My worries...

Post » Thu Aug 18, 2011 4:01 am

The only problem I have with Skyrim is that it will fall on its own expectations, and I haven't really heard of Bethesda as a great developer. They are experienced, I know that, but I have heard them making decent games at best. Only thing is I haven't played any of their games, so my opinion isn't really valid, but this is what I have heard of them.

Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 all ranged in the 8-10/10 for reviews back in their day. Take that as you will. Bethesda Game studios is a fantastic developer. Bethesda Softworks take chances on games that don't always end up so amazing. To me that is a lot better than only publishing guaranteed AAA titles or sequels.

In general if you like open-world sandbox games, you will like the stuff Bethesda Game studios makes.

So does Bioware. Having a lot of GotY doesn't make oneself immune from creating a stinker.

BGS has made 3 games in the past 10 years. I don't think any of them are "stinkers" and expect Skyrim to continue that trend.

if your not sure why not just get daggerfall, morrowind or oblivion. If you like those games thats a good barometer. skyrim will be basically in the same vein. Hopefully combat will be better but for the most part itl be the same basic experience.

Just because you have three good games in a row doesn't mean the 4th is good.

Yeah I was one of the many ignorant who believed this when I excitedly picked up a copy of hunted: the demon's forge when I saw bethesda's logo on the cover

Bioware just svcks now ever since they were bought by EA. Seeing what they did to Dragon Age 2 and ripping the RPG out of Mass Effect. I don't see any Japanification going on with Skyrim so we're good.

Bethesda Softworks hasn't been the name of the dev branch since like 2002. The only games that Bethesda develops in-house nowadays have the Bethesda Game Studios name. They've only released 3 games since 2002: Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. Everything with the Bethesda Softworks name is only published (advertising, marketing, etc.) by them, not developed.

If it goes anything like Oblivion: It will be good, but it will be far worse than we all thought it was going to be.

Yes, that can be true sometimes. But usually, a different developer is working on that title or something like DA II happens.

Also, from what we've heard from critics, they greatly enjoy the game and I don't expect them to change their minds once the game gets released.

The thing is, we haven't seen anything...

An anology for this would be as if we have only seen a peperoni on an entire pizza.

Beth games resonate with a certain audience; they arnt for everyone. They are a great developer in my eyes though. Critical acclaim, audience response and sales would also support this position

"Japanification"? Five Septims says you've never even played a Japanese game. WRPG players... what's up with the widespread sheer ignorance towards Japanese games? Dragon Age II isn't a result of "Japanification". I believe the proper term is "dumbed-down". "Japanfication"... what the hell?

And the few criticisms (from a small portion of those journalists), specifically in combat, didn't diminish their enjoyment one bit. So, I'd say, we have another GOTY on our hands. :tes:
