My issue is not with whether or not her accent sounds genuine, it's the fact that there's no reason for her to have it in the first place.

It just doesn't work that way. I've met plenty of people whose parents have strong accents and they have none. Hell, even people who move to the US as children usually wind up losing their accents. Granted, this requires contact with people other than your parents. Find me a second or third generation Irish immigrant that still has a strong accent; you can't, because they don't.

We have no reason to believe that Cait was raised in any sort of isolation. Exposure to people who spoke without the Irish accent would result in a loss of that accent.

But let's say "Sure, she was raised with exposure to nobody except her parents because they were planning to sell her to slavers anyway." It STILL doesn't explain why her PARENTS have strong Irish accents. It's been 200 years since trans-Atlantic travel was feasible for anyone except major regional powers (which is why I don't take much issue with the BoS having and Englishman aboard the Prydwyn though I'd still like to hear about how that happened) so how did her PARENTS cross over to North America and WHY? That's not the sort of journey you make if you're the sort of people that have to sell your daughter to slavers. It just doesn't add up.

Its a game? I do not see Going really deep into it.

I am just saying that Real world boston 15% of the population is Irish right now (thats a lot by the way) Fallout is not real, but I think they included a bit of Irish as a nod. Skinny Malone did not get that way on Calzone's that some good ole corn brahmin and cabbage at work

Also you have no little Italy, or china town, or new Saigon sections in your city. Sort of by your logic the DC guards and all the boston accent's in the game is just as grating. People do tend to talk like those the hang with.

I do get you point but since if you here me say "look out woof" I mean "hey there is a wolf " and I have not lived in the south for 40 years.. heh

Hey 2-Caps, it's been a while. :)

I like Cait, too. She is a terrific fighter and has a good personal quest. Who cares about her accent ... it's part of who she is.

~

Travel with Dogmeat for a while and he will alert you to nearby enemies and treasures, find ammo and weapons, too. To me, he will always be a great companion who's always there for you.

~

I've liked all of the companions I've traveled with to some degree (there's still 2 I need to find). They all have unique qualities and it's commendable that Bethesda has managed to make them all memorable. As for companions getting in your way, just give them a ranged weapon and some ammo and no more problem (it worked for me).

Deacon, MacCready, Nick and Piper are my favorites so far. I give MacCready all my frag grenades and he deals out huge damage. I like Codswroth and Preston but they aren't too helpful in a fight. I actually feel bad for poor Preston because he gets so much hate here. I hope they somehow 'fix' him in an upcoming dlc.

Danse or Preston although Cait is a close third with her obviously fake Irish accent.

Based on firepower and such X6-88 is great. Personality wise. Well if not having a personality is a personality he's perfect. But dang if he calls my PC ma'am one more time I swear I'll shoot him in the face. I suppose if that PC was male he'd be calling me sir all the time. But dang the actual robots have more personality than he does.

I think all the stuffs you said apply more to Preston than X-6. lol

X6 has a personality though, he was trained to be emontionless but he's a sadistic person who loves to torture people and kills Commonwealth, robotic speaking is actually a part of his personality, since it's not the "norm", thus, making it distinguished. No personality would be Preston since he's pretty much bland all around with nothing stands out. I would rather be call sir or madam than "babe".

Her accent is a reason to believe that she was raised if not in isolation then at least among other people who spoke with an Irish accent. She wouldn't be the first. Colin Moriarty had an Irish accent, and according to a terminal entry in Tenpenny Tower arrived in the country as a kid. Where did he arrive from?

Part of the charm of the recent Fallout games is the zany incongruity between the time that's passed since the war (two centuries), and the actual presentation of a world as a place where the bombs dropped only a few years ago. It's a world of living brains suspended in jars, two hundred year old food still in abundance, vault communities that are the result of crazy social experiments. It's a place where normal is a gang of Elvis impersonators (who don't even know Elvis' name) running Freeside.

We accept all of this, but an Irish accent needs to be justified? Really?

I always found it funny that everyone complains about Cait with her fake Irish accent, but no one's complaining about how Curie is still speaking with her voice and accent when she's mind-ported into a Synth body. She should've inherited the voice, accent, and speech patterns of whatever that Synth had.

Perhaps people are distracted by the sixy, no? ;)

Reason is pretty easy, isolate an group for an long time and stuff like accent and other non standard stuff will increase.

An perhaps group on a ship who did a bit better than the Norwegian sailors.

An bunker / vault then an pretty isolated settlement, Caits parents was part of that group even if perhaps not living there then Cait grew up.

It has been kept a secret from us, but I discovered the truth. Preston Garvey is really a transgender Moira Brown, and she, err, ah, he is up to her his old tricks again.

I recently started a new character and began the BoS quests last night, and Danse does come off rather stiff at first, but don't worry, he loosens up a bit as you raise his affinity, like most of the companions do.

Well, I don't know who would be the most popular companion, but it looks like Nick wins the prize for being least objectionable.

I suspect six or seven of the votes were from people who simply don't like companions so voted for all of them.

For me, it's Codsworth. I love the guy, don't get me wrong, but he's the priggiest thing on the planet and got on my nerves after 10 minutes. If he called me "Ma'am" or "Mum" one more time, I was going to shoot him!

How do you use Cait? I'm confused by her. She has a foul mouth and hates that I don't drop acid and act like a klepto all the time. The only thing she seems to like is when I'm sarcastic and pick a lock. Sure she's good with a shotgun, but, then again, so is everybody.

How do you best use her if you aren't a thief and a b****?

Okay. I'll give you that. But his constant complaining! At least Melinda got to do MacReady so she could put up with his complaining, of course the same is true of Cait, Piper and a bunch of others. Hmm... I think my girls a little [censored]ty.

Since I can not have Fahrenheit I do the next best thing and slap a flamer on Cait. (svcker for red hair and pyros) it works really well on her. I noticed melee weapons not really her strong suit (despite how ya meet her). But unarmed (bladed knuckles) can have some really awesome moves for her..... I have been thinking about boxing gloves since this seems what my system likes to give as legendary and i have yet to try em

Interesting. I have a fully tricked out flamer, but I was saving it for Piper. I'll have to see who's better at it. I love Piper with a flame thrower. As long as I have my perk and she can't hurt me, she's a beast!
