Worst bugs/ glitches?

Post » Tue Dec 15, 2009 6:50 pm

As we all know, Oblivion has it's share of bugs and glitches. Patch/no patch, they may still pop up outta nowhere. So
what was your absoulute WORST?

Mine- for some odd reason the gray fox's bounty (nocternal's Cowl) was stuck on my character without it on, and i couldn't go to jail.
all i could do was resist arrest and hide for the rest of my life :P

I've never had any unrecoverable glitch.

I use a mod that auto-saves the game every 5 minutes, plus I always make a new save before I do anything important, so if anything goes wrong, I always have a save to go back to. Even with that though, I very rarely have to reload. I don't use exploits and I don't try to do things out of order, and those seem to be the primary causes of glitches.

So the worst I have are a few somewhat predictable CTDs. I try not to save at the Waterfront Shack, since I've found that starting the game up then trying to go out that door often results in a CTD. I also get occasional CTDs coming up the path from the sewer exit to the bridge between the prison and the market district. There's a point at the top, coming around the corner toward the bridge, where the game tries to load something and if there are too many other things going on, it'll CTD.

And that's about it, really....

Sorry.

Yeah, the only probs I have are the occasional CTDs. :(

Or when one of my own mods goes wrong and yellow exclamation points start floating around everywhere.

I haven't had many big glitches apart from the occasional freezing, but the worst was when my game just repeatedly crashed.

After Clavicus Vile has asked you to give him the sword, the game will crash, whether you opt to return it to him or keep it for yourself. The glitch is related to the dog statue that appears in your inventory after you receive the quest, through which the Hound of Clavicus Vile speaks to you and tries to convince you not to complete the quest.

It just seemed that I load a saved game, wherever I was, walk for about 2 seconds, and wherever I was, the game would freeze. But I fixed it by quickly fast travelling from city to city, and the statue went from my inventory.

The design decision bug that annoys me most is that you can become the head of the Mages Guild without ever casting a spell.

In the pre-GOTY version, there is a point where you cannot complete the Fighters' Guild quest line. That burned me up for about 3 months until the GOTY came out.

Don't join that guild then.

I think you missed my point. I don't join guilds that I don't find make sense for my character, it 'bugs' me that you can. My comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek.

Its not a hugely annoying bug, but sometimes after swimming deep in lake rumare, I swim up and loads of patches of land have "vanished" including the aylied ruins on its northen shores.
But fas travel then walking back solves this.

CTDs on exit almost every time.

Until Oblivion's later days where the modding community actually fixed a few bugs (and even one that Bethesda themselves said they couldn't fix AKA the A-bomb glitch), the vampire face aging bug and I've actually run into the A-bomb glitch on one of my earliest characters.
Oh, I also don't care for quest items that can't be removed from your inventory when the related quest has already been completed. Once again, thanks to the modding community...

Or when one of my own mods goes wrong and yellow exclamation points start floating around everywhere.

That's not inherent to Oblivion itself. Most of the time those yellow exclamation things only show up when a mesh is missing or hasn't been installed correctly.

The worst one that I have encountered was doing the Allies for Bruma quest and I encountered a Sigil Stone outside one of the towns that I couldn't pick up to close the Oblivion Gate. Not really a game breaker or anything, but it was rather annoying. Also, the one about the ring in the Fighter's Guild where if you loot the dude's body before you talk to Modryn you can't finish the Fighters Guild, that one svcks too.
