It was between Danse and Preston, but I chose Danse because at least Preston wasn't a jerk to my favorite companions (and his pro BoS attitude got on my nerves).

Strong annoy me to no end.
Not only does he repeat his few lines ad nauseum, he dislikes gameplay. I can't open locks with him around.
A tie between Preston and Danse for me. Danse being stuck in power armor makes him slightly worse. All followers block your view and get in the way. Danse in power armor takes up even more space.
Dogmeat and Strong for me. Strong is decent in combat with a good melee weapon. I just find him annoying.
Dogmeat is just annoying in every single sense. I want to love Dogmeat, but he just drives me crazy.
Preston stopped being so annoying to me after I installed a mod that puts a stop to the endless stream of radiant quests.
Worst to me have to be Strong and MaCready. I don't like either character. In fact, if I were to rank them from best to worst ...
Curie
Piper
Nick
Cait
Codsworth
Dogmeat
Deacon *
John Hancock *
Preston
Danse
X6-88
MaCready
Strong
Deacon and John Hancock are currently sitting dead center because I've never really traveled with them enough to form an opinion. Also, I had to 'fix' curie by locking her default weapon with the console so she wouldn't constantly go into hand to hand.
Which Cait would probably find enjoyable...
My favorite is Curie with the "Better Curie" mod. Yeah, the vanilla Curie was in serious need of attractiveness. The fact that she is as dumb as every other NPC who can't seem to walk through doorways, get out of my way, and have no combat engagement controls whatsoever, or not seem to have any idea about what I am trying to achieve with the junk I am collecting is offset slightly by her french accent, her awesome looks, and her cute non-human naivete - it's okay that she's less than bright, she used to be a robot. All in all, the companions of Fallout 4 are a giant leap backwards from previous titles. At least with Lydia I could tell her to use ranged combat and not to attack before I did. So, if I measure the worst personality wise, all of them. None of them have a clue about me, the game or the point of it. Some though are so annoying that my only response to "such and such can now be your companion" is "not in this lifetime".
Preston. I find Danse to be my favorite character because he has the most tragic backstory out of everyone, and I feel the most for him.
Preston is utterly boring. Doesn't even have a quest attached to his name.
Danse comes in close second. I like to call him Dense. But that's my usual aversion to Paladin characters with their follow your code to the letter attitude.
There's already a mod for it. Just leave the official version by itself, and let people mod away the part they don't like. Even Preston's crap got fixed with mod.
So take McGready. He actually enjoys if you shoot someone. Or Cait. These are pixels giving the impression of being persons. And I wouldn't want it any other way. Your idea seems utterly boring and onedimensional.
They're bring mods to console, so it could be modded eventually.
That verti will crash on the way, so no problem...
Honestly, Preston because of his stupid radiant quest bulldust. Which mong let that through into the finished (hah!) game? Here, have a quest EVERY FIVE MINUTES which will involve you running your ass off to the other side of the map with no way to delegate it or say no.
Strong because of his hatred of lock-picking, computer-terminals and everything except murder and looting. Especially since the game seems to railroad (Eh? Eeeeeeh?) you into being a Wastelander Saint for the most part.
Strong. I feel unless I ate human flesh there is nothing I can do that he is happy with. So screw him, he can find milk on his own.
up next is X6-88. Even with my one character that sided with the Institute, this guy annoyed the heck out of her. Couldn't even complete conversations with him as he kept walking out of them. stupid sandboxing.
"Strong disliked that." "Strong disliked that." "Strong disliked that."
Strong's a good fighter, but more than anyone else, raising your affinity with him is a chore. You can't lockpick, can't hack, and can't pass speech checks without Strong complaining.
