Worst elder scrolls game

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:03 am

I'd have to say Oblivion (I have played every other TES game but Arena) Since it was just too "generic" medieval fantasy. In other words, it lacked originality, which, Morrowind for example had. I think that Cyrodiil was just pretty boring as a setting and as area. As for Skyrim...whoa, just whoa...love it.

I chose Shivering Isles as expansion, simply because i love both Tribunal and Bloodmoon :)

Wow, it hurt, but I still have to say Oblivion was the worst, if for no other reason than ret-conning the seemingly interesting jungles, lake-countries, wide, sweeping wind-chisled plains, and beautiful river valleys of pre-Oblivion lore Cyrodiil into a boring generic sword and sorcery world. It would have been okay if Cyrodiil was boring according to lore, but it wasn't, and Bethesda missed a great chance to have terrain as varied, if not more varied, than the complex ecosystem of Vvardenfall.

I chose Tribunal as the worst expansion, even though I personally loved it, because it was just too linear, it's main quest didn't "feel" like an Elder Scrolls Quest, more like a well made Fable quest with Elder Scrolls Lore.

This. I remember reading somewhere (some book in Morrowind i recall) that Cyrodiil was was mostly jungle and suff (might have to check that, forgive me if i'm wrong). And it was kinda weird why Bethesda made it so generic after Vvardenfell, which still, to this day, is something truly original and interesting as a gameworld.

Also, aside from eliminating all the jungles of Cyrodiil, notice that the Imperial Palace is utterly absent from the game. While the game refers to White-Gold Tower as "The Imperial Palace," notice that it lacks any sort of quarters for anyone other than Occato. Similarly, lore from Skyrim denotes that during the Altmer's siege of the city, "The Palace was burned and the Tower was captured."

Yes but some people (like me) haven't played the old ones, the majority have only played 3+4+5 or 4+5 only. For me Oblivion was the weak game compared to Morrowind and Skyrim.

None of the travels games or the two adventure games on there? Well I guess I can't really comment on any of those anyways, haven't played any of the travels games.

Why?

I second this.

Stupid poll. All the games are GREAT in their own ways. Even Oblivion is a great game.

Oblivion was arena in proper 3D IMO. Its lore was bashed about the head with a big stick, the guild quests were so contrived and padded out. The mage guild acceptance quests - I mean really?

I liked all the expansions though, I just picked Bloodmoon due to the Werewolves and all the werewolf fanatics on here annoy me :)

If he'd put any of those in there'd be no need for a poll  , as to the main series and expansions i loved them all and can't really pick a worst.

It's hard to say "worst", since all five are good, but I'd have to say Arena. There's no books, and the story is extremely rudimentary and pretty much boils down to the cliche video game plot of "collect pieces of artifact, use to beat bad guy". It's still fun to play, and it was revolutionary in its time, but it's hardly its fault that it ended up surpassed by the following games, that's just how things happen sometimes.

"Worst?" Well, for expansions, that IS a little hard, since all in all, all three are good. In the end, though, I might go with Tribunal, since it feels the most forced/contrived for a lot of it. It's not quite so much that it's BAD, but rather than the other two are simply more superb. Now if only all the flagship games had the same quality as the expansions for them...

Exactly how I felt. It was hard to vote for just one, but Tribunal is the one that sticks out the least.

I never played Arena or Daggerfall so I can't honestly vote. Out of the three I've played, Oblivion was the worst.

Skyrim and Shivering Isles. Haven't played Arena or Daggerfall enough to judge them though.

I hate to say it but Arena. I don't know why but it just felt really boring. And it's not a result of its age either considering I find Daggerfall to be the best of the series.

Yep. That's why it's second in the poll with a full 1/3 of the votes.

Arena as it was obviously the oldest and therefore most dated. Good for its time though,

I voted Tribunal for dlc but that's not to say it was bad. It was still a very good expansion.

Oblivion without a doubt.
Don't even need to give it a second thought.
