK is what happens when you put actual love into your game and the community by looking out for them.

So true. I love that all the details have been thought out and that they are actually trying to make it for everyone. That idea of giving a bonus objective to the guy who is really svcking so he has a chance to be a hero is awesome. Otherwise some kid looks forward to a game for months on end only, only to have it all ruined as he goes online and gets his butt handed to him every two seconds (not always in one piece...or two pieces, you know what I mean.) I also like that they delayed rather than rushed it. My biggest fears for the game are only the "twenty million shots to drop one guy" thing, and the "I love this so much, do I really need stupid things like food, sleep and companionship?" factor.

But unlike Battlefield, everything is the same. Battlefield has a single player campaign, and a separate MP component. If Battlefield's single player was just like the multiplayer just with bots, that is how Brink is going to be. I don't see how it could be too short, since the replayability is through the roof.

6) Campaign will be like 4-8 hours in total (2-3 hours for each)

i remenber on some of brink's videos a developer guy talking about "breaking the walls between multiplayer and singleplayer" (or something like that)
what happened to that? or is it only me thinking i heard something i didnt?

No you heard correctly. Single player and multiplayer are the same thing. The campaign according to the developers is ten hours long in total. 5 hours for the resistance and 5 for security.

And then you're probably going to be able to play each a few times with all the different classes, weapons and body types to play around with... and that's if you're like me, somebody who's going to stick to SP. The MP aspect of games tends to have a LOT more replayability because the exact same match with the exact same players twice in a row can throw totally opposite results at you... and by the sounds of the AI, SP in Brink will too.

So yeah, there seems to be a good solid chunk of playtime here to keep you busy.

The replayabiltiy of the campaign itself - as in: for offline-singleplayer-gamers - is pretty similar to Call of Duty, not Battlefield. After all, Battlefield is not known for it's singleplayer campaigns.

Main and only worry:

People buying the game for the wrong reasons (blurring the lines + SMART + character movement) and then expecting the gunplay to be the same as most mainstream shooters. I'm sick of these discussions about bullet damage, ironsights, ADS, Snipers and headshots.

Ah, okay. So the single-player and multiplayer maps will be the same, just with bots. Oh, that sounds good, then. ^_^

That's what I am liking, too--the fact that there are different classes (that have different perks, too!) AND different body types with lots of customization (for both character and weapons) AND specific objectives for specific classes.
If the single-player and multiplayer campaign are the same thing (as some people are confirming), then this helps relieve my biggest worry. :)

I loved the Call of Duty games' campaign mode because it feels like it has alot of gameplay content (with a story) for me. (I heard Battlefield campaign is kind of like a big tutorial for multiplayer or something like that....)

No third person mode, but there is a perk where you can go third person when planting/defusing or some other "hands-on" animation
And when disguised you will appear to have the name of the player who's identity you stole.
And since everything unlocked is equal to your starting guns and abilities they'll just be losing out on the fun of unlocking the cool stuff./quote]

3rd person gives an advantage, but I'd rather have the hands, as it looks cool :D

I can just see me talking to someone who I think is in my team, and the wondering why their shooting me in the face lol

They will be the one and the same, though the experiences will vary greatly.

I wonder: will BRINK take after ET:QW by allowing you toggle whether or not bots complete objectives?

Bad Company's campaigns did lack substance, so you could say that they were technically story-oriented tutorials preparing you for multiplayer.

black ops had me without my breath a lot of times during campaing.
bad company 2's campaing was just crapy, the best parts being the begining in ww2 and shooting a chopper with a granade launcher and the ending.
i got sad when the hippie pilot died though.
