Worst thing about Bethesda Games!

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 9:08 pm

Here on the forum doesn't matter either. The people who post here are more likely to be PC gamers by virtue of the fact that they are, for the most part, posting from PCs. An overwhelmingly vast majority of consumers of the TES franchise do not ever come here to discuss anything at all. If you honestly think PC gamers aren't in the minority then quite frankly you're deluded. I shouldn't even have to point to the fact that the game is being developed for the Xbox 360 and ported to PC.

I just googled for a good while, trying to find accurate total sales for Oblivion, Xbox vs PC. I couldn't even find an accurate sale-to-date since 2006. There is no argument here. I must be deluded by the huge amount of "PC" fans on the forum - the forum is the only real judge I have of who's who in the scheme of things.

The people who post here don't necessarily need to be PC gamers, they simply need a PC to post on they're game's community forum. Still, the vast majority of the system-specific posts and topics I see seem to be concerning the PC (and despite this, they're usually a loud group saying "save the PC, we're a minority!")

So by this logic pc users are more loyal fans?

since we actually participate in the game community more so than console friends.

That's the silliest thing I've heard all night. I'm posting from an iPhone right now, that doesn't mean that's the platform I prefer to play games on. And there's a vast difference between a computer that can run Firefox or Chrome and a computer that you can play games on.

The most concrete indication of at least how many PC gamers buy Bethesda's games is FO3.

4.7 million copies shipped on release day and 25% of them were PC versions(Xbox 40% and PS3 35%).

I'd say the fact that Oblivion pissed all over the lore and was bland as hell for the most part is a far greater sin than textures that repeat in a giant first-person sandbox game. Besides, that's what mods are for.

I mean, you don't actually play TES games on a console, do you?

Amen. And all was true and wonderful in the world.

... Also as for pissing over lore go listen to Mankar's speech in Oblivion and try not to rage.

Mankar's speech was INTENDED to piss on the lore because he believed Dagon's lies on the origin of Nirn. The lore is set up in the point of view of the "good" people of Tamriel and Mankar Camoran with his Cult had a different point of view that went against everything that most of the world "knew" was the "fact" of origin. This is no different than a collision of two Religions with two different stories of creation. In order to have a good story, you need conflict... to get good conflict you have to have two very different points of view on the same subject.

This is why I hope (though I'm not holding my breath for it) there are at least two different religious factions that play off of each other in Skyrim. Perhaps the Tribunal Temple of displaced Dunmer conflicting with the local Nord traditions of worshiping Kyne (Kynareth) as the mother of the Nords. Or even better; the conflict between the Imperial Cult and the Nords over their conflicting beliefs on Akatosh [Nordic: Alduin], the chief Deity of the Nine Divines in the Cult but a "...terrible, ravenous dragon who presides over the cycle of existence and devours the universe at intervals...[whose] coming is feared by all pious Nords."[1] Oh, by the way; I hear the Nords are having some dragon troubles in this game... ;)

Love how it went from talking about textures to talking about the lore in Oblivion.

I must say, if Beth went for the one city jungle Cyrodiil approach it could've been a much cleaner game

Doesn't include direct download, no, but I guarantee you it doesn't match that 1.2 million console figure.
