Worst Companion

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 1:35 am

Wait, the horrible noise proctor Quinlan makes with his mouth is meant to be an English accent? As an English man, I take offence!

Anyway, From a combat perspective I've voted for MacCready. His default weapon has a terrible ROF and I find that he barely ever hits his mark. It's not too often he gets knocked over before he's done a single point of damage. His personality isn't too bad, but isn't that good either, though I think it's cool that they included him all grown up from FO3 and he gives one of the best companion perks.

Danse is my personal favourite. He seems to give more helpful dialogue than the others, and is probably the best in combat too. On top of that, he gives one of the better perks, has the highest carry weight, and I'm a total svcker for the BOS.

All of them, Thank god for lone wanderer perk. I tend to not like the AI for companions in any game I've played

Surely there are different accents within Great Britain, as there are in the United States? But I can't tell how sarcastic you are right now... :P

Haha, if MacCready is being an awful shot for you, then it makes it hilarious that he's always talking about how GOOD of a shot he is!

I'll agree with your last point, though I also enjoy Nick's company but for other reasons.

Even the NPCs with English accents don't make sense, like Mr. Tenpenny in Fallout 3. According to Fallout Tactics, England is literally gone. It got nuked so hard, that it sank into the sea.

Voted Preston. It's wrong that I voted him considering he's a good companion but he never ends with the quest giving. Could have been done better with a Job Board or something...

I don't consider Preston a companion. He's like this [censored] blackhole enigma that just svcks in anything with character and life and spits it out a complete shell of itself.

Strong is the worst, though. [censored]es and moans too much.

What's good about him? He doesn't even have a personal quest or story attached to his name. Other than the generic tale of the minutemen falling apart. He's entirely bland. You could take drinking buddy with you and have more fun. Sadly that's not an option.

He's a genuinely nice person? He actually cares about somebody outside of his own organization and doesn't just want to kill of anything that's different? He actually wants to help people? He feels terrible about what happened to the Minutemen?

He has a lot of great qualities. He's boring as all get out, but he's a decent shot and not obnoxious, foulmouthed, homicidal, cannablistic, nosey, a synth, an addict, a thief, a robot or an animal.

Could be worse.

Well, I go with Synth Nick over Preston anytime. He's got what counts for a heart in the right place too. And he's actually interesting in a film noir sense of the word.

True. I love Nick. Great guy.

Of course, at the moment, on this playthrough, MacReady is the only companion I've actually used for an extensive period of time (maxed him and boffed him last night). Am abandoning him after the Silver Shroud tonight and going off to Piper. I figure she'll be a great addition for the RR since I want to go ballistic! I'm saving Nick for the Glowing Sea.

I had Danse with me for a very short time, every time he opened his mouth I just wanted to lob a mininuke at him.

A lot of debris you say? Yea thanks, Captain Obvious.

There are actually quite a few accents in Great Britain, but that does not mean that an "English Accent" as portrayed in any of our entertainment media matches any of them.

btw, there is England. There is United Kingdom, There is Great Britain. They are all different.

Now to find out if the VAs who did Cait and Quinlan are just that, actors, or have any sort of tie to the supposed country of origin. I do know of several accent-heavy animated films where the VAs are all of the appropriate background IRL, but then we get media where there are fake accents (and right now I'm only referring to voice acting, not live-action actors in front of a camera).

Presston b/c n*gga won't shut the front door. and is trigger happy. But Strong is dumb AF and hates when I take time scrapping weapons and repairing PA. Nicky V is my favorite since he unlocks terminals for me. LOL

Never heard that. When do they even meet? I mean, outside your main hub?

Yes, indeed. Perhaps surprising for how small of a country England is, really. However, I genuinely didn't think he was meant to be portrayed with an English accent, it just sounded like his VA was trying too hard to give him some kind of air to the character. IMDB says he's English though, so maybe I've just never met anyone from whatever part of England speaks like that.

But yes, I did find it quite ironic that the follower that I found to have the worst performance in combat was the one who gloated about their skills the most.

I have only ever heard her say anything directly to Dogmeat when I switch Dogmeat for her. She will say, "Don't look at me like that, ya dirty mole rat."

In many cases, when you switch companions (if they are in close proximity to each other) you will get some interplay between them.

I liked ALL the quests i got for the companions, i mean, mccready, cait, nick, these are funny and immersive, somewhat, giving a sense over bringing them with you.

But i am still like.... flashed from boone's quest from NV so my opn might be flawed.

Dogmeat really, i was like, since the first 30 mins of gameplay "how he'll try to kill me next? then was: minetrap, done. pulling a whole bunch of ghouls on me: done. ignored that freaking exploding molerat: done."

Then i raged and sent him to tempines bluff or however it is called :D

They all try to kill you in blocking your retreat, trying to push you over cliffs or klll themselves by stepping into your line of fire.

After reading... Yeah Preston was just terrible. I'd say someone thought of him while taking a dump but even that would be more enjoyable than the husk of a broken down guy we have plopped on us. God he's pathetic

If only I could have gone with the gunners. Would make make mamma Murphy get on and back off drugs again till she dies.
