It is a bit poorly documented and solely on political background. You have the deep feeling that the reporter never went to these countries but instead consulted the CIA factbook and other sources.
I live in the 14th worst country and I will have put this country rather in the first 10 worst. Life in Nigeria is much worst than Central African Republic, Guinea, Kenya or Ivory Coast.
As a point of comparison, in the poorly populated (<5 millions inhabitants) Plateau State around Jos (the picture is probably from there), there has been since beginning of this year, more than 1000 deads through community/inter-religious violence. In the so-called civil war in Ivory Coast, a country of 25 millions people, there have been less than 1/2 the number of this deaths for the same period (in fact one month more).
Police is killing without warning as it is said. The GNP/inhab. is 2000$ but 78% of the people are under poverty line while in Ghana, the GNP/inhab. is around 1600$ but only 25% of the people are under poverty line. It says all...
Kenya has political problems but this is by far an easier place to leave than Nigeria.
Let us also be very careful on the legend of the photos. The photos of Central Africa Republic is not representing a village set ablazed as quoted but a bush fire. People, everywhere in subsaharian Africa, are burning the bush in order to cultivate it later. It is a bad practice but this is definetly not a village burning.
I have to agree for Chad, this place
